With a realistic-feeling 88-key Graded Hammer Action weighted keybed and 28 stage-ready voices, including Yamaha's stunning acoustic pianos, the Yamaha CP33 delivers the sound and feel of a grand piano in a portable instrument.

Made To Be Played

Anyone who's been in a committed relationship knows that it can be hard sometimes to figure out what exactly your partner wants. Not so with the Yamaha CP33; it couldn't be more obvious what the CP33 wants to do, and that's to play live. You'll be happy to oblige, especially with the CP33's 88-key Graded Hammer Action keyboard. The GHA's feel is so uncannily like a real grand piano's -- the weighted keys slightly increase in weight moving towards the bass end; the sustain pedal function supports nuanced half-damper effects -- you'll be inspired to become a better player, and isn't that how every relationship should work? The CP33 also streamlines live performance by presenting a simple interface and control layout. Want to move between the CP33's 28 premium instrument voices? All it takes is a single button press, and no scrolling through other sounds to get there. Likewise, you get pitch and mod wheels to heighten your performance, but also two sliders that can easily be assigned to any parameter you want. A handy control lock keeps you or someone else from accidentally changing parameters, so you'll be free to riff wildly on the organ patch and not suddenly find yourself jamming on a grand piano. The CP33 is also compact and light, so you won't break a sweat until you're on stage.

The Amazing Yamaha Grand Piano Sound

What makes the CP33 a truly exceptional live instrument, however, is its sound. "CP" used to designate Yamaha's original compact piano line, which used real hammers and strings to closely approximate the sound of a full-sized piano. With the CP line's reputation on the line, Yamaha had to deliver an equally impressive sound, and that's just what they've done. AVM modeling techniques accurately recreate the subtleties of an acoustic instrument, including resonant harmonic overtones, true stereo reverberant decay, and even the sound of felt dampers leaving the strings when a key is released. While this stereo-sampled sound is rich and complex when recorded, Yamaha knows that in live performance, stereo voices can create mix issues. That's why they've included a specially-tailored mono version of the Grand Piano that retains all the detail but makes your live engineer's life a whole lot easier. There's more than just top-of-the-line piano sounds on the CP33 -- a total of 28 unique and highly dynamic voices are at your disposal, with emulations including classic electric pianos, tonewheel organs, and non-keyboard voices like guitar, bass, strings and more, each one totally stage-ready and professional-sounding.

It Makes The Perfect Controller, Too

Want to expand your sound palette? The CP33 is fully MIDI-capable, so you can use its exquisite Graded Hammer Action keyboard to play your favorite MIDI sound module. Or, connect to your computer or VST hardware host via the CP33's USB jack. Software and hardware synthesizers you put in the gear closet will suddenly find their way onstage with you. The Yamaha CP33 is a great addition to any studio setup, too. Whether you just record yourself or bring in session vets, you'll be inspiring and capturing more expressive, lively performances with the CP33 as your main controller keyboard.

If you're ready to take the big plunge with a professional stage piano, do yourself a favor and give the Yamaha CP33 some serious consideration.

Product Description

Thirty years of technology and experience distilled into a brilliant instrument. Introducing the Yamaha CP33 stage piano.

In 1976, Yamaha released the first of the CP series stage pianos. These 'electric grands' became instant classics with their authentic sound and live performance convenience. Thirty years later, Yamaha celebrates those milestone keyboards by unveiling the greatest in the CP series: the CP33. Drawing on their rich tradition and experience, this instrument gives the live performer all the sound and expressiveness of a superbly mic'd grand piano with the portability and versatility of a modern digital instrument.

Features:

- 88-key Graded Hammer keyboard with authentic touch
- State-of-the-art AWM tone generation system
- Maximum polyphony of 64 notes
- Compact, light and protable -- easy to carry and easy to set up
- 28 original voices
- Reverb, and other effects, including Chorus, Phaser, Temolo and Rotary Speaker
- Comprehensive MIDI functioins
- Mastermode, for independent control of up to two external tone generators
- Real-time controllers -- including sliders and Pitch Bend/Modulation wheels for maximum expression
- USB terminal -- letting you connect to a computer for recording of your performances, creating/arranging of songs, and converting to notation mention real-time controllers

Made to be played
Like all fine instruments, the Yamaha CP33 simply begs to be played. Sit down with one, and the instrument becomes an extension of your hands and your musical imagination. The authentic piano voices and rich expressiveness come alive at your touch, and the sound is big enough to blast through a full band onstage -- yet nuanced enough to work magic in an intimate club.

Expressive Power
Yamaha's extensive experience in crafting fine acoustic pianos helps us in creating the ultimate digital pianos such as the CP33. Their advanced Graded Hammer Effect (GHE) action gives all keys an authentic resistance that increases from the top register to the lower -- just as on an actual acoustic piano. Which means that you can naturally pound out thunderous low notes with your left hand and let the fingers on your right dance and fly with the high notes. This keyboard practically plays itself, working with you -- not against you -- and brings out the very best in your performance.

Sound choice
Crafting the authentic sound of the Yamaha CP33 involved extraordinary attention to detail. They used meticulously recorded stereo samples of top-quality instruments, taken at various playing strengths, and included subtle elements such as String Resonance (harmonic overtones), Stereo Sustain (open strings while pedaling), and even Key-Off Samples (recordings of felt dampers coming to rest on vibrating piano strings) -- providing the most authentic sounding and finely nuanced acoustic piano voices possible. There's also a wide variety of other dynamic sounds, including vintage electric piano, organ, guitar, strings, and much more.

Stay in control
As master keyboard controllers, the Yamaha CP33 stage piano lets you take command of your gear. Play and control external synthesizers and tone generators (such as the MOTIF-RACK ES) during your performance. Assign different internal voices to different sections of the keyboard or even create complex, multi-textured layers of sound. There are two instrument Zones on the CP33, with dedicated Zone sliders on the panel that let you easily tweak the level of each instrument as you play. You can also freely reassign the sliders and wheels to control other sonic characteristics of the connected gear as desired, such as sound attack, decay, brightness and filter cutoff.

Take center stage
Step out front and make your presence known. The Yamaha CP33 has a special Mono Piano sound, complete with a compression effect, designed specifically for live performance. It has the punch and power to stand out, even in full band situations.

Light and compact
Despite its full 88-key keyboard, realistic grand piano sound and extensive features, the Yamaha CP33 is exceptionally compact, light and portable. It goes wherever you go, sets up anywhere you need, and gives you complete piano performance everywhere you play.

Pedal to the Metal
The CP series keyboards give you the same pedal control as an actual grand piano. The Yamaha CP33 has Sustain Pedal and Aux jacks (which can be configured as Soft or Sostenuto, or even Expression). On certain piano sounds, Sustain can be partially applied -- reproducing the "half-damper" effect of slightly muting the resonating strings on a real piano.

Customer Reviews
4.5 out of 5 (75 ratings) Rate and Review This Product
"The new bench mark for pianos!"
Sound: Top of the line piano samples, very expressive multi layer samples that come to life as you play. Yamaha has always came out on top when it comes to piano samples, and again they have done it better. The CP-33 is a large step up from the P-series units in both sound and feel. This review considers only the piano sounds, the other sounds are very true and nice, but not needed. Feature: The features provided are exactly what I was looking for, a piano without all the recording junk that you pay too much for. It has all the basics normally included plus things like touch adjustments. All appear to work as they were intended, but I don't have much use for the panel lock feature. I rated this unit a 9 because of one problem -- no music rest included!! This was a bad judgement by yamaha considering they include it on almost every other piano they sell. You can get a rest (made for the cp33) by ordering it through yamaha. It connects in the holes located on the back panel (look at the pics on the net). Ease of Use: To keep this simple, every option included is easy to use, however, I have not used MIDI functions and would have no idea the rating on such. One thing to note, the action of the keys is heavy compared to other brands ( it feels like an actual grand piano ), so be prepared to learn a little. Quality: Metal case is very strong and all parts are well placed an appear to be good quality. Again, a step above the P-series in construction, the controls actually feel less plasticy than the P-140. This unit is made to be played at home or on the road with no problems. Only one complaint, yes yamaha, how hard would it be to build the power supply into the piano? This would be an improvement. Value: Paid 1299.95 and walked away happy with the piano I wanted. I do believe the price should be lower but I am happy with my decision. It is worth the extra money to go a step above the P-series, I reccomend trying both types side-by-side and you will see the difference. Manufacturer Support: When I emailed support to ask about sound demos, I was told to go to my dealer and listen. This was a very sorry response-thus the rating. I have owned multiple yamaha pianos and never had to use support so I'm not sure of a true rating. The Wow Factor: This rating is based on the fact I was looking for an upgrade Yamaha Digital Piano. If you are not interested in true piano sound, true feel and touch, then you may consider another unit. It is very professional looking and invites you to play. Overall: Again, it is what I was looking for. The P-series in no longer equiped with outputs for stage performance and recording, and to be honest the P-60 was better constructed than the new P-140. The cp-33 will open doors of performance because of it's state of the art piano sounds. No the other brands DO NOT sound as good as Yamaha.

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful. "CP33 a home run."
Sound: The Grand piano is excellent, both organs are excellent, and the electric painos are super too. The harpsecord is very good and both the clav & the E Bass are excellent. The worst sound in the keyboard is the guitar which doesn't sound anything like a guitar (they try for a Nylon string sound) the strings are very good blended with the grand sounds great. I use it with a 200 watt carvin PA head and a pair of EV ZX190 speakers. Feature: The digital display is stupid showing the metronome numbers most of the time (120). The pitch bend wheel is nice. The room reverbs are limited and the effects overall are very slight changes. Best feature is just a great "real" piano feel keys. Very good dynamics for a electric keyboard. Ease of Use: So simple even a caveman could do it. Just push a button and your off. The manual is ok, there is no learning curve (it's easy). Some of the button stick sometimes, like the slit feature, or the double voice use. Quality: I have already played mine at over 100 road gigs in less than a year. One of the screws fell out of the bottom, but I just put it back in. Would recommend a good gig bag like I have with wheels, it may be 40 lbs that is about half what my old CP20 weighed. I had that one for over 20 years and it always sounded good. So I stuck with the Yamaha agian. Value: Not cheap at over $1000. but a very good value I think because it's very well built. Manufacturer Support: Who knows, have owned many Yamaha products over the years don't think I ever needed service on one of them. The power cord is the 1st thing that will break it's wimpy thin. The Wow Factor: Yamaha always seems to make you look good on stage. I'm a live preformer and when the big letters facing the audience say YAMAHA CP33 you always get respect right away. All the musicians know this is pro gear not cheap junk. Overall: We pro musicians are very tough and critical of our equipment. I demand alot from my gear and most of the time I get it from this keybaord. Take the hard comments with a grain of salt, we expect everything to be perfect
