Feature:
It comes with a power adapter, shoulder strap and an excellent bag made exclusively for it - all great. I only wish they included at least one Compact Flash card so people could use it right out of the box.
I haven't had an opportunity to test the video sync and timecode input, but all other things work just as expected. Built-in limiter and low cut are just a switch away when needed, and the PS/2 keyboard port is a nice addition.
Quality:
I really wish it was made out of metal, but I guess that would probably add to its weight and reduce the portability, which is very important in this case :)
The hard plastic is OK, looks solid, doesn't scratch that easily, and the finish is not too glossy. Buttons on the front panel could be just a tad bigger. Display is excellent. Input/output connectors are high quality, no doubt there.
Value:
For me, this was the single best investment ever. Even without the timecode/video inputs, it's a great piece of hardware, and definitely worth the money.
Desirability:
It's good that classic tascam DAT look. It's hot :)
Sound:
Excellent sound quality, creates no noise of its own, tested with SE Electronics SE3ST, Shure SM57 and Prologue 14L mics and also using line inputs.
I used it to record various ambient and natural sounds, as well as vocals.
Ease of Use:
The software (1.04) is quick, interface intuitive, the project setup/recording/retaking/deleting process is quick and painless. I have no complaints, it does what it's supposed to do perfect. Manual is OK, but you probably won't even need to look into it.
Overall:
I don't think I'll need a new recorder anytime soon, not just for field recording, but for everything else.
