And beautiful she is! I mean, drop-dead gorgeous! I have picked her up everyday since she arrived and just don't want to put her down. Such a full, melodic sound unplugged and equally so when plugged in.I have an old, broke-down Bently acoustic that is my go-to acoustic, which I keep within arms reach for when inspiration or an urge to play strikes me. But since the Villager arrived, she has taken over the go-to position in my guitar line-up.I am just so thoroughly impressed by this guitar! Just read the rest of my review to learn why.
Sound
Unbelievable-Incredible-Fantastic-Pristine-Ethereal...in other words, simply the best sounding 12-string I have ever heard. I know it's under 400.00 but, in my personal opinion, with 35 years of playing experience under my belt, this truly is!I played it for a week before I realized I had not even tried the electronics and sound through an amp. Same thing plugged in, simply amazing!
Features
Easy access battery compartment. I mention this because I have had guitars that you had to remove the strings and stick your arm in the sound-hole!Very slim, comfortable, "C" shaped neck. Unique Villager head-stock. Comfortable Dreadnought body. Dual action Truss-rod. Gorgeous finish.Unfortunately, there is one very big draw-back with this guitar. The feature that makes this guitar so unique is also the feature that makes it impossible to find a case to fit. Fender does not make a case or bag for the Villager. I have thought about but not yet tried and acoustic bass case or bag. This I did not know when I bought it. In fact, I read the specs on the Villager and a Gator case and they sounded compatible. The guitar was 2" too long! Keep this in mind but please, don't let it discourage you!
Ease of Use
Absolutely the most comfortable, easy to play 12-string guitar I have ever played! I have not-so-bog hands and the necks narrower "C" neck fits them perfectly.
Quality
Very, very well made. The construction is sturdy, the neck and frets needed no adjustments. It arrived at my door in the cold Wisconsin winter & I let it sit in the box over night so the shock of going from cold to warm too suddenly wouldn't damage the finish or warp anything. Opened the box the next day, and once the initial shock of her absolute beauty wore off, I tuned her up and she was ready to go! Excellent quality for a guitar in any price range!
Value
Worth much more than the selling price compared to other 12-string guitars.
Manufacturer Support
Very good. I emailed the Fender company because I could not find a case to fit it. With the unusually long head-stock, a normal case will not work. I got a pretty quick response which said Fender does not make a case for the Villager and to contact TKL to have one custom made.
The Wow Factor
Oh, it definitely has the WOW factor! I have many guitars and other instruments set up in my music room and the first thing Everyone gravitates to is the Villager. The head-stock, both it's most unique and, sorry to say, most inconvenient feature, is the first thing to draw a comment. They pick it up, give it the 360 once-over, and are blown away by the finish, the triple binding and the satin-gold pick-guard. I can't Praise her Beauty enough! The pics on the website just don't do this guitar justice!
