Alvarez AF70CE Acoustic-Electric Guitar

This beautiful acoustic-electric has an impressive volume for its small size. It is great for capturing a blues or folk sound.

This model has nice electronics, a chromatic tuner, notch filter, 2 pickups that can be blended together, and volume, bass, mid and treble. The electronics are sophisticated for a guitar at this price level. This guitar doesnt sound as good unplugged as my more expensive guitars such as my $700 Ovation, the sound is slightly bright and thin due to the laminated back and sides. These are not solid tone woods. The guitar is very lightweight but plays extremely well. The action was high out of the box and just needed for me to tighten the truss rod, which brought the action down to a perfect level. The guitar plays well, very fast. I would say that plugged in with a full band no one is going to be able to hear the difference between this guitar and a three thousand dollar Martin or Taylor. Once you plug in, the electronics in the guitar, and the amp you play through have more of an effect on the sound than the wood of the guitar. My guitar is mint unblemished, I am very satisfied. You get what you pay for so dont expect the unplugged sound to match that of a more expensive guitar, as I said the sound is slightly thin compared to my more expensive acoustic guitars.I would say if you are on a budget but needed a guitar to play live this would be a very good choice. This guitar is smaller than the grand auditorium models, yet larger than a parlor but smaller than a 000 (triple 0) model. The version without electronics does not have a cutaway. The frets feel good, the neck is very comfortable and the guitar plays very fast for scale runs. The volume is sufficient. Perhaps in a few months when the top breaks in the guitar will sound a little fuller but out of the box the sound is slightly thin. Its basically a 300 dollar guitar with an additional 150 dollars worth of electronics.
