zZounds Gear Experts Say...
Get thick tone from this thin-bodied guitar. It features an Agathis body with a black finish, and it's perfect for any style of music.

1987. The same year the Ibanez RG loudly ascended the throne as the king of the hard rock guitars, the Ibanez S guitar debuted only a little more quietly. The slim Mahogany S was more than just a warm, fat sound in a tight, thin body. The S was a guitar for players who weren't afraid to be different. And those players came from every genre: death metal, fusion, ska, you name it.

It's about time to move up, I've enjoyed this Ibanez so much that I'm looking at another, probably an RG.
Sound
My one gripe is that it seems like some sound gets lost in the shuffle, as if the pickups can't keep up. However, as a beginner it was amazing. Now that I've been playing awhile I've found that I'm pushing it well past what it was intended to do. That said, I can still rock out most of what I want. Get a good amp. On the basic Crate 12W I started with I was immensely frustrated. Now, with a Line 6 Spider II 75w, I'm much happier, and an upgrade guitar-wise is in order soon.
Features
Stays in tune, mostly. Whammy bar is USELESS, as the strings are pulled out of tune very quickly. Pickups need work, but this is a beginner guitar, so no hate there.
Quality
Take basic care of it and it's fine. No calls to service, no service at all needed except string changes, which seem to be more and more often... mostly because I'm getting more and more addicted.
Value
Great for a beginner and good on up to an intermediate player.
Manufacturer Support
Did not have to deal with them.
The Wow Factor
PERFECT beginner guitar and keeps anyone busy. Pick up and wail. Simple, practical, yet attractive aesthetically.
