"Samson Db500a - Beastly, Amazing, Priceless!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Well its been about 6 years now. I'm starting to wonder when I should have a backup. I'm gonna keep going with Samson..I can't believe they discontinued these!!
Sound
These speakers are extremely powerful. At the highest levels...after being pushed for hours upon hours they sound so very crisp. I've gotten so many complements from all different people as far as the sound goes.
Quality
This speaker is a tank. A beast. Super hard outer casing made of some sort of super strong plastic. Extremely scratch resistant. I've been using these speakers since 2006. Its now almost 2011..they looks pretty damn good considering I never got the cases for them.
Value
I'd pay any price for these speakers. Never had 1 issue with them.
Manufacturer Support
I love on Long Island and Samson is out east a bit. I had a warranty blew the tweeters due to a surge I believe...made an appointment, dropped em off and they services em good as new.
The Wow Factor
I like the look. Dark grey cabinets with the cool blue power lights on them. Looks very nice in the dark.

Sound
Very rich and rubust. Nice tight full bass and high end that doesn't ripp your head off.
Features
I've run these babies HARD and they barely got warm.

I have had absolutley NO issues with these.
Value
Best bang for the buck that I've found.
Manufacturer Support
I have needed to find out. These things are Rockin' every gig.
The Wow Factor
So much so that I bought a pair.

"MACKIES LOST TO SAMSON"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I would never buy any other speaker if these broke but I would buy a Samson sub to supplment it.
Sound
The bass from these speakers is amazing. Just two easily filled a large hall with clear sounding music. The 15" woofer sounds much better than the 12" on the Mackie SRM450 but the tweeter on the Mackie sounds more clear. Plays music the best but a very live music speaker. It has tons of monting options to so its very versatile.
Features
Has a lot of great features including a High and Low control on the back plus a mic inut so you can set it up like a karoke system without a mixer.
Ease of Use
The speaker takes a lot of fiddling to make it sound really good but if you know what your doing it's not bad. They are heavy and pretty hard to get onto a stand by yourself.
Quality
The cabinets are pretty tough and can take a lot of abuse but if they scratch they scratcha dn it looks very bad.
Value
Best bang for the buck. Cheaper and more powerful than the Mackie SRM450's and sonds clearer ar high volume.
Manufacturer Support
I never delat with them but many people say that they are slow but helpful.
The Wow Factor
I wouldn't call it sexy, their speakers but the blue power LED looks very cool in the dark.

"Exellent value for mobile d.j. who wants the most bang for the buck."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Just bought recently, but very satisfied so far.Wish I would have checked them out sooner.
Sound
I have listened to the jbls and the mackies, and would highly recommend the samsons. These are the only powered speakers that will provide enough bass power without having to invest in subs.If I would have known that they sounded this good I would have bought them to start with.Could have saved alot of wear and tear on my back from lugging around heavy amps and floorstanding speakers.Exellent bang for the buck!
Features
Has everything you will need, even a two band equalizer for the bass and treble. Also a limiter switch is useful to avoid clipping.
Quality
Weight could be an issue. Its a little tricky getting on a stand by yourself.Seems very well built, but you will have to be careful moving around, because to my knowledge there is not a speaker bag or case that will fit it.I would not let that keep you from buying. The payoff is in the sound.
Value
Better value than the jbls or the mackies. Better price.
Manufacturer Support
Have not had to use fortunately.
The Wow Factor
Looks good up on a stand.Blue powered light a nice effect.

"Suckage meter is off the charts - what cheap junk these are."

Overall: 1 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I've had these for 4 years. One cab smoked about 2 years ago and I have it repaired under warranty. After buying a Bose L1 I let these sit for the past 2 years. Yesterday I got them out for an outdoor DJ gig. Admittedly, line voltage was low at the venue but my first cab smoked within 2 minutes. Thinking it was just the faulty cab that'd been repaired before I continued on. 30 minutes later, here comes smoke out of the 2nd unit. These aren't loud at all and if you drive them over half-way up you're begging for a breakdown. During the middle of this meltdown I put up a Peavey cab, driven by a 200-watt P.A. head, next to the remaining Samson. The so-called 500-watt Samson cab couldn't come close to the sound or volume. Bottom line, these thing are junk. If you're doing serious gigs, or even hope to do serious gigs, you WILL embarrass yourself with them and blow a wad of cash in the process. BTW, I ended up plugging in the L1 the rest of the day and it kicked major tail. Never again, Samson.................

"Totally satisfied"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
We bought a pair several years ago for family weddings and other functions. I have been to many other weddings since then and have not heard any DJ's equipment that compares to these. The sound is crisp, clear and has adequate bass. We have had many people comment on how good they sound. Plenty of speaker for a large wedding.

"Samson db500a Excellent alternative to keyboard amps."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
I rent a db500a for large venue gigs to use as a keyboard amp. The results are exceptional. A nice full, rich sound with warm bass and smooth mids. Large pads sound great. Compared to a Mackie SRM450, the Samson blew it away in terms of sounds quality. The only downside is the size and 31lbs.
Quality
Very strudy design. This amp is a beat. I would not be afraid to gig regularly with it.
Value
That is an unbelieveable price considering the quality.
