If you are utilizing the "Insert" connections of your mixer, you either take up a group of connection on you patchbay (8 chan = 16 positions) PLUS insert cables, OR you buy this unit! Rack mount? Sure, just buy the NEUTRIK NYS-SPP-L patchbay and substitute these modules in place of the std ones supplied. Presto, 8 positions consumed, 16 std left for other uses. The input is a TRS from the INSERT jack, and you get tip TS on the top jack, and ring (return) on the lower. That is ALL with std cables!

Despite the title given by Neutrik, this is only a insert split block so that you can plug 1/4" cables into you inserts.

Unfortunately, there is no normalling if nothing is plugged into the return side, which means you always have to patch across from send to return if you don't need any inserts.

It's TRS in the rear for inserts, with UNBALANCED TS sends (black) and UNBALANCED TS returns (red) on the front. There is NO provision for normalling, so you'll have to patch every time. It would be good for sending 8 signals to tape and returning those signals post deck while tracking, but not much else.
I use it for amplifier to speaker patching in a studio, and it's nice for that, but if you do that, beef up the circuit boards with speaker wire to handle the higher current.
