A Century of Sound Behind Superlative Mixers
Yamaha is an unusual company. There are very few others who can claim "total music involvement," but that is Yamaha's position. They've been making fine musical instruments for more than 100 years, industry-leading sound reinforcement mixers for more than 30 years, and cutting-edge digital mixers and music production gear for 15 years. In sound-reinforcement terms 30 years is a very long time. In fact, 30 years is roughly equal to the total history read more of sound reinforcement (the term "sound reinforcement" wasn't even used back then -- it was still "PA"), and they've been there the entire time. Innovating, leading, and in many ways defining the development of modern mixing consoles.

They're still at it. Yamaha is proud to introduce the Yamaha MG-series mixing consoles. There have been no compromises in this new line. The MG mixers are built for great sound, total control, and superior reliability. In fact, they undergo the same rigorous quality and reliability tests as Yamaha's world-class PM-series mixing consoles. But, by taking full advantage of the latest Yamaha technology and manufacturing techniques, Yamaha has been able to pack these superlative mixers with more value than you'll find anywhere else. In short, they offer extraordinary performance and mixing power at remarkable prices.

If you need a high-performance analog mixer for music production or sound reinforcement, the Yamaha MG Series is the first -- and last -- place you should look.

The Yamaha MG12/4 will be useful to anyone that needs a quiet and respectable sounding 12x4 mixer. I would definitely buy it again.
Sound
The MG 12/4 has a super quiet noisefloor and a lot of useable headroom. EQ is useful and musical. The mic pre's are absolutely the best I have heard in any mixer in the $200 or less range. I use it for broadcast on internet radio, but this mixer would also be very useful for a small home studio for the purpose of producing clean sounding demos.
Features
Has all the right features and can handle all general purpose mixing situations. The connections it offers also make this mixer very universal as it employs balanced AND unbalanced input/output jacks.
Quality
This mixer is built like a tank and about as heavy. The faders are fairly smooth feeling and 100mm in size - a nice professional touch. The knobs are not wobbly and have nice center detents, all the buttons are secure feeling and not loose. The blue finish is pretty nice as well.
Value
Those of you considering ANY other brand of compact mixer of equal or lesser price - don't bother. Yamaha has always made excellent audio equipment and this compact mixer is no exception. Unlike some of the other brands with that silly "ALT 3-4" feature to let them masquerade as such - the MG 12/4 is a genuine 4-buss mixer. Worth the price, and then some.
The Wow Factor
If the term "useful" can be substituted for the term "sexy", then on a scale of 1 to 10 - this mixer ranks a 12.
