7 out of 10Feature:
Great all-around multi-effect pedal. Almost every parameter required can be well tweaked. Easy PC connectivity (included USB cable) and tone backup. Ease of recording and tweaking thru computer.
Quality:
Perfectly build and flawless. Very durable. Excellent, although it is not portable (due to its heaviness and its massive dimension). Not recommended for mobility. Pedal does not operate effectively. Tune guitars perfectly.
Value:
This effect board is quite expensive. But to refer to its wide variety of model range, it may worth it. Firmware is updatable, but no supporting software included in the box (download after registering the device online, yet it is big: 95 Mb ++). Extra models available for extra fee (how disappointing; Line 6 can just include all of them, like POD X3). Updates are extremely rare. (Almost never)
Desirability:
The device is enclosed in sexy black metal and emboidered with minimal knobs and button. Easily operatable. A various range of 'usable' models. But one will need to do a lot of tweaking to create a great tone. Fortunately, presets are downloadable via the Custom Tone site.
Sound:
Modulations, Synths and Pitch effects are worse than ever. On the other hand, amp models and its delays / reverbations have realistic feel. Line 6 designed those amp model better than ever.
Ease of Use:
To get a good tone, one must be ready to sit in front of a PC with PODxt connected and tweak for an hour or more. Rather difficult to tweak directly. But after getting a good tone setting, its just plug-and-play.
Support:
Very good support. Line 6 reply emails very quick. (in a week or so)
Overall:
Want to buy this? Think again. It's just too big. Floor POD Plus may be an option (but no USB connectivity). Or if you don't mind for a big pedalboard, Digitech GNX 3000 may be your alternative (People said that modulations and pitch by Digitech are better sounding). Regardless of them, I think that amp models from Line 6 are just good. (IF you know how to tweak)

10 out of 10Feature:
Too many to list.
Quality:
Well made. Solid and well designed.
Value:
Best for the money as best as I can tell.
Desirability:
I've seen Nashville pro's using these things on stage. The Pod is definitely the iPod of guitar amp emulators.
Sound:
You know all about the features of the Pod XT Live. Here is a little info about my experience with how to power it...
With the Line 6 Pod XT, I've found that the quality of the tone you'll get is very dependent on the amp and speaker(s) you run the signal into. Certain amplification setups seam to "fit" my Pod XT Live better than others.
I tried out the Pod XT Live at a large music store before I bought it. They had it running into a $2,500 Bose L1 PA system. It sounded horrible - thin and distant. Granted, it could have been poorly set up but I was terribly disappointed. That said, I bought one anyway because of the rave reviews. I was much happier when I got it home - eventually.
First, I ran my American Fat Strat Deluxe into the Pod XT and Pod into the front of my 30w Peavey Delta Blues 1x15. When I ran the signal into the regular guitar-in jack, it sounded like *#($%@. The sound of the Pod through the three 12AX7's was shrill and thin and unsatisfying. No way was this going to work. However, when I ran the signal into the FX return instead, it sounded like a different amp. The four EL84's really warmed up the tone and brought out the unique character of the amp itself. A little tweaking of the Pod's output signal and of the amps EQ and the tone was, in my personal opinion, excellent. Some of the channels, such as the Roland Jazz Chorus and the Marshall JCM800, were particularly full. The presence was huge and the volume was astounding.
The Pod sounded very sweet running through an Epiphone Valve Jr. head into a small open-back cab with a Celestion Vintage 8. With the volume at about 11 o'clock the little Junior pumps out gobs of attitude. It's super sensitive.
I tried running the Pod through a small (130w) PA system. AHHHHHHH - it could have cut glass.
At my church I ran the Pod through the house PA (5,000 watts plus several Mackie powered 15's) and used in-ear monitors. The quality was very good (comparable to miking my amp) but didn't quit have the character and presence of running directly into the amp.
The combination that I eventually settled on for live performance is a stereo setup with the Delta Blues for main stage volume and the Valve Jr./Celestion on the second channel to open up the sound and bring out some of the stereo effects. I would think that a matching pair of DBs would sound better but that's the best I can do for now.
Even though the Pod is an amp modeler, I treat it more like a multi-effects processor and look to the amp(s) for character and ultimate sound quality.
YMMV
Ease of Use:
There is a learning curve but the controls are relatively intuitive. To get the most out of your Pod you really need to dig into the manual.
Support:
By support, I refer to the software support. As soon as you get your Pod, download the software and register. Then you can download tons of patches. It adds a whole new dimension to the experience.
Overall:
I love it.

10 out of 10Feature:
Again, this is far more than an effects pedal. It can make your guitar sound like pretty much anything. The LCD screen is small but the controls are intuitive and you don't ever really need to use them because you can plug it into the laptop and change all the settings in GearBox. If you spend enough time with this thing it is just crazy how much you can do with it. I bought all the extra amp models so now it makes even more sounds. You could spend years messing around with this thing and finding different tones, but there's actually lots of other users doing that already so I like to download their presets and try them out myself. It's nice.
Buying this thing will make you want a Variax guitar. I got it to play into a PA but wanted more raw volume so I bought a combo amp with tubes and it rules. Buying one of these things and not taking advantage of the huge amount of information on the line 6 website and forums would be a shame - otherwise you would not know that you need to configure your presets playing around 85dB in order to compensate for Fletcher-Munson curves for LIVE, duh.
Actually I didn't know about Fletcher-Munson curves before I bought this - now I do! I am serious when I say using this thing will not only improve your music but also educate you about sound, if you so wish. Otherwise it's a great effects pedal.
Quality:
awesome product. great quality. I had to calibrate the pedal but otherwise no problems whatsoever.
Value:
absolutely the best thing ever. This is waaaay more than an effects pedal. You can use either the xt live or the gearbox plugin in conjunction with the xt live on all of your tracks in a mix to give them that amped sound. It is just amazing. If lost, broken, or stolen I would just buy another one.
Desirability:
technical marvel. If you want crazy tripped out effects this might not be for you, but if you want to sound like all sorts of different guitar sounds, be able to go from a chunky blues to metal to surf guitar and country all in the same song this is your thing. Great for recording - it pretty much replaces the amp, mic, mixer, and audio interface for $400. Also comes in rack-mount form (xt pro) with connectable pedal board for those so inclined.
Sound:
Amazing. The loaded-in presets sound like garbage, in my opinion, but this thing is infinitely configurable and far more than just an effects pedal. If you can't make this thing sound like you want, there are hundreds of presets in GearBox and thousands of user-submitted tones online do it for you. I use it with a tube amp and record directly into the computer and both sound fantastic. This is used by a number of popular bands, who seem to love using it when performing live.
You play this into the clean channel of your amp, by the way.
Ease of Use:
Incredibly easy to use. It would probably be well-received at all if the factory presets were better. Being integrated with the computer makes both recording and everyday use much easier - you don't have to bend over and touch the knobs if you don't want to!
I had to calibrate the volume/wah pedal to make it switch over properly - out of the box this isn't super awesome fantastic, but after reading the instruction manual and taking an hour to do some setup and load new presets you will have the best guitar pedal and/or recording interface on the planet.
Support:
I bought one of these used and purchased amp models for it - a part was missing from the used pedal so I returned it to the store without disabling the models and got a new one - turns out the model packs are linked to your device, not the computer, and you are supposed to disable them before transferring between devices. I called line 6 and they sorted it out pretty quickly, gave me new serials for the new pedal.
An amazing thing about the model packs is you can purchase, install, and then "return" them to line 6 within 30 days and get all your money back. Unheard of!
Overall:
I'll probably use this thing until it breaks and buy another one. I don't think I'll be using it all the time as I own a tube amp and some pedals already - it's still fun to practice with those - but for recording and LIVE this is all I need.

See above - what else can I say - comes with everything you need. Some of the downloadable expansion packs are useful but not required. I bought the bass expansion pack - best $100 I ever spent. Now I can go from an Ampeg SVT to an SWR with a touch of footswitch.
Quality:
As I said - built like a tank.
Value:
Nuff said.
Desirability:
I have erotic dreams of my POD - just kidding... but I love the thing. It has improved my guitar playing immensely and allows me to concentrate on making music rather than twiddling dials on stomp boxes every time I play a different song.
Sound:
The sounds are awesome, technology is awesome and its built like a tank. Do you want to plunk down TONS of bucks for many stomp boxes that are a pain to reconfigure or something that is all in one unit, programmable and outperforms all of them? Plus, its so easy to play on stage its silly. Its your choice - but I bought mine 2 years ago and I can't imagine life without it. I also bought the bass expansion pack as I'm a bass player of 28 years as well as a guitarist. How about the electronics? I'm an electrical engineer by trade specializing in digital signal processing. I'm amazed at how Line 6 does what they do. Save your hard earned bucks - get a POD and go direct into the board - no amp required. Plus you can interface this thing with darn near any digital audio workstation out there, (except protools m-audio) so you can record your axe without an extra interface, (usb to your computer). I know, I sound like I work for Line 6 - not so - I'm just very happy with my purchase.
Ease of Use:
The modeling on this amp is great. The guys at Line 6 are tone Nazis - you can dial pretty much anything you want in. The clean presets out of the box were great but I had to tweak the distortion presets a little for my liking. One negative - the LCD display needs to be bigger - it can be hard to read on a smoky stage.
Support:
I bought the 2 year service plan and haven't needed it. Thats the sign of a great product.
Overall:
My POD will follow me into the after life. Honestly, unless something comes along that completely blows it away, I won't be looking for anything for awhile. Now its time to switch gears and look at the rest of my equipment - sound reinforcement, mics, etc.

Quality:
Solid metal body with very durable plastic foot switches. The wah and volium pedal is metal too, with a non-slip rubber pad.
Value:
$400.00 before the 2 $50.00 downloads is a bit high in my opinion. The price would be more appealing if you didn't have to download the most sought after sounds for an extra $100.00, they should have been included in the original price. I have to say though, after the $100.00 downloads, there is no $500.00 pedal out there that will beat it!

8 out of 10Feature:
FANTASTIC features... there are so many options you can select from, and with each of those options you can set it down to the most exact measurement you want. One feature I would be real quick to brag about is the expression/wah pedal - it's not like the real deal. It's a very sensitive wah pedal, and requires some control. Maybe the problem is that I am used to a Cry Baby and there's not much like that. For being built-in it is a great expression pedal though. Line 6 now offers several various wah models that you can select to use for the patches you have in this system, which is pretty cool.
Quality:
This is a SOLID, RUGGED piece of equipment. Everything down to the knobs are hardcore. I would take it anywhere to gig with it, and not be worried about something breaking or coming off. No loose parts or anything to make you cautious. Never had a problem to date with something not working or glitching from time to time, everything's solid.
Value:
Absolutely - this product is MORE THAN WORTH its selling price. I don't see why Line 6 would not charge $800 for this unit; I would buy it all over again even if it was that much, because the value of the system is worth it. No better unit for this price, and I've played the GNX workstations and Boss GT ones too.
Desirability:
Oh yeah - when I first saw the photos of it I wanted it - it's got classic, rugged looks. The black and chrome is clean and sharp, and is was an absolute desirability factor for me in this purchase. I've gotten nothing but great comments on the way it looks, and I think it's easily the best looking unit. Look at the DigiTech or Boss units, and see if they are better looking - I think not. DigiTech's for example, looks like a plastic colored toy - not too professional in my opinion. This POD is a rocker in it's style.
Sound:
Extremely impressive sounds. I've owned this for about 8 months, and have switched over to it from my Line 6 Spider II amp. So much more flexibility and options with this unit!! I can create/recreate just about any tone I want, through what's already on it, and what can be downloaded for free at the Line 6 Custom Tone website. Sounds fantastic live, which is what I mainly use it for. Using the Studio Direct output mode for private jamming, or studio playing is phenomenal.
I use a Les Paul Standard, and it rocks. Primary playing setting is in our church, where we use a awesome EAW setup and crank it.
Ease of Use:
EXTREMELY EASY INTERFACE. This is my first floor/pedalboard type system, and yet it is extremely easy to navigate and set all your settings. Very nice controls, and once you are familiar with it you will have no problem tweaking it to what you want to hear. I would say there is no learning curve involved; overall fantastic interface.
Support:
I contacted Line 6 by phone twice, and never got to speak to someone and no one ever called me back in response to a message I left in the support queue. So I would not rate live support highly at all; however this is just my experience.
I love their online support/downloads/tools though. Anyone with a good PC that you can connect your PODxt Live to will absolutely love the options that are available with this unit, it's just incredible. Everything from backups to downloadable tones to firmware updates.
Overall:
I do not plan on seeking after any other unit. This one has all I need and more, and I plan on mastering it and then using Line 6's expansive add-on options to increase the sounds, and capabilities. For example, the POD comes with the FX Junkie Pack (tone model pack), and you can expand it with other packs, like Collector Classics, etc. I'll do this as time progresses.
This product meets or exceeds my musical goals, for sure. Highly recommend it to a potential buyer out there - YOU WILL NOT BE UNHAPPY!
