The MDF3 provides quick, simple, and portable data storage of MIDI data from synthesizers, samplers, tone generators, drum machines, sequencers, signal processors, or other MIDI devices with bulk dump capability, on handy 2HD or 2DD floppy disks.

Quick, Simple MIDI Data Recording, and Playback
Straightforward real-time MIDI data recording and playback features let you sketch out musical ideas quickly. SMF formats (0 and 1) lets you play back files of sequences created on a separate sequencer or a computer.

Battery-powered for flexibility in the field, the MDF3 is right at home in any MIDI setup, whether used as an ideal data storage companion for a single MIDI device or an indispensable MIDI data filing workhorse in even the most complex of modern music systems.

Sound: The MDF3 does not produce sound. Feature: It was necessary to buy a power adapter to operate the MDF3. Batteries were not included, and would be useless for extended use of the unit. Quality: The MDF3 appears to be well constructed and will probably last a long time with reasonable use, however this owner has only used it a short time. Value: This unit costs $359 and change. For such a primitive midi device that price tag represents a huge rip off. Manufacturer Support: Uknown. The Wow Factor: Not applicable. Overall: For an electronic musician who's working with a couple of aging Roland SD-35's for which replacement disk drives are TOTALLY unobtainable, the Yamaha MDF3 is the last-chance backup midi player device. It is the ONLY alternative. Hook it up to the SD-35 or other module with a midi cable, and it will play your midi files, but don't expect any ammenities. Bring a flashlight to read the non-backlit LED. Be prepared to rename you files with goofy extensions to get them to play in a logical order. Put a little extra time aside to start each song, as you will have to press three buttons plus the foot switch to start a song on the beat. And each time you turn this thing on don't forget to reset everything,'cause this little fellow has 0, as in zero, memory. Read the manual and scratch your head over who the heck this thing was designed for!
