This Thunder and Lightning Series boom is unique offering 4 degrees of adjustment: front-to-back, up/down, side-to-side and rotationally with just one knob adjustment. Telescoping design provides 17.8 to 31.5 in. of length.

The Ultimate Thunder and Lightning Series booms and mic stands are uniquely engineered with innovative features, making them better than the average stand. The Thunder booms feature "4 Degrees of Freedom" making front-to-back, up-and-down, side-to-side and rotational adjustment possible by tightening just one knob. The Lightning stands feature the "Flash" base. Just squeeze the lever to open and close all three legs in one easy "umbrella style" motion; release the lever to lock the legs in place in both the open and closed positions. Feature:
One knob releases and locks telescoping, vertical movement, and swivel movement.
Quality:
I use this for recording. Because of the nature of this arm, you may not want to use it on stage where others may use it. On a typical boom, you can just force it up or down even when it's tight. I get the impression that would be a really bad idea with this arm, but I'm not going to test it out.
Value:
I know there are much cheaper boom arms out there, but they usually suck. I have some economy stands and they're so flimsy it's embarassing to have anyone use them.
Desirability:
Ultimate is patenting this mechanism. I was leery about how it would work, but I'm glad I took a chance. I'm now purchasing a second one.

We'll see how it stands up to the test of time, but I'm giving it really light use, so I expect it will hold up for years. Combine this with a clutch hight adjustment on the base stand, and you've got any position you want in two moves, or often just one.

I love the quick tripod opening/closing and the single knob adjustment for the boom arm. Had no problems with it yet, but have only had it a year.
Quality:
Pretty well, though maybe not up to the level of some of their other products, I have no real complaints.
Value:
I bit spendy, but about the right price considering features and build.
Desirability:
The only mic stand I ever want to own.
Ease of Use:
Very easy to use; heck, it's a mic stand and all they've done is make it easier & quicker to use.
Support:
Ultimate Support has absolutely the best customer service department I've ever had to deal with. That said, I've had no need to contact them on this particular product, but every Apex or speaker stand problem I've ever had was taken care of post haste.
