Roland's SuperNATURAL Piano engine and Ivory Feel keyboard with Escapement deliver the sound and feel of a real piano -- minus the weight and tuning costs.

Roland blurs the lines between digital and acoustic worlds with the FP-7F Digital Piano. With its Ivory Feel keyboard with Escapement and SuperNATURAL sound engine, it's built to replicate the world's finest concert grands, while high-tech features like an onboard looper and harmony engine make playing the FP-7F more fun than any acoustic piano. Whether you're a professional pianist that requires uncompromising performance from your practice instrument, or a family that wants a truly inspiring digital piano for your home, the Roland FP-7F delivers the goods.

Escape Digital Limitations

Try pressing an acoustic piano key as softly and slowly as you can, and you'll feel a slight bump of resistance about two-thirds of the way down. This is the "point of sound." Consider what's happening inside the piano: a damper lifts to allow the strings to vibrate freely, and a hammer momentarily hits the strings and immediately falls away so as not to interfere with the vibration. The mechanism by which that hammer strikes the strings once and immediately "escapes" (even if the pianist continues to hold the key down) is called the "escapement." It's as if the key "throws" the hammer, and the hammer bounces off the strings. The subtle weight of the escapement is present to some degree on all acoustic pianos, and it's even possible to press a key so softly and slowly that the note doesn't sound at all. Most digital pianos don't bother to replicate this when playing very softly, and without read more this tactile feedback, a pianist will need to make a mental adjustment when going back to a real piano. Clearly, the escapement mechanism is part of what gives acoustic pianos their distinctive "feel" -- and it's this characteristic that Roland has faithfully reproduced in the FP-7F, along with a PHA III Ivory Feel-S keyboard that recreates the natural texture and absorbent surface of actual ivory and ebony keys. It's simply the closest you can come to the feel of a real live piano in a digital instrument.

SuperNATURAL Piano Engine

All the realistic touch in the world can't recreate the sensation of playing a world-class piano if your keyboard's onboard sounds aren't up to the task. Think of the astounding dynamic range possible on an acoustic grand piano. Ordinary sample-based keyboards fail to fully replicate this range because they rely on crossfading between a few samples that cannot change their sonic character once they are triggered, resulting in a choppy dynamic response. The typical digital piano audibly climbs four "steps" as you play with increasing velocity, while sustained notes repeat a loop unnaturally. Roland's SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine is a breakthrough in sampling technology, allowing seamless variation in tone from pianissimo to fortissimo, and smooth decay as notes linger and decay naturally without looping. With this cutting-edge technology, the FP-7F Digital Piano achieves the unique sound and expressiveness formerly only possible on a traditional acoustic piano. Whether you're used to playing on a digital keyboard or on an acoustic grand, you'll be delighted by the way the Roland FP-7F responds to your touch, thanks to the SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine.

Sing Along: Built-in Harmony Engine

Roland has cooked up a real treat here for the pianist that likes to sing: a microphone input built right into the back of the FP-7F. Plug in any microphone with a 1/4" jack and accompany yourself through the twin 12-watt stereo speakers. How about some backing vocals? Activate the onboard harmony engine derived from the stage-tested BOSS VE-20 Vocal Processor effects pedal, and choose Duet, Trio, or Quartet mode, adding up to three voices to your own! This high-tech harmony generator doesn't just listen to your voice -- it can detect which chord you play on the keyboard in real time and even interpret chord information from the built-in Session Partner patterns. Don't be shy -- bust out those Eagles covers or your favorite Beach Boys tune, and amaze yourself with a wash of vocal harmony. Or fire up one of the 80 built-in rhythm patterns, and hand over the mic to the vocalist in your family for some "live band karaoke" fun, with you on the piano. You can even turn the harmony voices on and off as you play, with Roland's optional RPU-3 three-pedal unit.

Make Tracks: Onboard Looper

For all its sleek, elegant good looks, the Roland FP-7F sure knows how to pack a high-tech punch. There's a handy onboard looper that lets you overdub layers of performances with the FP-7F's built-in metronome, using any of 342 tones or eight drum sets. Save 30,000 notes as a standard MIDI file in the keyboard's internal memory or on a USB thumb drive -- accessible right on the front panel. Try laying down a chord progression and improvising over the top of it, or build a lush arrangement one instrument at a time. Plug in a microphone to loop your own voice, and save the results as CD-quality WAV files on your thumb drive. You can even use the FP-7F's Audio Key feature to instantly trigger your recorded tracks.

- Mic input and harmony effect
- Available in black (FP-7F-BK) and white (FP-7F-WH) finishes

SuperNATURAL(r) Piano

The Roland FP-7F's crown jewel is its SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine. With SuperNATURAL Piano technology, three essential elements are dramatically improved: velocity response, note decay, and key range behavior. Where previous sample-based technology created coarse "stair-step" gaps in velocity and key range, and unnatural looping in note decay, SuperNATURAL Piano technology bridges the gaps with perfectly smooth and natural three-dimensional sound and response.

PHA III Ivory Feel-S Keyboard

The Roland FP-7F features Roland's PHA III Ivory Feel-S keyboard with Escapement. With the same progressive hammer action and escapement as the top-line PHA III, it offers unmatched expression and performance authenticity, capable of transforming the most subtle finger nuances into sound. It also provides incredibly fast key-repetition action. The surface of each white key replicates the unique appearance and comfortable feel of real ivory keys. The keys are constructed of a one-piece proprietary material that provides excellent moisture absorbency and a premium all white appearance around the tops and sides of the keys.

Onboard Looper

Expand your musical creativity with the onboard Looper, which is fully optimized for keyboard players. You can instantly create overdubbed loops using the sounds of the Roland FP-7F itself and/or audio from the mic input (see below). For instant musical adrenaline, tap into the built-in library of rhythm patterns; each pattern has a matching intro and ending, great for songwriters and performers. The Looper can be easily operated with front-panel buttons, while the optional RPU-3 triple-pedal unit offers advanced foot control. Additionally, loops you create can be saved as WAV files to USB flash media and used with the FP-7F's Audio Key playback feature.

Mic Input / Harmony FX

The Roland FP-7F has a built-in mic input for sing-along fun. Plug in a microphone (optional) and experience the powerful built-in harmony engine derived from BOSS' VE-20 Vocal Performer. You can choose from three types of vocal harmony: Duet (your voice plus one harmony voice), Trio (your voice plus two voices), and Quartet (your voice plus three voices). The harmony engine can detect which chord you play on the keyboard in real time to create its harmony voices; it can also detect chord information from the built-in Session Partner patterns and create matching harmony. The optional Roland RPU-3 Pedal Unit provides hands-free control, letting you turn harmony voices on/off with your feet.

I liked a lot; I’m not regret of buying it! I was considering The Yamaha P-155 or the Kawai MP6 but I chose this one!
Sound
By itself sounds good, I have to find the way to give the same sound when it pass thru the mixer, if you are looking for just piano tone, this one is the correct, super natural piano tone is awesome!
Features
The main features of this piano is just that, Piano, it has just few, comparing it against a synthesizer, I’d rather it has more brass options instead of jazz scat and male and female aahs, I don’t like the bass and guitar tones a lot, as I said above if You are interested just in piano tone this one is right, very good piano tone and very good touch response, I compared the keys at a local music store and I liked more than Yamaha graded hammer action standard (MM8)and I dare to say that I found better action than the Motif G8 (at least for me personal preference) these keys aren’t the same as the RD 700 NX this are PHA III-S. This piano is heavy, sturdy and looks great!
Ease of Use
If you are used to operate keyboards, you don’t even have to read the manual.
Quality
It´s a Roland.
Value
Is expensive, but it worth, I’m thinking about to get the Roland KSC44 Stand , RPU-3 triple-pedal unit and a case with wheels, (because is heavy), that means another $700.00 may be with that money I would have bought the RD 700 NX, but it doesn’t matter I’m happy with this!
Manufacturer Support
I have not used it yet.
The Wow Factor
Looks great!
