Excluding the HR824s, the active studio monitors I auditioned by Event, Behringer, Mackie (HR624), Alesis, M-Audio and the smaller models in the same V series by KRK sounded like toys when compared to the V8s. These KRKs have the smoothest, richest mids I've heard in this price range, and coupled with the sub I already owned, the setup sounds phenomenal; a substantial, clear sound with a wide, deep soundstage. It makes critical listening and mixing on them very fun. I really chose these over the HR824s because of this fun factor; both monitors will do the job well, but Which makes the overall experience of listening to music more enjoyable? For me, it was the V8s. So far, the mixes on which I've used the V8s are translating quite well. I should also add that the KRKs are impressive to look at, if you need to wow clients. Of course there are better monitors out there, but for the price, these are hard to beat.
