Add harmonies to your vocal with the TC-Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G XT. This vocal effects box tracks your guitar input, so it's always on the right chord.

If you're a guitarist and singer-songwriter -- or a vocalist who also plays guitar -- TC-Helicon's VoiceTone Harmony-G XT is the ideal vocal effects pedal for you. The VoiceTone Harmony-G XT "listens" to your voice and your analog guitar audio signal, analyzes them using advanced VoiceLive 2 technology, and generates vocal harmonies based on the notes or chords you're playing. All you need is a guitar and a microphone to start producing smooth vocal harmonies. And the Harmony-G XT has advanced algorithms which let you double your voice, and add reverb, delay, and uMod (thickening) effects to your vocals. This little effects box might just be the one thing that's missing from your live show.

The Vocal Effect that Listens to Your Guitar

Some vocal harmony processors generate harmonies based on your voice alone -- which doesn't always work. For example, if your harmony processor generates a major third, but you're strumming a minor chord, it won't sound so good. That's why the TC-Helicon Harmony-G XT has a guitar input. Rather than just blindly follow your voice, the Harmony-G XT follows your guitar chords. Play a chord in A minor, and the VoiceTone will double or harmonize your voice in that chord. The Harmony-G XT uses advanced technology found in the TC-Helicon VoiceLive vocal processors to determine your pitch and generate natural-sounding harmonies with no latency at all.

Just Plug In: 1/4" Guitar and XLR Mic Inputs

Nothing would be worse than having all this read more great harmonizing technology, and having to use proprietary guitar pickups or special microphones to complete your setup. TC-Helicon has created technology which is instantly accessible to anyone with a standard 1/4" guitar output guitar and XLR microphone cable. The back of the Harmony-G XT has dual XLR outputs for the processed stereo signal, which you can plug into the soudboard, and a pass-thru output for your guitar. There's also a USB port so you can back up and restore your presets, and stay up to date with any cool new firmware improvements that TC-Helicon makes.

Made for Vocalists

TC-Helicon focuses on the needs of vocalists. While many of their products support guitar inputs, the main purpose of everything they make is to support singers. The Harmony-G XT pedal is essentially a pared-down VoiceLive 2 processor. More than a harmonizing engine, it's got built-in reverbs -- for both your voice and your guitar. You also get four overdub-style doubling effects with multiple voices. And the harmonies are customizable: Take your harmonies a 5th or a 4th above your pitch, or follow the bass note. The TC-Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G XT lets you create your own presets on the fly.

Easy Harmony Generation

Harmony-G XT has a good ear for music. It listens to your performance and decides what harmony notes would sound best with your song. Connect your guitar and a mic, choose one of the presets, play guitar and sing. No special guitar pickups, pre-programming, or extensive musical knowledge are required in order to use Harmony-G XT.

Choose Your Sound

You're in control of a wide range of useful, exciting sounds. From a standing position you can switch through the five factory presets, each with a unique setting of effects, harmony and doubling and then choose the A or B effect within each preset. If you only need three presets or you want up to ten, this is configurable in Harmony-G XT.

You can edit the presets easily and store them as your personal combination. For example, the harmony voice interval range offers you an combination of two of the following including two of the same for added thickness:

- Higher and Low which center around a 5th above or 4th below
- High and Lower which center around a 3rd above or 6th below
- Bass, which sings the root of your guitar chord even if you're singing other notes
- Octave up and down

The "FX" for each preset can be selected as well. Each of the categories of Hall, Room, Echo, Slap, Combi and SFX has three alternates. These are more than just add-on effects! These are the real deal from VoiceLive 2 including combinations of reverb, delay and umod (micromod) that will put you and your harmony voices in a professional sounding, immersive space.

Overdub Live

In a recording you can layer your lead melody to create extra thickness. Live, it's not so easy. The Double button on Harmony-G XT activates a realistic, overdub style doubling effect on your voice that you can use alone or in tandem with the harmony voices. You have four options for doubling you can choose from:

- The default: 1 voice with tightest humanization
- 1 voice with looser, more natural humanization
- 2 tight voices
- 2 natural voices

Better Overall Tone

Don't let that simple-looking Tone button fool you. Beneath is a professional signal chain including:

- Adaptive Shape - a unique boom reduction and brightness enhancer
- Compression - smoothing peaks and gently raising low level detail
- De-ess - reduces harsh consonant sounds
- Adaptive gate - which can help reduce feedback while reducing harmonized chattering of instruments when you're not singing.

Once Tone is activated, it remains in effect when harmonies are on and off and even in Bypass so you can chat with your audience using the same great tone as when you sing.

Connect To Your Computer

Harmony-G XT has a USB connection and a free, included web applet called VoiceSupport which allows easy backup and restore of your presets to a computer, fast product registration and software updates, tips and tricks, and demo videos.

Intend to use this constantly. It improves my singing (I have to sing on key to get quality harmony) and it improves my guitar as well (can't bang around, need to play chords appropriately for proper harmony vocals). Great training tool that sounds good at a gig as well.

Sound
I use a Shure Beta87A and a Martin D-28 with an LRBaggs under saddle pickup. Using the Tone button, I find the output through the Helicon a bit more brassy than if I just go directly to an amp. However, it's easily handled with an equalizer. The quality of the effects is very good, especially since the effects aren't too heavy (you only need a little reverb, for example). The vocal harmonies are very realistic, singing off key when I sing off key (lol). I've used it in one performance since getting it and found it added the right amount of depth without sounding fake. It's the perfect vocal supplement, giving you good control over harmonies (just need some, not something to drown you out).

Features
Feature-rich box, allowing for a variety of configurations. In a gig setting, I played my guitar "through" the box into a separate channel on the board. Likewise, I ran a dual vocal setup, which pushed my vocal harmonies into a separate channel to be managed on the board.

Ease of Use
very easy to configure and use, just takes practice kicking in the harmonies at the right points of the song.

Quality read more
nice, steel box with durable switches. I doubt it will fail anytime soon.

Value
It's a very high value product. You wouldn't expect such rich tones from a $200 box. You could spend a lot more to get a higher grade vocal effects setup, but for a small time gigging guitarist that likes to sing, this does the trick.
