You're likely to find the Fender Deluxe Active P Bass Special to be one of the most versatile basses in the entire Fender line. That's because it comes equipped with both a Precision Bass pickup in the middle position, and a dual-coil ceramic Noiseless Jazz Bass pickup in the bridge. This hybrid instrument not only gives you access to two totally unique sound sources -- it allows you to blend the output of the pickups to create new and unique combinations. Special, indeed!

P Bass Body, J Bass Neck

This dynamic instrument is made from an alder body cut with the classic P Bass contours. The neck, however, is a maple Jazz Bass design, cut in the modern C-shape profile that has proven consistently to be the smoothest and fastest-playing neck shape on Fender basses. There are 20 stainless steel frets here, all cleanly accessible, even in the highest positions. The neck plays with a comfortable 9.5-inch radius.

Hybrid Pickup Design: Like Two Basses in One

The distinguishing feature of the Fender Deluxe Active P Bass Special is the presence of both P and J Bass pickups. In the middle position you'll find a standard alnico split single-coil Precision Bass pickup, delivering a powerful, singing tone. Below that, in the bridge position, you've got the active dual-coil ceramic Noiseless Jazz Bass pickup with nickel-plated pole pieces and pan-pot switching.

Fender Deluxe Maple P Bass Special

For bassists who dig today's active lifestyle, Fender offers the stylish and thunderous Deluxe Series Active P Bass Special guitar.

This huge-sounding hybrid model features an alder body adorned with a single-ply beveled gold vinyl pickguard and a maple Jazz Bass guitar neck (modern C shape) with a 20-fret, 9.5"-radius maple fingerboard. On board are a standard alnico split single-coil Precision Bass pickup (middle) and a dual-coil ceramic Noiseless(TM) Jazz Bass pickup with nickel-plated pole pieces (bridge) with pan-pot switching.

Controls are master volume, pan, and three-band active EQ with treble boost/cut (+/- 10 db at 8kHz, a shift in the cut frequency, and about a 2dB slope per octave), mid boost/cut (+10dB, -15dB at 500Hz, and a wide band slope) and bass boost/cut (+/- 12db at 40Hz, with a 4dB slope per octave). This bass is amazing for the price. It is my opinion that this bass is better than a lot of basses that are more expensive. Very versatile, can be used for funk, jazz, gospel, country. Funny thing is that I just got this bass yesterday and I'm already singing its praises. Get this bass!
