Played many plectrum instruments for over 40 years (mostly ryhthm guitar) before I took up the mandolin. A friend loaned me a Harmony for 2 yrs, and then she took it back. I've never played an expensive mandolin. I had to adjust the bridge slightly, but I've managed to get it to tune quite accurately to my Boss quartz tuner. As a "pickup side man" this is the only way to go. Volume, intonation and voicing can be enhanced by utilizing proper amplification, so I am hard-pressed to think of a way to improve it's dollar-for-value.

I wanted a mandolin that I would be able to push beyond the limits of conventional mandolin sound, but still be in a reasonable price bracket. It isn't very loud acoustically, and the pickup is a bit distanced from the strings. But otherwise plugging it in and changing it's sound is very easy. Recommend it to anyone looking for cheap starter or someone looking to experiment with more options.

Quality:
This mandolin is well built. All the seams along the binding were smooth as can be. The quality was even superior to that of my $700 Kentucky Mandolin. The overall finish was like glass.

Value:
Oh yeah!

Sound:
Just short of the typical rich mandolin tone. I experimented by removing the pick-up and wiring and the tone improved a great deal.

Overall:
This mandolin will always be in my collection.
