Feature:
I am not a fan of the effects built in, as they seem to lower the volume and do not produce well. Our guitarists have an array of pedals so this was not needed as well. My only real complaint is that there is no back up light to the lcd. This makes it almost impossible to navigate unless I am recording with either a direct light or in the daytime, which as most musicians know, is not our calling hour...lol.

Quality:
I have never had a problem that I did not create myself in so far as recording. It holds up well and the fact that I can burn directly is a nice feature.

Value:
I think the price is reasonable, but you have to spend time to learn to use it. It is very functional and practical, but it is important to learn about it.

Desirability:
Small, compact and user friendly.

Sound:
The sound reproduction remains pretty solid. I have read the other reviews, but pound for pound, I think it should be understood that it may have only two leads to record into, but the tracks can be 'bounced' to other tracks, allowing multiple recordability. Also, when our band plays, we can lead the two inputs into a simple P.A. head for full band recording.

Ease of Use:
I will give the ease of use a nine. It is truly plug and play. A new user can spend just ten minutes in the manual and start recording. Tascam is known for it's ease of use and this unit is not an exeption.

Support:
I have never needed to speak with a Tascam rep to resolve any issues.

Overall:
I have recently purchased a Peavy 24 channel board that also has a burner, so the learning continues! But the Tascam was a nice intro.

Feature:
I liked the effects and the ability to bounce tracks. Lots of control over the recording.

Quality:
Hard to say how it will hold up. I wanted to drive over it with a truck after I lost an hour's worth of live recording because it failed to record, but the owner wouldn't let me. Seem pretty sturdy, though.

Value:
Decent, when it works.

Desirability:
If I hadn't used one, I might have considered buying one because of its features. After using it, it lost a LOT of its sex-appeal.

Sound:
The recording quality is very good -- when it records!

Ease of Use:
For simple recordings it SEEMS pretty easy. The frustrating thing about it, though, is that there were several times when everything looked good -- meters were jumping, overload lights were blinking occasionally, the channel record lights were lit and the headphone sound was beautiful -- but on playback there was NOTHING THERE!!!! Also simple things like mastering and transfer to a computer are buried under many layers of menus.

Support:
The manual is not too bad, but it jumps around and it's hard to find out how to do simple things. Tech support basically just shrugged.

Overall:
It sounds good and I suppose if you live with it for a while you'll get used to the menus and controls, but it's too easy to get burned with a non-recording. If the lights are on and the meters are happy, it should be recording. If it's not ready, there should be some indication of that.

Feature:
I think the features on this particular machine were not thought out well. I know they went for this one knob one function thing but all you end up with is a large machine that doesn't have what some of the others have that combined functions to save room for mor accessories. First of all a machine that cost this much should be able to record more than 2 tracks at once for goodness sake. I could do that with my old Boss BR-532 and it was half this size and easier to use. And what is the big deal with XLR inputs? The first DP-01 didn't even have any! The screen is small but usable and the usb connection is good too. This machine should have been set up to at least record 4 tracks at once.

Quality:
The worst aspects of this product is the limitation of 2 track recording and the cheesy plastic housing. If I am going to be out this much $$ I could at least get something that looks professional. (Steel or Aluminum Maybe?) The positives is that the cost is affordable for most musicians and the quality of sound is good and the Data exchange is good. Also it is not too difficult to learn.

Value:
I think it is somewhat worth the price if you can find a realy good deal on one and if you are not concerned about the lack of recording tracks.

Desirability:
I don't care for the cosmetics..like I said you should get more than Plastic. Where did Tascam get the idea for the flare out on the sides of this thing. Why not make it look like a real piece of studio equipment?

Sound:
I have used this machine quite a bit because a friend of mine ended up with one and couldn't figure out how to use it. That's no real reflection on the machine or manual..he is not computer savvy at all. So I basically took the manal and went throught it enough to show him how to record multiple channels and mix them down to the stereo track and to burn a cd. The manual wasn't great but none of them are. I didn't have to use the company techs though.

Ease of Use:
Therre is always a learning curve. I actually found the corve to be less on this than the Yamaha machine that I now own. The yamaha was a little more difficult to learn but is in a class of it's own that tascam can only dream about being in. The sounds were good and the interface was good. USB 2.0 is a good convienient way to exchange data.

Support:
I haven't had to deal with them

Overall:
I wouldn't buy it...like I said I use a Yamaha AW1600...I just help a friend use it. There are way too many other hard disc sysytems out there with way more features. Just do some good research. They all work pretty good. Might as well get the most for your money.

Quality:
I sent this back before I gave up. I spent hours mixing down my band's practice recording (about 3 hours) only to have it crash/freeze on me in the middle. 3 separate times. I thought it was an issue with my unit, so I returned it and got a new one. Nope, same problem, 3 hour practice session editing gone!

Value:
Don't buy it!

Sound:
Sound is great, crashed on me 3 times though.

Support:
great, they sent me a refund. Thanks!
