Following on the success of the VS-2480, the big news with the VS-2480CD is the addition of an internal CD-RW drive. This built-in slimline drive makes it easier than ever to back up data and burn music CDs. In addition to importing .wav files, the new CD Capture function lets users import audio directly from CD - even grabbing particular parts of a CD track. Thanks to some creative engineering, every VS-2480CD will come standard with an 80GB internal hard drive, providing more recording space than any other workstation on the market. This means that users can easily record an entire album - or more! - without having to worry about running out of disk space.

The VS-2480CD also comes with VS-2480 Version 2.0 software pre-installed. Version 2.0 can turn an external VGA monitor, sold separately, into the center of the VS-2480CD universe. It adds full onscreen mouse control of the VS-2480's 64-channel digital mixer, including the ability to set up EQ and dynamics processing curves or route signals by simply dragging the mouse. Version 2.0 also introduces full drag-and-drop track editing to the VS-2480 - including waveform-based editing - making it as easy to work with audio on the VS-2480 as it is on a computer-based DAW.

The VS-2480 offers the same great features as the immensely popular VS-2480, including 24-track playback, 24-bit/96kHz recording, 384 Virtual Tracks, and more. Users can record up to 16 tracks at once using a wide range of inputs, including 8 XLR and 16 balanced TRS inputs. Its 2 built-in stereo 24-bit effects processors provide everything from COSM� Mic, Speaker and Guitar Amp Modeling to a Mastering Tool Kit - and the VS-2480CD is expandable to 8 stereo or 16 mono effects with optional VS8F-2 Effects Expansion Boards.

A built-in Phrase Sequencer with realtime playback lets users trigger or "fly-in" vocals in real time, or quickly sequence drum grooves. Thanks to Roland's high-quality R-BUS connectors, up to 16 channels of additional analog or digital I/O can be added. Sound: The sound of my recordings are better than what I hear from pro studio made CDs. I can't figure that one out! Feature: It is very powerful but a bit slow. If you want to speed a song up or down you have to let it process all night long. I do that just before I leave the studio. The mastering room is great. I bought protools just to master but I have yet to use it. I just wish it had more processing power (memory and speed for certain apps). Ease of Use: Very easy and quick to use. There is a steeper learning curve on anything that has alot of options and power. It would be nice to have more memory for effects. I have two boards synced so I can have more effects. If you use more powerful plugins they really eat up the memory. Also it's useful to have another eight XLR inputs. I use the heck out of it! Quality: No problems yet. very reliable. Just a high quality dependable tool!Too big to easily take it on the road although you could. Value: It is more than twice the price of other 24 track boards. I could not say if it is two times better because I've never used a comperable board. I went from a 16 track Fostex, which was good to get started with but does not compare at all in power and quality. Manufacturer Support: Could not be better. Try calling protools tech support. You will wait two hours. I have never waited at all with Roland. There people know their stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Wow Factor: Great looking board but bring back the meter bridge. The meter bridge is usefull when working in the mastering room. Plus the cool factor if nothing else! Overall: It is a great tool but I may go to ProTools for more effects and processing speed but may not because the tech support is a two hour wait. Just registering protool takes all day. I actually had my IT guy do it because I don't have enough patience to deal with that crap.

Sound: It sound amazing. Just make sure that you use the M24 mode, to get uncompressed audio tracks. This will give you only 16 tracks to work with, but you'll know you'll get unpresidented quality. Actually the normal mode isn't that bad. With a good A/D/A converter unit connect to the Roland, the quality is the same as a Protools Mix System, Digital Performer 3 (or lower), Neundo, Sonar, etc. Feature: The software upgradable feature is the best feature in the 2480. Now with the latest software, you can use the 2480 as a control surface for your Protools, Digital Performer, Nuendo, etc!!! It's an "all in one" box for the semi-pro to pro users. Quality: It a great workhorse! I've used it for 8 hours one time, and It never gave me problems. Be sure that you format the hard drive after every big "project," or format every two to three months. This will lessen the problems, which is very very rare. This is what I like about this system. Unlike Protools or Digital Performer, you can expect to have rock hard reliability. Well Protools and DP3 are very stable, but compared to the 2480 it "not as" stable...my opinion Value: The best Value on the Market. Manufacturer Support: The support team is amazing. The best in the business, I promise. The Wow Factor: It makes me want to drowl. It's big and clean. Overall: Well, now you can use the 2480 as a control surface for just about every possible DAW out there: Protools, DP3,DP4, Nuendo, etc. I'm keeping this thing forever.
