"Great amp for playing at home!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This amp has a nice clean tone, and naturally is perfect for blues, classic rock, and perhaps jazz. The gain isn't too heavy, so for harder rock and metal, a overdrive pedal will be needed. But this amp handles pedals very well, so it is easy to find the tone you are looking for for your style. In my opinion this amp is better than the other amps at this price range in terms of sound and features. Pros: This amp sounded better to me than the Epiphone VJ or Fender Champ 600. And on top of that, the Peavey Valveking Royal 8 has a master volume so that you can play it quietly without cranking it too loud, a gain control and tone control. Also a headphone output. Most other 5watt tube amps lack these features. Cons: The tone control could be a bit more receptive, I admit, but it still helps. I'm planning to buy an equalizer pedal to get a wider variety of sounds. Some people complained about the small stock speaker, and yes it could be better, but it gets the job done for now.
