Roland DTHD1 V-Drum Drum Tutorial Software Reviews

"Excellent for beginners, even better for people who want to learn new songs (as long as you can find an accurate MIDI)."
Feature:
Comes with a MIDI cable. Nice to have a backup, though the need for "advanced" button is weird to me.

Quality:
The interface is nice and simple. Very easy to use. It's never crashed for me.

Value:
I can download ANY MIDI file of any song and learn it. Some files are better than others and you might have to hunt for something the software converts to music, but overall it's pretty fantastic.

Desirability:
It's marketed as a beginner tool so it lacks any direct sex appeal.

Sound:
It plays MIDI files... which are... MIDI. Obviously there is a variety of good and bad composed MIDI files out there, but they're all still pretty terrible sounding compared to "real" audio.

Ease of Use:
Plug in MIDI cable, configure brain, download your favorite song in MIDI, Go! One note, I got lucky and had the MIDI cable "advanced" setting to off and it just worked. With it "on" the software doesn't register hits.

Support:
Haven't had to use real support, though the V-Drums forums helped me figure out that the HH NOTE# Border setting was causing my TD-12 not to trigger open high hat correctly in the software.

Overall:
Roland has definitely given a solid product. However, they really missed their chance to provide a "rockband-like" learning platform. This easily could have become a subscription model tool where they deliver daily drills, warmups, fills, or lessons. There is no online component. I do NOT doubt that someone will quickly release the same product with the abilities I mention and make a killing.
