Owning a serious, gig-worthy digital piano shouldn't mean dropping a small fortune on a cumbersome behemoth, and getting a great deal on a professional instrument shouldn't mean sacrificing sound or playability. The Roland FP-4 is the perfect digital piano for the gigging player. It's got the tone and playability of a world-class grand piano, but it's light and compact enough to easily sling under one arm. Best of all, it's far less expensive that it looks and sounds!
An Authentic Piano-Playing Experience
Sporting Roland's finest digital piano engine and an immaculately engineered, 88-key weighted keyboard, the FP-4 feels and sounds like the real thing. The piano multi-samples on the FP-4 are taken directly from the legendary Roland RD-700SX, but you get to enjoy them at a fraction of the RD-700SX's price. The samples are rich, spacious, and long, with 128 note polyphony ensuring that every note you plays decays naturally whether you're playing quick arpeggios or somber chordal work. The full dynamic range is represented beautifully, too; a characteristic you'll appreciate even more when you lay your hands on the responsive PHA alpha II real-feel keys. These keys are not only perfectly weighted--substantial, yet quick and non-fatigue-inducing--but they feature a gently graded weight increase, from treble to bass, just like on an acoustic piano's keyboard. It's a subtle design feature that you might not even notice if you're used to a real piano. . . and that's exactly the point.
Fits Anywhere, Travels Everywhere
At only 33 pounds, and measuring only 53.68" x 12.2" x 5.4", the Roland FP-4 is one of the most compact and convenient digital pianos in its class. It's equally at home in small apartments, tiny dorms, project studios, cramped stages, and crowded classrooms. It's absolutely perfect for the professional or semi-professional gigging pianist who's living in a bustling metropolis, the choral leader who needs to be able to fit their instrument in the back seat of their coupe, the music student who shares university housing with three other roommates, or. . . well, anyone who needs an amazing sounding and playing instrument that they can easily transport. Adding to the portability factor is the FP-4's built-in speaker system. No lugging around a separate amp; the FP-4 is truly a self-contained instrument, and those speakers do ample justice to the keyboard's amazing sounds (for those bigger gigs, you can still run your FP-4 through an amp or the house PA, thanks to its 1/4" stereo outputs). And the FP-4 is ruggedly built, too. because why make a portable digital piano that can't withstand the rigors of transport? The Roland FP-4 boasts a burly steel chassis that still looks great--in white or black!
Like Carrying Around Your Own Orchestra
The digital piano sounds by themselves are impressive enough, but Roland wanted to make the FP-4 more than just a one trick pony. In addition to the piano sounds, you've got classic electric piano tones, blues organs, pipe organs, strings, percussion. . . 333 different sounds in all. Even better is the Session Partner feature. By providing 80 different accompaniment patterns--each with two variations--the FP-4 turns your solo gig into an impressive one-man-band outing. Session partner is also a great way to build up or keep up your improvisational chops. Playing with great musicians makes you a better player, and the FP-4's Session Partner feature is like having a seasoned rhythm section at your beck and call, whenever and wherever you need them. Should you choose to provide your own accompaniment, the FP-4 is outfitted with a pair of high-quality 1/4" inserts. Use them to route a CD, MP3, or sequencer through your FP-4's speakers. You can even route a second keyboard through your FP-4, making it the center of a multi-instrument rig, or making it easy to play with another keyboardist. . . because playing with other humans can be fun, too. A MIDI-over USB jack makes the FP-4 even more versatile, turning it into a dynamic and responsive controller for software synthesizers and virtual instruments.
Any great instrument becomes a great partner in your musical career, but not all partners are as multi-talented, reliable, or--let's be honest--good-looking as the Roland FP-4. It's a serious musician's digital piano, and at zZounds, it's a seriously great deal.
