"Very nice practice tool!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Will keep this as long as I play as it meets my needs. Maybe a stomp box or pedal effect would replace it. I would definitely buy a replacement if it breaks out of warranty or is lost or stolen.
Sound
For practice and familiarization with effects, this is great. Lots of sound variants, tones are very close to the sound you hear on recordings by artists like Hendrix.
Features
Just a USB cable and CD software. The software is the key to the usefulness of this device as the tones and tools such as metronome and tuner are part of the software interface.
Ease of Use
Very intuitive interface. Easy to change and modify tones. Lends itself to experimentation. Sounds great over headphones and I assume external speakers.
Quality
Looks very well made - haven't owned and used it long enough to test durability. It looks solid.
Value
For a practice tool, this is great as long as you have a computer to support it. It WILL NOT work without a computer so you are tied to either you desktop or laptop and you must also have an internet connection for the services. Nevertheless, it fulfills my current requirement for a fun little practice tool.
Manufacturer Support
Have not had need to contact the company. Some problems with connecting to the services that interact with the Guitarport. There is a user discussion forum that is helpful.
The Wow Factor
I like the compactness and the layout of input and output jacks and volume control

"Buy this before you buy your next foot pedal, amp, or stack."

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
it's a toy guys, I doubt I'll be going the cheap route if I decided to replace/upgrade it, at least now, I'll have a better idea as to what I'll be happy with when I get a monster system based upon what I've been able to produce sound wise with this.
Sound
I just picked it up today, I'm very leary about picking up guitar amps, footpedals and especially the lame excuse amp modlers digital pedal systems., I can say this, it's basically the same as the higher end "not highest" of effects do dads you are going to pick up, a hell of alot cheaper then shelling out for 10 million pedals, the amp simulator I still consider more of an effect/equalizer then the real mccoy but I consider most amps and guitars to be pretty much crap no matter how much you are paying so I'm not an easy sell, the depth and distortion as to what you are used to just isn't any where near what you'd want it to be if you were trying to place this aside the real deal, but after tweaking it a bit I've been able to set up decent, playable, enjoyable tone that's got my mind realing knowing the shere volume of permutations that can be put in place and I haven't even plugged in any outside sources, ie. there will be things between my guitar and this little interface.
Features
well... you started with a foot pedal design, might as well finish the job 6, I've found it to be a total pain in the ass having to mouse click, drag, mod, as I go along, I'm thinking it would be very nice to have at least 3 programmable foot activated presets built into it.
Quality
if it lasts a year, I'll be happy, if not, expect a negative review, any cardboard box that can do the job is fine with me, so looks are pointless.
Value
before you go out and buy a ton of foot pedals and play the amp upgrade game, get this thing, it not only lets you play around with all of them be it only on your pc, and only close, it's going to save you alot of money in the long run. Once you are happy with your sound, then you can realisticly buy only what you want to use for the real world ie. real foot pedals, amps, effects. etc.
The Wow Factor
tons of new toys I'll be playing with forever, of course.

"Best $$ I ever spent on equipment. Sadly, if it was not on sale, I would never have tried it. Dont make that mistake!!!!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
As long as the current level of dedication from Line6 is maintained, the usefulness is endless. I would be likely to buy an upgrade, or additional item with added features.
Sound
Ever want to have all the classic sounds at your fingertips? Cant quite get that VH sound you want? Get this! You will love it.
Features
Incredible versatility! Great sounds. Little limited due to copyright issues though. But its the best tool I have seen for guitar. I would like to see direct recording without buying add on, and print functions.
Quality
Looks great. Built sturdy. Input jacks are well protected in the rear.
Value
for 99 bucks, this will replace quite a but of equipment, cut practice and learning time, and can be used as amp model with a PA. With the optional $79 a year website membership, you will eliminate the need to buy TAB books.
Manufacturer Support
Have not needed
The Wow Factor
I never put much in looks of equipment, if the equipment works as or better than I need or expect, I use it.

Line 6 Guitar Port Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
For a measly $100 who could complain. It is the best money I've spent on a piece of gear lately. Paying with my Dimarzio equipped Dean I find the sounds to be acurate enough to play the Online downloads. The Floyd and Sabbath songs sound great with Super Distortion bridge pickup. I use my Tone Pro neck pickup for Clapton and SRV. It is a fun toy and I totally enjoy using it. It got me playing a lot more than I had been lately.

They will never get my business again.
Sound
I bought the B-stock and it's totally a crap. The previous review about the B-stock is very true. It's a shame they sell it. I will talk to BBB and see.

"Guitar port is a musical revolution, for real."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
A little more work from line-6 and I will order this thing for my friends and family to play on. If line-6 keeps upgrading the software, it will be new and useful for years. Easily the best $100 I have spent on anything musical ever. No kidding.
Sound
This thing sounds great, and it does a very close imitation of everything I have tried to make it do, but don't be fooled, it is not a 100% replacement for a tube amp sound. It is a 98% replacement, and a 100% effects-processor. I will comment at various times on the tube-amp sound in the following. Sadly, it does not do a "real acoustic" sound (as far as I can tell) unlike the other "variax" line-6 products, which sound pretty darned good. :(
Features
Guitarport can do more to your your guitar sound ("tones" as line-6 calls them) than piles of pedals and racks of very expensive effects processors. Albeit, it needs your expensive computer, which you probably don't want to lug to gigs or rehersals, do you? It integrated perfectly into my PC, leaving the soundcard and other peripherals unaffected, and they are all happily working together. Note: I jacked up the guitar-port quality (there is a simple control panel), the USB signal, and reduced the latency. This is supposed to make it sound all the better. I couldn't notice a difference in sound, but my machine (2.6Ghz, 512Mb SDRAM) is barely sweating the guitar-port's max system load (it's always between 10%-15%). If you have a PC already, this thing is great and works better than you might imagine and BETTER than advertised. If you don't have a guitar-port (and have a newish computer) you are a self-righteous snob living in a tube-amp fairy-tale, or are really poor and need to get a better job. It's only $99!
Quality
Well, it's not perfect, in fact it's fake. Sometimes you can actually tell, most of the time you can't, unless you are the tube-amp-fairy. It's really good fake. Everyone should get one. If you really, really want a "real tone" only play acoustic. Honest purists wouldn't play an electric guitar at all. Ancient amplified guitars, vintage vibrato and spring reverb are just as fake as guitar port. In fact they sound worse. You purist loosers must flee before my acoustical logic! Put it this way boys: if you see a girl looking just the way you like, but you think parts might be fake, do you stop looking? Would you forgive her if she confesses to you? If it's good, it's good!
Value
This is the best thing I have seen in music at all, and will be for years to come. It helps the open-minded guitarist select and listen to himself playing through almost every conceivable tone. You can learn what sounds (I mean "tones") you want and like, and guitar port delivers them in a VERY simple and flexible package. It can help a true artist find their "voice" in the privacy of their own room, without mockery from tube-amp purists OR complaints from upstairs neighbors (yes, there is a built-in headphone jack).
Manufacturer Support
You must pay for the guitar-port "online" experience. This REQUIRES a credit-card. Most teens don't have one, thus the "online" crap is a greedy way to make steady cash ($8/month or $96/ year) for line-6. Most of all, I have heard that it is near-impossible to cancel the service once you start paying for it. The actual guitar-port tool is great, why do they mess it up with a crooked online business? A little hint: just buy the thing, ignore the online pay - BUT go the the "wrong" section : the one for pod-xt "tone" downloads. These work fine on my guitarport. You are going to need to tweak the sounds once you get them, anyways. There are 1000's of online guitar tabs and tips online to help you learn, so ignore the lessons, unless you like getting trapped in a credit-card loop and paying $100/year forever.
The Wow Factor
The actual Guitar Port box is wierd looking and keeps getting underfoot if it is on the floor, and falling off the amp or table. Bad physical design. Plus: candy apple red is sooo wanna be cool. It really good as a device, but a flop as a fashion accessory. SO WHAT!
