Jet City Jettenuator Amp Attenuator Direct box

This attenuator goes between your amp head (up to 100 watts) and cab, soaking up extra power for that cranked-up tone at low levels -- and doubles as a DI.

Jet City's Jettenuator 100 watt attenuator has some useful features, making it an excellent tool for both live and recording. Amp inputs at 4-, 8-, and 16-ohms makes Jettenuator more versatile than other attenuators. The continuous attenuation control lets you set the volume right where you want it. Also included is a line-level output, with its own level control. Use this to connect Jettenuator to an external power amplifier, or effects processors in professional applications.

Rounding out the feature set is our MicSim output. This balanced, XLR output simulates a microphone in front of a speaker, so you can attenuate your amp and send a great-sounding feed to the house, or your recording mixer. It's like a direct box for your cranked-up tube amp.

I recently picked up a used Mesa Boogie DC-5 which if you didn't know is friggin' loud as heck. It goes from 2 directly to 8 so not much "in home/bedroom" playing levels. I wanted to use as much pre-amp juice as possible and push the power section just a bit but not sacrifice my ears and have my wife complaining that the neighbors are going to call the police. Sound typical? Then you need to get this little box? This thing has tamed the volume beast & still gives me monster tone. I don't hear any loss in sustain or tone and the compression seems normal. Simple setup and once you dial in your amp you can control the master volume from the huge JC unit. I guess the only slight drawback is that the unit doesn't have a bypass switch or level. If you plug it in, it's on and cutting the volume even wide open. I'm not sure if's a bad thing but it exists so be aware. If you want 100% amp volume! don't plug it in. Overall, I'm glad I can play my amp while pushing it and not depend on headphones or a POD unit to get nice crunchy thick tone.
