Roland TD6S V-Tour Electronic Drum Kit

No longer available at zZounds
Kick pedal NOT included.

The V-Drums V-Tour Series TD-6S takes Roland's most popular kit - the V-Club-- and turbocharges it. You now get a dual zone mesh snare pad, new gum rubber pads with dual-trigger capabilities (and much improved mounting hardware), an improved vertical kick trigger and more. The easy-to-use TD-6V module sports a sleek black look with a blue LCD, plus new kits and patterns - all at a great price.

The cymbals are a big improvement over the CY-6's and the stand is now the rugged V-Stage quality brushed silver version. All hardware is upgraded from the old V-Club. The new KD-8 stands upright and affords a super-playable gummy drum surface.

With 1024 drum and percussion sounds and all new patches and patterns, the TD-6V is even more fun than its predecessor.

Includes 1 PD-80R mesh V-Pad for snare drum, 4 PD-8 dual-trigger rubber pads for playing rim shots on toms and bow/edge sounds on hi-hat, as well as two "swinging" motion cymbals (yes, they choke) and the KD-8 kick (and double bass pedal compatibility). The new hihat pedal, the FD-8, is even more realistic than the old FD-7. Sound-wise, the Roland hi-hat technology smokes other pretenders. Why settle for a Tic Tac when you can have something that sounds like a Hi-hat

The sequencer plays full SMF files for jamming and practice. Practice is also facilitated with the audio in for play-along fun. Kick pedal not included.

I could see this unit lasting many years. I figure I may add some more pads over time by using the optional dual cables. Obviously the pricier sets with the mesh heads would be better, but they are WAY overpriced, especially if you are someone that just does this for fun. Great set overall, I recommend it.

Sound
Awesome sound quality, so many sounds to choose from. You can make it sound exactly like any acoustic set and sometimes I forget I'm not playing on one! Doesn't come with a headset - I would spend at least $50 for the headset for the best sound and comfort. Best of all, I can whale on this set at 1am and no one in the house knows the difference.

Features
Comes with pretty much all the features I could want for a complete drum set. I was hesitant at first about using a rubber pad for the hi-hat, but after using it, I am happy with it since it is the foot control that is most important, and that is very responsive. One feature that works poorly is the rim shots on the PD-8 Tom pads. The manual says you have to hit the rim AND the head at the same time to get a rim sound. I find that pretty tough, even when drumming slowly since if the stick slightly hits the head first, you get the head sound when you wanted a rim sound. In a nutshell, rim shots on the pads I am not happy with, however rim shots on the cymbals work fine. The only way I can see around this rim problem is to spend more and get additional pads, read more and assign your rim sounds to them so there are no missed sounds. It would be nice if it had a place to place a book so you can look at it easily. Or a little shelf might be nice for a laptop, the drum sticks, a drink etc. Also, it would be nice if this set came with a tiny amp enough so I could play it without a headset from time to time, as I get tired of wearing the headset for extended periods. Eventually you'll want to buy an amp to pay out loud so keep that in mind. Other things missing that you'll need to buy separately are the headset, kick pedal (buy a good one), drum throne (I recommend the bike seat - buy a good one as you get sore if you don't), drum sticks, and 1/4 to 1/8 headset adapter (the brain only accepts a 1/8 jack which is a pain because most quality headsets use 1/4 inch). Also get a 1/8 to 1/8 audio cable so you can play songs from your computer and drum to them. If you want to record to the computer you'll need a midi cable/adapter. In a nutshell, it would be nice if more of these things were included, but once I got them all, it worked out nice.

Quality
Everything is made very well. I see blemishes appearing on the rubber on the cymbals, but hey, acoustic sets get blemishes too. I can't see anything breaking, looks like it will last a long time.

Value
I compared this to the Yamaha which was the same price, and Roland was better quality. I still think $1400 for this drum set is too pricy, but if you love the drums you just do it. I'm glad I got this set.

Manufacturer Support
I called Roland once about the rim shot problem on the pads. They picked right up with no wait and helped immediately. Great support.

The Wow Factor
It looks nice and is not an eyesore sitting in the corner of the room. People are attracted to it.
