"Very Awesome unit. Thanks Roland!"

Feature:
EQ color gragpic displays (and all controlls on graphic display) on the 19'' Samsung Syncmaster 906bw LCD wide screen monitor(monitor purchased separately) are spectacular, and a great visual aid if you are having trouble seeing data on other digital equipment having small data entry screens. The stock LCD is also larger than most other, and easily readable. All the channel routing, recording, faders, is easy to see and route by drag and drop mouse. WOW! The motorised faders move when you adjust faders with the mouse. The R-Bus AES/EBU and ADAT,SMPTE, and other available interfacing lets you connect to other gear. Good connectibility and compatability with other professional equipment.

Quality:
An just for the record, you do not have all this mouse power or quality on the AKAI DPS24 MKII, (which I returned to a different dealer, DEFECTIVE HARD DRIVE AND CRASHING, and of poor quality, cheap plastics, poor fit and finish, and made in China Not) The Roland has quality feel, quality fit and finish, and audio quality on the VS 2480CD gets a 10 for the money. Again, The GUI Mouse interface combined with a large 19'' widescreen LCD,and new Roland's new software make the Roland VS 2480CD a truely excellent recording machine.

Value:
There isn't a better value. With a large LCD monitor on this unit you will easily master this machine, save alot of time, frustration, and make top quality pro recordings. Get all the optional effects cards if you have the money. Stuff it full. Keep it, and use it till it just wears out. I love it.

Desirability:
Seeing the unit in a catalog doesn't cut it. When you see and hear this recorder with the Graphic LCD and mouse functionality, you will want this unit. I guarantee you will love it and keep it. The sex appeal of seeing this unit with a good LCD and good Studio Reference Monitor speakers will blow you and your friends away.

Sound:
The sound quality of the Roland VS 2480 is supurb, period. It records crystal clear and is very powerful, yet easy to use with the VGA monitor and mouse, which can drag and drop, cut and paste. This is an extremely good product for the money. Eq gragpic displays on the 19'' Samsung Syncmaster 906bw LCD wide screen monitor

Ease of Use:
No other studio in a box has the drag and drop GUI mouse, and this really gets you through the recording process visually,on screen, for the most part, not needing the manual to research every button. The patch bay on the LCD 19'' monitor lets you drag the channel fader "virtual patch cord" to wherever you want to patch it. All effects and functions are available on the LDC with the mouse. WOW! The new software is awesome and powerful.

Support:
I called Roland when I was familiarizing myself with the unit and the Roland rep walked me step by step to troubleshoot the problem, and it was a different connected device, not the VS 2480CD. Good, immediate support. Pro Tools Plug ins and other third party plug ins shows Roland's and third party's support the VS2480CD format. Rock Solid.

Overall:
I don't intend to replace this unit unless, I eventually could afford to start spending $250,000 or more for a full blown corporate recording facility. With all the virtual tracks and 64 channel playback, who needs more that that?, seriously. Take some music lessons and improve your playing technique instead, and make pro recordings on a roland VS 2480CD.

"The Truth about the 2480"

Feature:
The software upgradable feature is the best feature in the 2480. Now with the latest software, you can use the 2480 as a control surface for your Protools, Digital Performer, Nuendo, etc!!! It's an "all in one" box for the semi-pro to pro users.

Quality:
It a great workhorse! I've used it for 8 hours one time, and It never gave me problems. Be sure that you format the hard drive after every big "project," or format every two to three months. This will lessen the problems, which is very very rare. This is what I like about this system. Unlike Protools or Digital Performer, you can expect to have rock hard reliability. Well Protools and DP3 are very stable, but compared to the 2480 it "not as" stable...my opinion

Value:
The best Value on the Market.

Desirability:
It makes me want to drowl. It's big and clean.

Sound:
It sound amazing. Just make sure that you use the M24 mode, to get uncompressed audio tracks. This will give you only 16 tracks to work with, but you'll know you'll get unpresidented quality. Actually the normal mode isn't that bad. With a good A/D/A converter unit connect to the Roland, the quality is the same as a Protools Mix System, Digital Performer 3 (or lower), Neundo, Sonar, etc.

Support:
The support team is amazing. The best in the business, I promise.

Overall:
Well, now you can use the 2480 as a control surface for just about every possible DAW out there: Protools, DP3,DP4, Nuendo, etc. I'm keeping this thing forever.

From Our Catalog
Roland is proud to announce its most powerful V-Studio in history: the VS-2480CD 24-Track Digital Studio Workstation. The VS-2480CD is a self-contained workstation that offers 24-track/24-bit digital recording with 64-channel automated mixing, built-in effects processing, and onboard CD burning. This revolutionary workstation also boasts motorized faders, comprehensive mouse-based control, and connections for an optional ASCII keyboard and an external VGA monitor, making it as fast and intuitive to use as a computer-based system - with the advantages of a rock-solid system designed expressly for audio production. Rock-solid hardware with the flexibility of software - that's the new VS-2480CD.

Features
Self-contained 24-track/24-bit/96kHz digital recording workstation with built-in CD-RW drive

80GB hard drive for unprecedented recording time

24-track playback; 16-track simultaneous recording with 384 V-Tracks

"Drag-and-drop" control using included mouse; also accepts ASCII keyboard (optional)

64-channel, fully automated digital mixer with 17 motorized faders

New! CD Capture function for importing audio and .WAV files

Dual R-BUS ports for expandable I/O in a variety of analog and digital formats; SMPTE and Word Clock input

VGA Video Output for intuitive, software-style editing with mouse

Following on the success of the VS-2480, the big news with the VS-2480CD is the addition of an internal CD-RW drive. This built-in slimline drive makes it easier than ever to back up data and burn music CDs. In addition to importing .wav files, the new CD Capture function lets users import audio directly from CD - even grabbing particular parts of a CD track. Thanks to some creative engineering, every VS-2480CD will come standard with an 80GB internal hard drive, providing more recording space than any other workstation on the market. This means that users can easily record an entire album - or more! - without having to worry about running out of disk space.

The VS-2480CD also comes with VS-2480 Version 2.0 software pre-installed. Version 2.0 can turn an external VGA monitor, sold separately, into the center of the VS-2480CD universe. It adds full onscreen mouse control of the VS-2480's 64-channel digital mixer, including the ability to set up EQ and dynamics processing curves or route signals by simply dragging the mouse. Version 2.0 also introduces full drag-and-drop track editing to the VS-2480 - including waveform-based editing - making it as easy to work with audio on the VS-2480 as it is on a computer-based DAW.

The VS-2480 offers the same great features as the immensely popular VS-2480, including 24-track playback, 24-bit/96kHz recording, 384 Virtual Tracks, and more. Users can record up to 16 tracks at once using a wide range of inputs, including 8 XLR and 16 balanced TRS inputs. Its 2 built-in stereo 24-bit effects processors provide everything from COSM Mic, Speaker and Guitar Amp Modeling to a Mastering Tool Kit - and the VS-2480CD is expandable to 8 stereo or 16 mono effects with optional VS8F-2 Effects Expansion Boards.

A built-in Phrase Sequencer with realtime playback lets users trigger or "fly-in" vocals in real time, or quickly sequence drum grooves. Thanks to Roland's high-quality R-BUS connectors, up to 16 channels of additional analog or digital I/O can be added. The VS-2480CD plays well with others, too: it has SMPTE and Word Clock inputs.
