2 analog ins and outs, 1 coaxial digital I/O, 1 MIDI I/O.

High end audio meets eye-catching design: the external FireWire system Phase 24 FW!

The TerraTec Phase 24 FW combines fine design and superior specs. Regardless of whether you're using the Phase 24 FW on the move with your notebook or at home with your PC or Mac -- this versatile audio system cuts a fine figure in any situation. Simply connect the high grade aluminum case to the FireWire port of your computer for fast, uncomplicated data exchange.

The required cables and adapters are included, of course. The two analog mono inputs and outputs have been realized as professional, balanced 1/4 in. jacks -- the studio standard simplifies the connection of additional equipment. DJs, for example, can create mixes on their laptops using applications such as the included Native Instruments Traktor, add an external beat box, insert effects between the Phase 24 FW and the computer, and control it all via a MIDI keyboard. The integrated digital hardware mixer ensures that all this happens nearly without any latencies at all. An additional stereo out can be used as a line out or adjustable headphone output.

You always have complete control over brilliant, full sound -- thanks to 24 Bit/192 kHz signal processing and a signal-to-noise ratio of 111 dB. The Phase 24 FW unites proven high-tech with innovative ideas and exclusive design into a harmonious whole. In the club or in the studio.

ASIO drivers are unable to cope with latency issues. Terratec support unavailable. Could not find a US phone number or even a FAQ for this fairly new product. In fact, I could not even find a link on the main terratec page at terratec.com for this product. Update to latest firmware and drivers did not resolve the issue. Wma drivers for an alternate low cost sound system actually performed BETTER than this device via any of its interface mechanisms, even with latency set to max (19.9ms). Test platform was WinXP sp1 on a very robust laptop system used for all our product testing. Looks like terratec needs to work out driver issues before recommending this product for professional use.

Sound
The spec sheet has nice SNR ~110db. Also has balanced outputs.

Features
This is really a minimalist solution for small gigs (ie laptop dj). Fits the application well with the exception of the lack of a preamp. 2 TRS inputs & 2 TRS outputs, 2x 6-pin firewire interface, 1 headphone jack (mind you with no amplification though it has what appears to be a volume knob that seems to be unfunctional), healthy output levels, coax spdif i/o, midi i/o

Quality
small and pretty, but wouldn't want to drop too many times.

Value
Low price in comparison to many other products, but the value/$$ is likely much lower than with a slightly more expensive product. This product is likely read more not a good solution for even a computer w/o a sound card as there isn't EAX / A3D support which is ideal for gaming. Certainly not for pro work.

Manufacturer Support
If you live in the US there appears to be no local support number. Also Terratec appears to charge around 1E.

The Wow Factor
You will not impress anyone.
