Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti's Legendary Gear
The Sound of Alter Bridge!
In 2004, Alter Bridge released their debut album One Day Remains, featuring hits such as "Find the Real" and "Open Your Eyes." This album put them on the map, gaining recognition from the rock world as the diverse, hard-hitting hard rock outfit they set out to be. Through the years, the four-piece have established themselves as one of the biggest bands to come out of the early 2000s hard rock scene with their powerfully distinct sound. At the center of that sound are the legendary guitar tones brought to life by Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti -- and in this buying guide, we'll help you harness that sound for yourself!

PRS Myles Kennedy Signature
Throughout his illustrious career with Alter Bridge, Myles Kennedy has wielded an interesting selection of Paul Reed Smith guitars, including the PRS SC 245 and a variety of McCarty models. So, it was only natural that Myles would eventually collaborate with PRS on a signature guitar designed to capture his unique and diverse sonic vision. Inspired by the PRS NF3, Myles' signature guitar features a Telecaster-shaped body -- not something we've seen in his rig rotation previously. Housed in its swamp ash T-shape body are a duo of PRS Narrowfield MK pickups, designed to deliver a unique blend of articulate humbucker and single-coil twang tones -- perfect for a wide variety of genres.
Myles' preference for tone switching was important to the development of his pickups and the electronics. With this desire in mind, PRS created a push-pull configuration: with the tone knob pulled out, switching to pickup position one rolls back the tone to about 50%. By switching to the fifth position, you'll disengage the tone knob, making it incredibly easy to quickly switch between tones during the heat of a song.
This incredible axe also features a custom Myles Kennedy neck profile, blending the thickness of "C" shaped neck with the smooth playability of a slim "D" shaped neck. The result: a comfortable playing experience, where you can dig in as aggressively as you need, regardless of your playing style.

PRS SE A60E Angeles Acoustic-Electric
Myles has used a variety of acoustic guitars in the studio and on the stage, but with Alter Bridge, he's relied heavily on the PRS SE Angeles. If you're looking for an affordable way to achieve his acoustic sound, we would recommend the PRS SE A60E Angeles -- an acoustic-electric designed to sound exceptional whether you're playing through a PA or around a campfire.
The SE A60E houses a Sitka spruce top with ziricote back and sides -- a visually striking combination of premium tonewoods resulting in an articulate, balanced tonal character. When you're ready to take that incredible tone to the stage, the Fishman Sonitone pickup built into the SE A60E has you covered. This undersaddle pickup system is designed to capture and project the guitar's natural tone, making it a reliable stage companion night after night. Additionally, the Fishman Sonitone system features easy to access volume and tone controls, making it a breeze to shape your sound while performing. Last but certainly not least is the SE Angeles' wide-thin neck profile -- similar to the neck shapes found on PRS electric guitars, adapted for comfortable acoustic playability.

Boss RV-6 Digital Reverb Pedal
Myles isn't known to use many effects with Alter Bridge, so he keeps a pretty modest pedalboard. Still, he has a number of notable effects that you can use in your own rig to capture his sound. For decades, Myles has used the Boss RV-6 as his go-to digital reverb pedal, and we recommend it if you are looking to mimic his approach to adding subtle but effective color to your tone.
The Boss RV-6 features four classic reverb settings such as room, hall, plate and spring, along with a fifth "modulate" setting for a head-spinning swirl texture. Expanding the utility of the RV-6 are the delay and shimmer modes, which can be stacked with reverb for an even wider variety of textures. Looking for reverb that reacts to your playing style? Engage the dynamic setting, and the RV-6 will adjust the depth of the reverb effect to the attack you place on each note, giving you another way to control the texture added to your tone.

PRS Mark Tremonti 10-Top
If you're looking to capture Mark Tremonti's visual and sonic vision as he intended it without compromise, then look no further than the PRS Mark Tremonti 10-Top. In the early days of Mark's career, PRS sent him a handful of McCarty's to take to the studio and on the road, and he fell in love with it. As his career developed, he began putting together ideas for what his ideal guitar would be, and eventually, he would collaborate with PRS to bring that guitar to life. This Tremonti 10-top is Mark's dream guitar, with every design decision reflecting that dream.
Gracing the hood of this guitar is a carved figured maple 10-Top finished with a charcoal contour burst, resulting in a mesmerizing visual feast. This Tremonti signature also features a mahogany back and neck paired with a rosewood fretboard -- resulting in warm, midrange-focused tones. Further shaping the tonal characteristics are the pair of Tremonti signature pickups, built to Mark's specifications and demands to deliver powerful, lows, mids, and highs to cover the full spectrum of rock and metal. PRS Mark Tremonti MT 100
Though Mark is known for his legendary work in the hard rock and metal genres, his particular approach to songwriting requires a versatile suite of tones. When collaborating with PRS to create his signature amp, Mark sought to create an amp that would house everything he would want in one box without leaving anything behind. In collaboration with legendary PRS amp builder Doug Sewell, Mark was able to achieve that with the monstrous MT 100.
Before the MT 100, there was the MT 15, the lunchbox version of what would eventually become the MT 100. Through the success of the MT 15, PRS was able to build a bigger version that more thoroughly captured Mark's amp vision. The MT 100 is loaded with three channels of crystalline cleans, punchy gain, and searing overdrive that cover an impressively wide spectrum of tones. Each of the MT 100's channels are powered by eight 12AX7 preamp tubes, helping to add girth and depth to each tone. Housed inside the MT 100 are a quartet of 6L6 power tubes, making this 100-watt amp a crushingly powerful stage weapon. Looking to add effects into the mix? The MT 100 features an onboard effects loop, so you can use your effects without muddying any of your tone.

Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer Reissue Overdrive Pedal
With the emphasis Mark places on getting his tone from his guitars and amps, you would think that pedals don't play much of a role. Like Myles, Mark also keeps a pretty modest and straightforward pedalboard, but there's one addition to Mark's board that makes a big difference in big moments: his hand-wired TS808HW Tube Screamer. As a more accessible alternative, we recommend checking out the TS808 Tube Screamer Reissue.
Ibanez's TS808 Tube Screamer Reissue houses the same JRC4558D chip found in Mark's hand-wired TS808HW, making this a great alternative for those looking to achieve his sound as closely as possible. Pair the TS808 with the MT 15 or MT 100 to kick their already crushing suite of gain tones into a gear that you may or may not be able to control!
