The Midisport 2x2 was first introduced in 2000--and quickly became the world's most popular USB MIDI interface. This overwhelming success inspired the creation of an entire Midisport line designed to meet the varying needs of diverse music makers. I've become a fan of MIDIMAN products recently, and this little wonder is no exception. It's a snap to install, and works beautifully. If all you need is a couple extra MIDI ports for your computer, this is the way to go.
There is only one limitation, however. Be aware that in "MIDI Thru" mode, the signal only goes through from Port A In to Port A Out, and from Port B In to Port B Out. I had expected the MIDI data to go through to both ports simultaneously (like on the 8x8 model)and was rather disappointed to discover it didn't. Doubly so since I found this out at a gig when I tried to play both my keyboards and WX5 Wind Controller through the same synth via a MidiSport 2x2. Whoops, THAT didn't work! Even with this slight setback, however, this is a top-notch MIDI interface for any USB equipped PC.
If you just need a couple extra MIDI ports, this could be the perfect solution. If you think you might need more ports in the future...you can always add more 2x2s (they coexist wonderfully). If you're like me, though, you might want to spend a little extra and go straight for the 8x8. I got two of the 2x2s before realizing I was (once again) in need of more ports, so I decided to get the Midisport 8x8 rather than build upon a towering stack of little lime boxes (check my review on the 8x8 too).

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. |
Feature:
If you just need more midi I/O's and don't want anything else, this is your device.
Quality:
Made of very durable metal container and is compact. What I've come to expect from Midiman/MAudio.
Value:
The price is nice and you get quality.
Desirability:
Not a very sexy device (who cares); just a durable workhorse and that's what I needed.
Sound:
No frills, just two solid and predictable midi I/O's. Works reliably.
Support:
Just downloaded the most recent drivers from the website.. no problems there.
Overall:
I'm sure I will use this device for years to come. I would buy this device again, although I might go for the 4X4 or 8X8 for more I/O's.
