Sound
i went IN to the store with this on a list of monitors i researched, the behringer, the m-audio's, etc...and let me just say you can do all the research in the world but until you stand in front of any monitor, the point is moot. these were the ones i chose...after minutes. they were that good and that obvious. and quite simply, in the 2 days i've owned them, my mixes have changed overnight and i'm FINALLY getting true and amazing results. the sounds is honest, flat, accurate, and yet still full and rounded with zero fatigue. i can't recommend these more. period.
Features
simple sound/eq and volume controls make this a pretty versatile monitor.
Quality
sleek. the yellow and rounded edges are super cool.
Value

"size DOESNT matter..............."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
for my needs, they will do fine for me. i was skeptical about the 5" woofers, and getting enough bass response, but they ARE the bomb! being on a budget, i couldnt justify the RP6 or RP8. i am very happy with my purchase!
Sound
i give it a "9", because i'm sure there is better out there. this is my first set of monitors, i bought these based on reviews in many web locations. the CLARITY just blew me away! i've played store bought cd's on it and i'm hearing things i never knew existed. was surprized how much my home stereo speakers color the music. the 5-1/4" woofers do a surprising job and can push some air when you want them to.
Features
power cords are shipped with each speaker. they are the 3-pin type normally used for guitar amps, keyboards, etc. heavy duty, probably #14 wire with heavy casing. i like the ability to use rca, xlr, or trs connectors. these guys were thinking.......the pots on the rear control knobs (2) have a heavy-duty "notched" feel to them as well.
Ease of Use
i like to leave the HF level adjust at "O", and just use the volume knob as i need it.
Quality
the finish is SICK. its my understanding the cabinest are MDF board, but you would never guess looking at them. ALL corners are radiused, the black-matte finish appears to be poured on generously! the bottom of the cabinets have a thin rubberized material glued on to minimize or eliminate movement of cabinet at high volumes. (they work)
Value
for the money, i cannot envision anyone doing better than these. my home studio is 12 X 12 and it more than fills the room! crystal clear

"Best speakers for the price!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I plan on holding on to these speakers until I'm able to purchase some Tannoys. Even then, I'm sure I will use these around the house for other purposes.
Sound
As already mentioned, for the price of these speakers you CANNOT find anything better. I've compared these side by side with other monitors in the price range (~$300) and let me tell you, it's not even close. I'd prefer these over the M-Audio Bx5a series, Rubikons, and Yamahas. Only critique of course would be that they lack a little in the low end, but then again, that is relative to what you are listening to and besides, you can always save up for the subwoofer. You can definitely hear them though.
Features
Comes with what is necessary. The db adjuster is a welcomed feature you normally wouldn't see in this price range.
Ease of Use
plug and play
Quality
You can tell these things were made to last. Don't be fooled by the price, these things are durable and look awesome.
Value
If you're on a budget, you NEED these. A+++
Manufacturer Support
Never head to deal with them.

Excellent quality monitors that made a difference in my mix immediately. In this price range I cant name another pair of monitors that beat the RP5's im sure you will have to at least go into the $500/pr price range to beat these.
Sound
Superb sound...especially in this price range. Flat and open which is really good for mixing.
Quality
Everything seems well made. No complaints so far.
Value
Excellent value. I got my pair for $250 out the door brand new.
The Wow Factor
I went out armed with a couple of my favorite music cd's and listened the RP5 monitors and a few other brand monitors in this price range and bought the RP5's...that answers that question easily.

The volume levels on back of speakers are useful.

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
I'll only give a 10 to something that comes with a handy, but these are awesome monitors. I've been using them for almost a year now and I couldn't be happier. Will probably go with KRK again when I decide to upgrade.
Sound
Very honest sound. Upon first using these, I found all kinds of mixing errors in my old tracks, which were produced using consumer speakers and some Audio-Technica headphones. And don't be fooled by their size; these little bastards are LOUD.
Features
Most noticeable feature: They make sound come out of my computer, and do it well.
Ease of Use
Plug and Play.
Quality
This gets an 8 only because one of the power cables that came with the monitors fits loosely into the monitor and the thing will power down when its playing something with excessive bass and the plug moves. Other than that, top notch. The main competition for these in my buying process were the equal-sized M-Audio DX4 monitors, and these KRKs blew them out of the water. Better than the comparable Alesis as well.
Value
Certainly the best one this size for 150.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to call once (and that's the best case scenario).
The Wow Factor
They look really hot. In face, they are the coolest looking monitors available. My gear is mostly black and gray. This spices things up a bit.

"Good things do come in small packages!!!"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I rate these speakers as an overall "8". They work great for my needs, and were very affordable and compact.
Sound
These speakers sound pretty good for the price but are a little muddy sounding in the mid low end frequencies. But other than that, they sound very warm and are easy on your ears. As with all studio monitors, you should spend some time with them to get used to their sound before attempting to create a final mix. I suggest listening to some of your favorite commercially released albums on the rp5's until you get familiarized with the frequency response. These monitors were a perfect fit for my small home studio. I use them along with a cheap pair of computer speakers and a pair of high-end earphones for my A-B-C comparisons. Mixes translate surprisingly well to other studio setups. Due to the small woofer and lack of low-end response it takes some finesse to fine tune the very low frequencies but nonetheless can be achieved. I don't use the built-in EQ's on the back because I prefer to keep the speakers as flat and true sounding as possible. I rate the sound as an "8" compared to NS10's being a "9" and Genelec's being a "10".
Quality
The quality is great! These things are built like a tank. Sturdy design, and stylish look.
Value
These are by far the best studio monitors that you can buy for under $350. Don't even think about getting M-Audio's speakers over these.
The Wow Factor
When it comes to Pro Audio, looks shouldn't be a determining factor. It's all about the sound. But if I was to rate these based off of looks alone, I would have to give them a BIG "10". Truth is, these things look like they should cost at least $800 a pair (but don't tell KRK that)...lol

"Small can sound big!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Overall for the money, these are the best in this price range. The nearest monitors I liked that sounded similar were the Dynaudioacoustics BM5A's at $1,000 a pair! I was really looking for something that was not as good as these, something in the line of old Aurotone 5A cubes. When I brought these into my studio they sounded even better than at the store. I was almost dissappointed! Ha!
Sound
The sound is great for the money. I also own a pair of $1700 Dynaudioacoustics BM6A's, JBL 4208 & Tannoy PBM 6.5. The bass is amazing for its size. It does not have the dynamic range of my BM6A's, but the frequency response is surprisingly good. The imaging is not as good as the JBL but the tweeters are actually smoother. These are better than the equivalently priced M-Audio monitors. I like them better than the old Yamaha NS10's!
Features
I like the the variety of inputs and of course the bi-amps. The yellow woofer is a nice touch as well as the front bass port & clever light location.
Quality
This seems very well made. Better build quality than the JBL and Tannoy. Not too much touches the quality of my BM6A's.
Value
This is the best value monitor period!
Manufacturer Support
Never needed it.
The Wow Factor
I bought these because I blew out the tweeters in my Tannoys, which I was using for B and C comparisons. I had no idea that I wanted these until I heard them. After hearing these I am apt to go listen to other KRK monitors before I just go out and just order what other studios have. IF you listen to these in this price range, you'll want them.

Great n' Perfect. Love them to bits!
Sound
Frist of all, I had these RP5's, playing next to M-Auidos 5" series, and well, guess who came home with me. The RP5's just had so much life in them, it was love at first listen. The M-Audios (same price), was just so lifeless, and didn't have that "welcome" sound to them. Go with RoKits, you won't be dissapointed!!
Features
Enough to be very happy with. After all, it's a monitor, your "tweeking" is done outside of the montor!
Quality
Rock solid. I'm sure i can have the drop onto the floor from there stands with out a scratch. They seem to be built extreamly well!
Value
Great value, expectaly when comparing to euqal value to another product.

Sound
Very rich and round. Good frequency response. I also have a much more expensive pair of Alesis Monitor One's and these RP-5s are quite comparable.
Features
The knobs on the back are great. They feel solid.
Quality
They're heavy and the knobs feel very solid.
Value
$300 is a lot to pay for monitors that I connect to a Boss Br864. They cost almost as much as the digital workstation did. We'll find out if it was worth it once I master something. I have experience working with more expensive monitors that really shine during the mastering process.

"Nice build features but marginal sound."

Overall: 3.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Verified Customer zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
Built quality, features, and usability are all excellent, but they fall down in the critical area of accurate sound reproduction.
Sound
I purchased these monitors to mix a CD of acoustic music. The monitors sound fine and would probably work well as home speakers for general music listening but they are not accurate or detailed enough to serve as a critical monitor for mixing. Good mixes on these speakers do not translate to other systems, resulting in a frustrating mixing process. They have a pleasing sound but not an accurate sound in my opinion.
Features
Good feature set. No complaints here.
Ease of Use

Can't beat it for the money. More expensive monitors will surely sound better, but for $300 a pair, I don't think any other company can make a monitor that sounds any better.
Sound
For the money, this is one of the best monitors you can by, imho. Very small speaker, but very full range, down to 50 hertz.
Features
Three different ways to hook up to the monitors, XLR, 1/4" and RCA. Treble attentuator and volume.
Quality
Great build. Seems better than the bigger monitors KRK makes. Probably not but the cabinets are very dense and do not resonate much at all.

For this price range its a 10. But comparing monitors under $3000 it'll still rack up about a 7
Sound
By far the best you can get for the price. My music have gone up 10 notches just because I now have a great pair of monitors.
Features
Comes with power cables. Thats it. Fit a little loose, but its fine. Would be nice to have a power switch on the side or front rather than only back so I don't have to reach over an behind stuff to turn them off. But eh there great, no complaints.
Ease of Use
Plug and play.
Quality
Great, each of these little guys weigh around 20 pounds. Not cheaply made at all.

These are not P/A speakers or speakers to play loud for a club etc. These are desktop monitoring speakers for professional use. If you mix / master your own music these would be ideal for a budget or small space.

Sound
amazing sound for the price. i've heard tons of "quality" speakers in the same price range, the rokit 5's just blow the competition away.
Features
came with everything I needed, but nothing extra
Ease of Use
good manual, plug and play. pretty simple
Quality
HAH! quality isn't even an issue. very sturdy build. mine have been turned on 24/7 for 5 years now and no hiccups on top of that, I have the 10s sub, and my house got flooded while it was sitting on the ground, turned off. it sat under 3 feet of water for about 5 hours. i dumped it out, let it dry and it still works! that was a year ago. true story. amazing quality
Value
untouchable
Manufacturer Support
haven't even had to bother with them
The Wow Factor
i like the way it looks, it's got a very nice minimalistic appeal to it. might not be everyone else's style tho

Sound
The RP-5's sounded awesome in the store and even better in my bedroom studio. I've mixed several projects on every type of studio monitor. For this price these simply are the best.

"Amazing, quality, solid, true sound"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Class of its own, no further comment.
Sound
Amazing, true sound, hear each instrument clearly-which helps to mix with precision & accuracy. Since i've purchased these monsters My mixes have been recorded with high definition and a solid level correctness. These 'monsters' have an amazing presence, even without the sound coming out. People who disagree with my comments on the sound are simply deaf & in the wrong business.
Features
Allows you manually decrease/increase the bass (Db) with a knob on the back of these 'monsters'....besides that there are no features on it. The emphasis is based on the sound it produces, no silly nonsense.
Ease of Use
Set up, power on & off you go...
Quality
These monitors are very solid, well designed & heavy. But this the weight is not an issue for me considering these are stationary in my studio.
Value
Definetly value for money, these are first monitors distroy some others that I have heard which are 3, 4 times more expensive.
Manufacturer Support
Never needed it

Overall great product a must own for any type of musician amature to professional. If you feel that the 75-Watts of bass that come stock with these subs isnt enough for your taste you can always get the 10 inch subwoofer for 199 which is a killer deal.
Sound
After a long time of mixing on stereospeakers/headphones/PC speakers I thought it would be time to upgrade to somoething more professional. After examining my beats on these monitors, they made me question my mixing abilites because all my beats seemed to be mixed really low. The sound from these bad boys is really really nice. Im surprised to see that such a small 5 inch woofer can pump out that much bass. The sound that came from these speakers was nice and crips and I enjoyed listening to music on em for longer period of times unlike headphones or other crappy mixing/mastering hardware.
Quality
The way the speakers look, sound and feel is trully remarkable I feel that KRK did a really nice job with them.
Value
For 149 dollar a piece I felt that they are easy on the wallet and good for any setup
The Wow Factor
