Sound
I've owned one of these since they first came out --- I assume the current pedal has the same guts as mine. Why would they mess with it when it sounds so outstanding. Don't believe me? Then read just about every DigiTech Grunge pedal review ever posted on every site on the world wide web. But I totally understand your misgivings --- it looks cheap and it does look quite ridiculious actually --- it has a stupid name and it's a DigiTech which is generally associated with super mass produced lower end stuff --- also it's fairly cheap in price. And everyone knows that you only get what you pay for --- right? Well --- every rule has it's exception and this is one. I have been using mine for nearly 15 years and I still use it. I use it for one reason. It does what it does VERY --- VERY --- V-E-R-Y well. I used it today. I use it everyday. I'm not trying to say it's perfect and that it's the best pedal of all time or something. It's not going to be all things to all people. (It's a cheap DigiTech pedal for crypssake)! It's just insanely good at what it does. Anyway, I've got a ton of pedals from seriously expensive "super" pedals to used, abused and discarded classics. yet I always find time for the ol' Grunge in my line up. Try it in your chain behind a tubescreamer or a decent overdrive and you will be in distortion heaven --- front row center.
Ease of Use
Ummm... use the knobs to find a sound you like and then find the place in your chain that makes the Grunge sound good to your ears. Simple. I often use it behind my Big Muff to brighten the fuzz a touch. The Grunge pedal is not particularly heavy on the low end sounds so it ends up being great for adding definition.
Quality
Been going strong for about fifteen years and counting.

"just buy the damn pedal its awesome!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
this pedal diserves an award! its an amasing distortion pedal for value and id recomend it to anyone who wants a heavy distortion. its a must have if your in a metal band and its got better tone range than any boss pedal ive seen and it costs half!
Sound
the sound quality is amazing, nice distortion very crunchy and EQ allows you to choose various sounds from heavy and smooth to ballsy and crunchy. its great for metal infact it should be renamed metal instead of grunge really. i managed to get a sweet metallica sound through my epiphone les paul standard and i was very pleased
Features
it has 4 knobs: loud-increases your guitar signal, dont turn this up too much it will make your amp very loud even if it is set to a low volume! high-basicaly your treble low-basicaly your bass grunge-turn this up for a more fuzzy sounding distortion overall the features are great but to make this pedal perfect it should of had a mids dial but i was still very impressed
Ease of Use
the pedal came with booklet with 4 presets, they were all pretty good but if you want to personalise and perfect your sound, depeneding on how picky you are expect to spend between 10-15 minutes working out the whole pedal and how it works and how sensitive all the knobs are
Quality
its made of solid metal, it weighs 3 times more than any boss pedal so it wont slide about on stage. it doubles as weight lift for crying out loud!
Value
as i live in england the pedal cost a hell of a lot more than what it sells for in the US and as i also live in swindon in the UK it was priced at 40 pounds which is about $80. either way the pedal is amasing and id gladly pay 100 pounds for it!
Manufacturer Support
ive never dealed with digitech but they give a 6 year warranty so ill give them benefit of the doubt and give them a 10
The Wow Factor
its a very sexy looking pedal, it has cracks all around and is very trendy looking it would deafinetly catch anyones eye on the shelf!

"Grunge!!!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I've been playing guitars for 7 years, and have used so many pedals... This one blew all the others away... i play mostly metal, also jazz and fusion... You would love it, if you want something analog and doesnt have those fuzzy sounds like others...
Sound
Now...Holy Hell this pedal kick big ... Honestly, Boss's pedals cant even reach this much! The sound is clear, heavy, and the sustain is just too long to mention. You can have all of those analog metal sounds from this one (not like this digital stuff)...whether if the grunge level is at its lowest...so dont have to mention when it is set on to the highest...
Features
Way enough for a pedal...what do you want more... A Level, a Bass, a Treble and a Dist level... And also I love the way you can change the battery... Buy one and you'll know why its really good... (Hint: you can change the battery in couple of secs...)
Quality
Seriously, I have to give this pedal 10...
Value
Its not pricey at all...
The Wow Factor
I want it, yeah, and i got it...

This pedal is a good, cheap, and nice sounding pedal. It's built like a tank, and it gives me a nice distortion.
Sound
The sound of this pedal can go from a soft distortion to a good metal sound. Of course I use the metal sound. Just scoop the mids on your amp and you're ready to go.
Features
It didn't come with an adapter. However a battery was included along with some instructions.
Quality
It's hard as .... well ... the metal it's made of. The finish is nice, and I doubt this thing will break anytime soon.
Value
I say it's a good deal. If I had tried this out before buying, I might have sprung for the Digitech Death Metal pedal, but I'm just fine with this one.
Manufacturer Support
I haven't need any support because it's so easy to use.
The Wow Factor
Ummm .... sex appeal? Not exactly. It is pretty though.

"Metal, not Rock"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
To be honest, if I lost the Grunge, I would likely not buy another one (unless Digitech modifies the range of the "Grunge"). I'm not that into metal. However, if you play a lot of Pantera, Metallica, or tha like, consider getting this pedal. It is cheap as stone, yet it screams like metal.
Sound
First off, the title Grunge, as most would say, is an understatement. It sounds more like metal. It is versatile when it comes to hitting the wanted tone. However, the gain or the grunge is not really versatile. The gain, more or less, has one sound. The only thing that differs is the discernability of the playing. The lower the setting, the more that listeners will understand what you are playing. The higher the setting of the "grunge" knob, the lower the discernability of the sound.
Features
The high and low knobs work great. But when it comes to the "Grunge" knob, It doesn't give you much variability. The "grunge" knob should have been sweeped to a higher range.
Quality
There is only one thing I didn't like in this pedal (and all other digitech stomps, for that matter). Aesthetically speaking, the finish is perfect. But there are a couple of things I noticed when using it, and opening the latch for battery access. First, you have to step on it deeper than you step on Boss pedals to switch it, but it is not that bad. Next, when you unlatch the battery access, you will notice a .9cmX.9cm smoothedged square hole in the lower left corner, and from there, you will already see the green semiconductor (the chipset itself), making it exposed to dust. Maybe it's just me. Personally, I hope digitech will redesign it to keep its contents vacuum packed, and safe from dust and corrosion.
Value
Though it is not as versatile as I thought, I still think it is a good buy.
Manufacturer Support
Though I think it should be redesigned to make it more dependable quality-wise, I haven't had any problems with my pedal yet. I have two digitechs, they've been with me for a just few months now. I have yet to see its durability.
The Wow Factor
Though it is not as veratile as my other Digitech, this pedal is a good addition to my rig. I mainly use it for searing leads. It screams the most out of any amp I use.

Overall it is pretty coooooooool!
Sound
I say 9 because I'm more metal than alternative or grunge and I am just really picky about tonal qualities. And since I like metal more I replaced it with the Death Metal but if you like alternative and grunge this is definately the pedal for you. I trust you would rate it 10
Features
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the loud knob!!!
Ease of Use
Pretty damn easy!
Quality
just like all Digitech products, built like a tank.
The Wow Factor
I think the paint job on it is pretty cool

"It was Ok...While it lasted."

Overall: 2 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I liked it when it worked, but hey, 5 months is no excuse, and the support is terrible. I think i really got scammed on this one.
Sound
Well, I bought this product a couple of months ago, and I gotta say it was great. Key word "was" The grunge knob was a nice touch, especially for that nice bleeding distortion tone. It really is good for metal, but it was a bit lacking on the bass response even with the bass knob up (could be my pickups, idk)
Features
Good features, nice controls, and it is pretty stable... at least for some time
Ease of Use
If you have ever used a distortion pedal before this one is easy.
Quality
Here's my major bug: i bought this crap in January, I havent used it much, and only a few days ago, I played it and BAM, the battery dies...or so I think i replace the battery, and well, nothing happened. Literally, it didnt even turn on. I plugged it in to the power supply that it recommends to use (the Harman one) and nada, zilch. it was decent while it lasted, but the thing died after 5 months!!!! not even that!!! also, after a little bit, the knobs get loose, but hey, thats happened on every pedal I have played with so i cant really complain about that
Value
Well, for a one timer, it fared well! Im buying a TS9 now!
Manufacturer Support
Didnt even pick up the phone or reply to my emails when i called them about the unit, and then i found out they scammed me with the warranty. Apparently I had to fill out some crappy warranty card that comes with the product to get the warranty, and noone does that i think anyway Point is, no warranty, no replacement, and I am distortion-less -.-
The Wow Factor
Eh, at first glance i only bought it b/c of a sound demo I had heard earlier. It looks decent, and I wouldnt really downgrade it because of looks alone. its just the durability etc.

"GREAT FOR SELF-DEFENSE WHEN WALKING DOWN ALLEYWAYS AT NIGHT!!!"

Overall: 1 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Oh please, don't listen to the morons who say it's "just like Nirvana!/STP!/Pearl Jam! If you wanna play grunge go buy a DS-1 /Proco/bigmuff and then downtune your guitars. Grunge is great but this is a awful misshapen shrine to a great genre. DeLeo and Cobain would spew if they played this thing.
Sound
I tried this one out while browsing for a standard distortion pedal and was mortified by it. I gave it a go on a tele, a strat and a les paul and was disgusted. Its tone is screechy, transistor awfulness that resembles my Grandma during a major epileptic fit. No amount of different tonal setups can save this pedal from its grave disposition. Best left for boneheads and amateurs who bang out chords carefree.
Features
Relatively straightforward. Yet even if it had an inbuilt Equalizer it would still suck.
Ease of Use
Its great! It's so bad that i can hardly tell the difference when i chain a chorus or a phaser on! You don't even need to know how to play to get the same sound as you would if Pete townshend or satriani was using this pedal!
Quality
Excellent. Durable and solid as a rock. I'll start keeping one of these near me when i walk home late at night for self-defence.
Value
Even if i won the lottery i wouldn't pay ten dollars for it.
Manufacturer Support
I didn't buy it.
The Wow Factor
Aesthetically challenged in many aspects.

"The best pedal for grunge fans everywhere. For fans of bands like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, or even Pearl Jam"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I will never replace it, it is the BEST ever. I love everything about it!
Sound
This pedal sounds awesome. It actually is the newer model of the pedal kurt cobain used. If you love Nirvana like me you need this pedal! The grunge knob on the pedal adds distortion and fuzz. Even with grunge turned all the way down you get heavy sounds, but no fuzz. So if you're worried about the fuzz, just turn down the grunge and you can play stuff like AC/DC and Def Leppard! Oh ya, and for all you metal heads, this pedal ain't for you. It's GRUNGE not METAL. If you do like metal, get a Boss Metal Zone or Digitech Death Metal.
Features
If this product was made to drop out of bombers, then it would be pretty lethal weapon! It's made out of hard metal with hard plastic on the bottom. Whenever it's dropped though it makes a nasty sound... Don't be fooled though, that sound means nothing it's pretty much indestructable.
Ease of Use
How hard can it be to use the thing? Sure the manual comes with pre sets, but I just turn it up to insane and start playing. You can get the exact sounds of songs like: Smells Like Teen Spirit and even Heart Shaped Box and Lithium. If only I could get my hands on a jagstang, it would sound soooooo awesome.
Quality
Made well, and the light purple with the cracks looks sick.
Value
I would pay a million times more for this pedal! It's worth it.
Manufacturer Support
Never dealt with support, i'll never have to either... This pedal is a beast!
The Wow Factor
I wanted this pedal soooo bad, it is hhhott. Without it, my guitar would sound like crap.

I own pretty much the whole DigiTech collection (i.e. Death Metal, Hot Head, Bad Monkey, etc.). I am very happy w/my colletion, as I do own countless other brands as well. The grunge in one of my favorites, and when combined w/a Boss GE-7 (or other eq pedal), the possibilities seem endless. I recommend it!
Sound
I love it, to each his/her own I guess. If people are grumbling about fuzz, then they maybe should have never purchased a grunge pedal in the first place. Remember that metal and grunge are two different styles. While your at it, compare it to the blues pedal too, jeez! It sounds great through my Peavey JSX head. BTW, there is a knob to control the grunge.

Would not add a thing.
