"Cobra Coil Creates a "Squawk""

Overall:
There is a slight difference in the feel of the Rolling Guide (RG) vs Power Glide (PG). Also, if you record using the exact same settings then listen closely, the PG packs a tiny bit more of a punch than the RG. Since Roland sold so many more PGs they now include the adjustable/removable "Cobra Coil" - a spring under the footboard for quicker return - as a standard feature on the RGs as an attempt to increase RG sales. For a double pedal I think that might be around a $60 value so might be worth it to go w the RGs. One thing to keep in mind, when you play sixteenth notes on the bass - like on the song Swing Town by Steve Miller - the footboard and Cobra Coil conflict a bit creating a "squawking" noise. I think that might be inherent in the new design.

News
Tama’s newest innovation, the “Cobra Coil”, accelerates return of the pedal footboard to its original position. The addition of Cobra Coil as a standard feature to our 2007 Rolling Glide pedals results in an unbelievably effortless action that sets the already smooth Rolling Glide apart from all other pedals―even our best-selling Power Glide. Power Glide off-set cam pedals are typically chosen by players who want a steady, powerful and speedy action. Flexi-Glide strap-drive models are favored by players desiring a traditional, light “floating” action with speed. The Rolling Glide is selected by players desiring the even, uniform response of a round cam.

2007 Iron Cobra models have more unique features than ever! All 2007 models boast upgrades and improvements including a new frame structure, improved connecting unit on the double pedals and more! Plus all 2007 pedal base-plates are retrofittable for the new Cobra Coil!

Tama’s 2007 Rolling Glide Models are exclusively standard-equipped with the new “Cobra Coil” fast-return spring for smoother, more fluid action. The Rolling Glide features a true round-shaped sprocket with a double chain for more durability, while still providing the smooth, uniform response of the traditional round cam.

Cobra Coil
Until now, the only way to adjust your beater stroke action was tighten the pedal spring. Sometimes that did the job. More often the action just felt sluggish and heavier. Tama’s latest innovation, the new Cobra Coil simply and easily solves the problem. A special steel spring quickly returns the footboard to its original position so the Iron Cobra feel becomes even more unreal. Even better, the Cobra Coil can be adjusted to different positions on the new 2007 Iron Cobra footboard base plate.

Cobra Pedal Housing
New Iron Cobra pedals come equipped with nylon insulators for the bearing housings inside the pedal frame. The insulators keep the bearings centered in place and secured in the most stable position. This ensures proper bearing support for the drive shaft without unnecessary stress. The end result of these new improvements is the smoothest pedal action possible.

Speedo-Ring
Tama eliminated another source of friction by replacing the traditional nylon rocker cam with the Speedo-Ring, a rocker cam with a high quality built-in ball bearing rocker.

Oiles Bearing Hinge
Iron Cobra footboards feature the same Oiles bearings used in the aerospace industry, not only providing even smoother action and durability than ball bearings, but also increasing Iron Cobra's stability by eliminating the annoying side-to-side motion found in many pedals.

Spring Tight
Twisting springs severely reduce pedal smoothness. Spring Tight, a clever half-moon shaped spring tension rod, keeps the spring from twisting so there's never any loss of power transmission.

Iron Cobra Beater
The Iron Cobra beater adjusts the beater head angle to guarantee a flat hit to the bass drum head every time, translating your strike into maximum power. In addition, it's easy to obtain different bass drum sounds simply by changing the beater head.

Vari-Pitch Holder
Vari-Pitch beater angle adjustments are completely independent of footboard angle. The Speedo-Ring allows you to adjust the angle of the footboard link independently of the beater angle. And with the combination of the Speedo-Ring and the Vari-Pitch, you can achieve any kind of stroke and also enjoy improved playability.

Para-Clamp II
Para-Clamp keeps your pedal flat on the floor no matter what your bass drum angle. The Para-Clamp is tightened from the side so you never have to insert your finger under the footboard. And since you can clamp your pedal to hoops up to 14mm (9/16") in thickness, Iron Cobra will fit just about any bass drum in the market.

Tight Lock
Tight Lock makes sure the beater shaft stays put. Tight Lock fixes and locks the square head bolt which fixes the beater shaft.

Pedal Anchor
To keep left-side double pedals from walking, a special stabilizer is mounted to the outside frame. This augments the stability of the floor anchor bolts.

Quick-Hook
Quick-Hook not only allows rapid spring attachment and reattachment for rapid set up and tear down, it also eliminates wobbling and allows maximum power transmission to the Speedo-Ring. And you never have to worry about it slipping off during performance.

Connecting Rod
The Aluminum made connecting rod has made the light weight and smooth adjustment possible. Instead of the screws fixing the inner rod directly, the small plate inside spread the pressure appropriately and tightens more securely without damaging the rod. Also the new design prevents the inner rod coming off from the outer while adjusting the length, which reduces the trouble during setup and teardown.

Carrying Cases
You know what pedals go through night after night. After being stomped on over and over, they get thrown in bags and roadcases where there's more hard rock and roll than the gig itself. That's why precision instruments like our Iron Cobras come with a specially designed protective carrying case.
Twin rolling glide pedal with Tama's new Cobra Coil that brings the pedal footboard back to its original position faster than ever! Smooth, effortless action. Even, uniform response.
