MIDISPORT 2x2 is a multi-port MIDI interface for USB-equipped PC and Apple computers. MIDISPORT's high-speed USB (Universal Serial Bus) connection to the computer assures reliable, immediate MIDI transfers. Installation is a breeze - no computer disassembly, no jumpers to set, no I/O Addresses, IRQs, or DMA channels to configure! USB (Universal Serial Bus) is a standard interface port on desktop and laptop computers. Nearly all recent PC computers provide USB ports, as well as the new Apple iMac and future Macintosh offerings. USB supports the connection of up to 127 devices simultaneously, any of which may be plugged into or unplugged from the USB bus at any time - even with the power on!
USB device installation requires no tools. Everything remains external to the computer and therefore no computer disassembly is required. The USB port is compact in size; it is therefore a "small miracle" for laptop and notebook computer users.

I've become a fan of MIDIMAN products recently, and this little wonder is no exception. It's a snap to install, and works beautifully. If all you need is a couple extra MIDI ports for your computer, this is the way to go.
There is only one limitation, however. Be aware that in "MIDI Thru" mode, the signal only goes through from Port A In to Port A Out, and from Port B In to Port B Out. I had expected the MIDI data to go through to both ports simultaneously (like on the 8x8 model)and was rather disappointed to discover it didn't. Doubly so since I found this out at a gig when I tried to play both my keyboards and WX5 Wind Controller through the same synth via a MidiSport 2x2. Whoops, THAT didn't work! Even with this slight setback, however, this is a top-notch MIDI interface for any USB equipped PC.
If you just need a couple extra MIDI ports, this could be the perfect solution. If you think you might need more ports in the future...you can always add more 2x2s (they coexist wonderfully). If you're like me, though, you might want to spend a little extra and go straight for the 8x8. I got two of the 2x2s before realizing I was (once again) in need of more ports, so I decided to get the Midisport 8x8 rather than build upon a towering stack of little lime boxes (check my review on the 8x8 too).
