Sound:
This score is a combination of the three sounds on the pedal. The good is that this pedal, neither, adds noise, nor causes signal loss.
The primary function of this pedal is the wah. The Morley wah sweep is different from traditional potted pedals. The throw of the treadle is shorter and the mid-sweet-spot is a less defined hump. The high is bright without being brittle. The low is tight, but almost too tight.
The secondary function is being a volume pedal. The volume has a quiet sweep. But, with the treadle throw being short, it doesn't taper as gradually as I would like.
Finally, the distortion. This is a fine sounding analog distortion. It's no TS-9. But, it is fine.
In my pedal board are also the following effects: chorus, delay, a digital pitch-shifter (used primarily as an octave pedal), a Roto-vibe, compressor, tube distortion (12ax7 inside), and a Bixonix Expandora which I use as a sparkly lead boost.
The real benefit for me of the Morley PDW II is that it adds three effects to my board without taking up any more real estate.
To improve the functionality of this pedal, I would increase the mid-hump-boost of the wah, increase the throw of the treadle to correspondingly make the decrease of the volume more gradual.
Feature:
The most useful feature of this product is that it is three pedals in one.
Ease of Use:
It is very easy to figure out the uses of this pedal.
Quality:
This pedal feels rock solid. On my board it replaces a similar product from another manufacturer which did not withstand more than seven years of use.
Value:
I do think that this pedal gives plenty of bang for the price paid.
Manufacturer Support:
I have not yet had the need or opportunity to work directly with Morley.
The Wow Factor:
Nothing sexy about a black pedal with chrome push-button switches on either side.
I think a wah pedal should have a vocal sound as many potted wah pedals do. This pedal has an almost electronic sound.
Overall:
See my comments above. This works for the variety of cover music I play. It is solid and, generally sounds good. It would get higher marks from me if:
1) The treadle had a broader sweep;
2) The wah had a more vocal sound with a more pronounced mid range; and
3) The volume had a more gradual decrease.
