Kali Audio IN-8 V2 3-Way 8" Powered Studio Monitor

Hear your mixes with a clear, accurate stereo image thanks to the 3-way IN-8's coaxial mid/high drivers -- now with lower self-noise in Kali's V2 update.

Kali Audio's IN-8 V2 is a 3-way studio monitor with an 8-inch woofer and a 4-Inch midrange with a coaxial 1-inch tweeter. The unique architecture of the midrange driver and tweeter eliminates off-axis lobing, giving the IN-8 an incredibly accurate, lifelike stereo image. The strength of the stereo image, combined with the clarity of the speakers overall, make it extremely easy to build a complete, detailed picture of your mix. Every aspect of your mix is presented with clarity and accuracy, allowing you to dial in precisely the sound you want. The IN-8 V2 is also wall and ceiling mountable, for easy placement and surround sound applications.

This version of the IN-8 is part of Kali's 2nd Wave of loudspeakers. An updated amplifier platform allows for 12 dB less self noise, while increasing max SPL by 3 dB. The tuning has been refined for smoother HF response, and the boundary EQs have been updated to reflect common real-world use cases. Physical improvements include lighter transducer cones for better transient response and upgraded cabinet construction for greater reliability.

The IN-8 features an 8-inch woofer, a 4-inch mid-range driver, and a 1-inch soft dome tweeter. The mid-range driver and the tweeter are coincident, meaning that they share the same acoustic center. You might have heard the terms "coaxial" or "concentric" to describe this arrangement. Those terms are technically correct as well.

Because of the coincident placement of the mid-range and tweeter, and the read more crossover of the woofer to the mid-range (330 Hz,) the IN-8 is an acoustic point source. This gives it an ideal directivity characteristic for a studio monitor. You will be able to hear a very lifelike stereo image, with details placed clearly and consistently. Off-axis lobing that is unavoidable in a 2-way system is virtually eliminated with the IN-8.

Substantial work was done to optimize the mid-range driver not only for its own acoustic performance, but also for its role as the waveguide for the tweeter. The shape is very precise to allow for controlled directivity at mid range to tweeter crossover, ensuring accurate summing both on- and off-axis. Excursion on the midrange is limited to less than 1mm peak to peak, so that the oscillation of the mid-range does not have a negative effect on the tweeter.

On top of this, the IN-8 incorporates all of the benefits of Kali's Lone Pine series monitors. These include optimized woofers for powerful, clean bass, a front-firing port tube, and boundary compensation EQs.

The IN-8 V2 is wall and ceiling mountable using the SM-KP8 adapter plate and SM-UM1 Universal Speaker Mount from Triad-Orbit. This allows you to put the IN-8 directly where you need it in your studio, allowing you to use IN-8s as wall- or ceiling-mounting speakers for immersive mixing formats like Atmos.

After many years of mixing with 2 way monitors, I was blown away at the accurate representation of my mixes and commercial music mixes. The minute I played back my own mixes, I heard the trouble from my old monitors lack there of. They respond to EQ changes with ease. The bass is dead on accurate. You'll never fight to get a bass track to sit in the mix with a Kali studio monitor. The mids and tweeter are clear, and the overall crossover network is about flawless. These monitors are TUNED! The only dip switch I had to set was for monitor on stand near a wall. After that, it solved my slight bass shy test mix. Say goodbye to ear fatigue. You hear everything at moderate 70-75db mixing volumes. It's like they rewrote the Fletcher Munson curve with these things lol. They are pretty quiet on standby. I never owned the first generation and can't say if version 2 is quieter. They aren't as powerful as some other studio monitors. They don't need to be. You can hear all the punch and frequencies at low volume and don't need to crank these things. I mix hard rock and metal. The minute I started to mix, I knew these things weren't no joke. No more second guessing and doing a remix after you playback on the car stereo or home stereo in the real world. What you hear from these things is what you get. They'll save you time and money. They're just as good, if not better, than studio monitors that run into the thousands for a pair. Great job Kali!
