From Our Catalog
Developed simultaneously with the flagship RD-700SX, the RD-300SX provides the same stunning 88-note multi-sampled piano found in the flagship, plus 128 voice polyphonic performance, and expanded soundsets. Its feature set is pure heavyweight, but physically the RD-300SX is one of the lightest 88-note pianos in its class -- a comfort to transport from gig to gig.

Features
New stage piano with 88-key grand piano multisamples

Compact Progressive Hammer-Action keyboard

Lightweight and portable

128-voice polyphony

Onboard multi-effects with 78 algorithms and 2-band EQ with dedicated knobs

32 programable setups allow instant recall of custom settings

USB MIDI for easy connection to a PC or Mac

Easy splits and dual; master keyboard control

GM2-compatible sound engine onboard

No-compromise sound & feel
With Roland's most powerful sound engine at its core, the RD-300SX delivers heavyweight specs in a lightweight body. Sharing much in common with its high-end sibling, the RD-700SX, the RD-300SX offers 128-voice polyphony, 88-note individually sampled grand piano waveforms, and hundreds of additional sounds and rhythms -- from jazz to techno.

Compact Progressive Hammer-Action
The RD-300SX features Roland's Compact Progressive Hammer-Action keyboard, which simulates a real grand piano by providing a heavier touch in the lower octaves that gets increasingly lighter in the upper range. This keyboard has many of the same design elements as Roland's acclaimed Progressive Hammer-Action keyboard, but its keyboard-action mechanism is much more compact and lightweight.

Simple Navigation
Players will appreciate the RD-300SX's ease of operation and convenient hands-on controls. Dedicated buttons and knobs are provided for instant access to the piano sound, EQ settings, and dual/split keyboard setups. No searching through menus or submenus to find the most common functions; everything you need is within quick reach. Thanks to the handy Setup mode, you can quickly store and recall parameter changes with the touch of a button. A pitch bend/modulation lever has been added for expressive control. Operation is clean and streamlined so you can focus on playing, not programming.

High-quality effects
For subtle sweetening or complete transformation, the RD-300SX offers a wide lineup of 78 multi-effect types to choose from, plus independent effects such as reverb, 2-band digital EQ, and Sound Control. Add sparkle to your grand piano sound, deep-fry an electric piano, add depth and spatial movement to strings -- the choices are vast.

Lightweight, compact
It has an impressive, heavy-duty body (with sophisticated black brushed metal finish) but the RD-300SX is actually one of the lightest 88-note piano in its class. At less than 35 pounds (15.5kg), it's ultra easy to transport -- yet built tough enough for the rigors of the road.

USB MIDI
Connect the RD-300SX to computers via USB port for one-cable MIDI communication. Standard MIDI in/out ports connectors are provided as well. Master, slave, or solo -- the RD-300SX can be played as a standalone instrument, driven from other MIDI gear, or used as the master controller for an entire MIDI setup.

Roland RD300SX 88-Key Digital Piano Reviews

"If you take a keyboard with you to a gig, this is the best thing you can get."
Feature:
Sustain Pedal is included and owners manual is very well written. I would have liked a built in power supply , but I purchased a spare for around $50, in case I forget to bring mine to a gig.

Quality:
Roland stuff is bullet proof, I dont expect any problems.

Value:
This keyboard is a bargain for what it does and especially for what it weighs. I would buy it again without hesitation.

Desirability:
Looks great

Sound:
Great Piano and Rhodes sounds and Bass for Key Bass split keyboard function. 128 Note Polyphony eliminates note dropouts when using sustain pedal. I use my RD300SX with a Yamaha Motif ES Rack and have an unlimited number of sounds with a great keyboard action.

Support:
I have used Roland support before and they are alwayws very good.

Overall:
I am going to use this for a long time. This is the best and lightest keyboard I have seen to date.

"With a lower price could sweep the performance market."
Feature:
I am not aware of what is packaged with the unit although an expansion sound card of your choice would be a great incentive.

Quality:
Seems well made although only played it extensively in the store. Roland boards are typically well made.

Value:
The price for this item is more in line with the competition but in typical Roland fashion, still a bit high. They could really clean up were they to lower the price by $2-300 or offer some sort of expansion sound board in the package.

Desirability:
The weight of the actual unit and the feel of the keyboard are very attractive, particularly for the gigging musician who prefers a weighted board. Price is a bit high considering the relatively limited voice selection. The quality of the sounds in general has improved but there is still a somewhat limiting feeling when punching up some sounds. Electric basses have gotten better but still could use some help. Overall a nice board that could be a really hot deal at a lower price point (in more direct competition with the Yamaha SO8 for example). Granted the quality of some samples is superior to the SO8 but the SO8 still gives a great bang for the buck in terms of well rounded variety of staple sounds. The S90 qualitatively is more suited to compete sonically but at only a couple hundred dollars more, offers a huge amount of high quality sounds and performance-oriented inspiration. Roland deserves credit for its effort to pull their line back into the fray but still needs to consider a better pricing strategy and/or more extensive sound set to set the standard.

Sound:
Piano sound is about as good as it gets (bravo) although supplementary sounds are varied. If you have little or no need for bass sounds, these will certainly suffice and they are much better than previous Roland boards (XV88, JV series etc.). Organs and orchestral are fine overall. With memory chips at such low prices I am still shocked that manufacturers are not tossing in significantly higher memory capacities. Roland touts a gigabyte expandability. This is great! I'd think more in terms of onboard memory would be offered in the base unit.
