Do you spend a lot of time with your piano? Like, a lot of time? Chances are, if you're a working keyboardist, you're spending hours upon hours every day with your chosen instrument, and just like any intimate relationship, you start to notice your partner's imperfections quickly. That's why picking out a professional performance keyboard can be so stressful. Make the decision easier by choosing an instrument without any imperfections! The Yamaha C33 Stage Piano brings so much joy to your live performance life, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
Made To Be Played
Anyone who's been in a committed relationship knows that it can be hard sometimes to figure out what exactly your partner wants. Not so with the Yamaha CP33; it couldn't be more obvious what the CP33 wants to do, and that's to play live. You'll be happy to oblige, especially with the CP33's 88-key Graded Hammer Action keyboard. The GHA's feel is so uncannily like a real grand piano's--the weighted keys even slightly increase in weight moving towards the bass end; the sustain pedal function supports nuanced half-damper effects--you'll be inspired to become a better player, and isn't that how every relationship should work? The CP33 also uncomplicates live performance by presenting a streamlined interface and control layout. Want to move between the CP33's 28 premium instrument voices? All it takes is a single button press, and no scrolling through other sounds to get there. Likewise, you get pitch and mod wheels to heighten your performance, but also two sliders that can easily be assigned to any parameter you want. A handy control lock keeps you or someone else from accidentally changing parameters, so you'll be free to riff wildly on the organ patch and not suddenly find yourself jamming on a grand piano. The CP33 is also compact and light, so you won't break a sweat until you're on stage.
The Amazing Yamaha Grand Piano Sound. . . And More
What makes the CP33 a truly exceptional live instrument, however, is its sound. "CP" used to designate Yamaha's original compact piano line which used real hammers and strings to closely approximate the sound of a full-sized piano. With the CP-line's reputation on the line, Yamaha had to deliver an equally impressive sound, and that's just what they've done. AVM modeling techniques accurately recreate the subtleties of an acoustic instrument, including resonant harmonic overtones, true stereo reverberant decay, and even the sound of felt dampers leaving the strings when a key is released. While this stereo-sampled sound is rich and complex when recorded, Yamaha knows that in live performance, stereo voices can create mix issues. That's why they've included a specially-tailored mono version of the Grand Piano that retains all the detail but makes your live engineer's life a whole lot easier. There's more than just top of the line piano sounds on the COP33, however. . . a total of 28 unique and highly dynamic voices are at your disposal, with emulations including classic electric pianos, tonewheel organs, and non-keyboard voices like guitar, bass, strings and more, each one totally stage-ready and professional-sounding.
It Makes The Perfect Controller, Too!
Want to expand your sound pallet? The CP33 is fully MIDI-capable, so you can use its exquisite Graded Hammer Action keyboard to play your favorite MIDI sound module. Or, connect to your computer or VST hardware host via the CP33's USB jack. Software and hardware synthesizers you put in the gear closet will suddenly find their way onstage with you. The Yamaha CP33 is a great addition to any studio setup, too. Whether you just record yourself or bring in session vets, you'll be inspiring and capturing more expressive, lively performances with the CP33 as your main controller keyboard.
If you're ready to take the big plunge with a professional stage piano, do yourself a favor and give the Yamaha CP33 some serious consideration. It's our way of wishing you and your new CP33 a happy, healthy, and long relationship.
Thirty years of technology and experience distilled into a brilliant new instrument. Introducing the CP33 Stage Piano.
In 1976, Yamaha released the first of the CP series stage pianos. These 'electric grands' became instant classics with their authentic sound and live performance convenience. Thirty years later, Yamaha celebrates those milestone keyboards by unveiling the latest and greatest in the CP series: the new CP33. Drawing on their rich tradition and experience, this instrument gives the live performer all the sound and expressiveness of a superbly mic'd grand piano with the portability and versatility of a modern digital instrument.

Made to be played
Like all fine instruments, the CP series keyboards simply beg to be played. Sit down with one, and the instrument becomes an extension of your hands and your musical imagination. The authentic piano voices and rich expressiveness come alive at your touch, and the sound is big enough to blast through a full band onstage -- yet nuanced enough to work magic in an intimate club.
Expressive Power
Yamaha's extensive experience in crafting fine acoustic pianos helps us in creating the ultimate digital pianos. Our advanced Graded Hammer Effect (GHE) action gives all keys an authentic resistance that increases from the top register to the lower -- just as on an actual acoustic piano. Which means that you can naturally pound out thunderous low notes with your left hand and let the fingers on your right dance and fly with the high notes. This keyboard practically plays itself, working with you -- not against you -- and brings out the very best in your performance.
Sound choice
Crafting the authentic sound of the CP series involved extraordinary attention to detail. We used meticulously recorded stereo samples of top-quality instruments, taken at various playing strengths, and included subtle elements such as String Resonance (harmonic overtones), Stereo Sustain (open strings while pedaling), and even Key-Off Samples (recordings of felt dampers coming to rest on vibrating piano strings) -- providing the most authentic sounding and finely nuanced acoustic piano voices possible. There's also a wide variety of other dynamic sounds, including vintage electric piano, organ, guitar, strings, and much more.
Stay in control
As master keyboard controllers, the CP33 stage piano lets you take command of your gear. Play and control external synthesizers and tone generators (such as the MOTIF-RACK ES) during your performance. Assign different internal voices to different sections of the keyboard or even create complex, multi-textured layers of sound. There are two instrument Zones on the CP33, with dedicated Zone sliders on the panel that let you easily tweak the level of each instrument as you play. You can also freely reassign the sliders and wheels to control other sonic characteristics of the connected gear as desired, such as sound attack, decay, brightness and filter cutoff.
Take center stage
Step out front and make your presence known. The CP33 has a special Mono Piano sound, complete with a compression effect, designed specifically for live performance. It has the punch and power to stand out, even in full band situations.
Lock it up
Onstage, you need to make sure everything goes smoothly. Sometimes an errant hand (yours or someone else's) can touch the panel controls and change your special settings, giving you a rude surprise in the middle of your performance. The Panel Lock button lets you prevent that, keeping all settings fixed and secure, until you're ready to change them yourself.
Light and compact
Despite its full 88-key keyboard, realistic grand piano sound and extensive features, the CP33 is exceptionally compact, light and portable. It goes wherever you go, sets up anywhere you need, and gives you complete piano performance everywhere you play.
Pedal to the Metal
The CP series keyboards give you the same pedal control as an actual grand piano. The CP33 has Sustain Pedal and AUX jacks (which can be configured as Soft or Sostenuto, or even Expression). On certain piano sounds, Sustain can be partially applied -- reproducing the "half-damper" effect of slightly muting the resonating strings on a real piano.
