Perhaps the most requested Yamaha product of the last year has been a rack mount module version of the award winning Motif synthesizer. Yamaha probably could have just scaled the Motif down into a rack version but they wanted to take Motif technology to the next level. So the new rack is not just affordable, it uses a newly designed sound chip that includes expanded polyphony (128 Notes) and inserts effects (4 Inserts in Mix Mode). The Motif Rack is perfect for both Motif owners who want to expand the power of their Motif system or those who already have plenty of other keyboards and want Motif sounds in a convenient rack mount size.

The core Voices are identical to Motif plus an additional 2 new Preset Voice Banks and 256 User Editable Voices (twice the user area of Motif). Motif Voices can be loaded directly in to the rack via MIDI.

Effects processing is where the new tone generation chip really shines. In addition to a newly developed reverb algorithm, in the Motif Rack's 16 Part Multi Timbral Mode up to 4 Voices can have their insertion effects enabled simultaneously, and each of the 16 Parts has it's own 3-band EQ.

The 2 PLG cards slots allow for expansion of polyphony, effects and synthesis capabilities. The 6 outputs (stereo main plus 4 individual assignable outs) and the digital outputs (coaxial and optical) insure complete connectivity. Plus the Motif Rack comes with all the software (Voice Editor, File Utility, Multi Part editor) to take full advantage of your computer and the Mo Rack's MIDI capabilities (with both standard 5-pin DIN and USB MIDI connection). The 160 x 64 dot LCD provides clear and easily viewable display of all the Motif Rack's parameters.

Sound: It blows away everything, including Triton. Drums are awesome, strings for every style, everything else is great. Feature: Arpeggios are great, massive amount of ROM banks (5x128 Preset, 128GM) and user banks (2x128). Digital I/O included! PLG150 cards accessible in voice mode via MIDI; NOT selectable in Multi patches via MIDI, only via USB. Quality: Travel with it 2 times a week. Taking the beating quite well. Value: This is worth much more than what I paid for it. Manufacturer Support: Have not needed it. The Wow Factor: A must have. For the price of a Triton Studio 88, you can get 3 Motif Racks (can you count ... 384 note polyphony?) Overall: This will change the way you make music. It has no equal.
