"Pinnacle of pci sound capture and playback"

Feature:
The card is marketed as very flexible. This is true, although it should be pointed out that they are all optional extras, and don't come with the base card.

Quality:
Again, impeccable. This card has never failed in 2 years of regular use.

Value:
This is 3-4 times more expensive than some entry level prosumer cards. It is not 3-4 times better (that's not possible as prosumer cards are pretty good these days) but the upper 10% of quality is what you pay for here. That may not be worth it to some, but it was to me.

Desirability:
It is a hidden little workhorse. It sits in your pc and you don't fiddle with it. You don't show it off the clients. But it is the neumann of soundcards. The neve of preamps. The ssl of mixers.

Sound:
Impeccable. This card has superb A/D D/A converters. Whatever mic, pre and monitoring you use, this card will hold its own in the chain.

Ease of Use:
Rock solid drivers, set up pretty easy if you read the manual.

Support:
I contacted them about a mobo compatibililty issue and they got back to me the next day. Great. (And it was compatible!)

Overall:
This card, along with Lynx, represents the pinnacle of AD and DA sound capture/playback. So expect to pay for it. In keeping with RME's logical approach, the great thing is that you only buy those bits you need, so though its expensive, it becomes attainable. But don't buy it unless you're gonna buy a great mic, pre and monitors AND you're gonna treat your room. Really.

"Get serious"

Feature:
Total mix is useful feature. Card is reliable and works fine with Win XP pro SP1. Low latency (bellow 2ms on Athlon XP 2000+)I did encounter MIDI timing issue in SX2 (known as ignoreportfilter issue) that can be easily solved.

Quality:
RME is known by highest quality recording hardware and this card is no exception.

Value:
HDSP 9632 is expensive card but if you're serious about your music this is one of the best choices in this category. Consider buying good preamp because this class of recording gear demands high quality components in recording chain to get the best out of it.

Desirability:
No fancy intefaces , just card and cables:(

Sound:
Accurate, quiet natural sounding AD converters. Same as in ADI 2 pro standalone converter. I find it great for recording jazzy material.

Support:
Great support. My only problem with card was solved and question answered in less then 15 minutes thanks to the official RME newsgroup forum. Perhaps the best in the world of audio hardware companies

Overall:
This is great reliable piece of expandable recording hardware which gets studio work done. Deffinitely gear for serious musicians and mastering studios.I would not reccomend it for entertainment purposes beacause it won't work with every application (games in particulary).

Description

RME presents the world's most versatile PCI Audio Interface -- the Hammerfall DSP 9632. This card makes the dream of an All-In-One solution for every possible application come true. As usual, RME has not made any compromises: Latest 192 kHz AD- and DA-converters with more than 110 dB signal to noise ratio, all inputs and outputs simultaneously operational, easy-to-install optional hi-quality analog expansion boards, the famous TotalMix, a newly developed sensational clock section with maximum jitter suppression of external clock signals - all this combines into a 'soundcard' that the world has been waiting for so long.

An easy to handle ribbon cable connects the newly developed optional AI4S-192 and AO4S-192. These analog expansion boards having one bracket with 4 stereo TRS jacks offer the same performance as the on-board stereo analog I/O of the HDSP 9632: up to 192 Khz, balanced and 3 different reference levels. With this a maximum of 6 inputs and/or outputs can be achieved.

HDSP 9632 also supports the existing Expansion Boards (EXB). An internal ADAT input and an internal ADAT output allow for up to 14 analog inputs, 14 analog outputs, or the usage of a TDIF interface, directly inside the computer.

If you can THINK it, you can DO it with the HDSP9632!

Features:
Balanced* stereo analog in- and output, 192 kHz/24 bit, > 110 dB SNR

Optional analog expansion boards with 4 balanced in- or outputs

All analog I/Os capable of 192 kHz, constant number of available channels

1 ADAT digital I/O, supporting 96 kHz S/MUX operation

1 SPDIF digital I/O, 192 kHz-capable

1 Breakout cable for coaxial SPDIF*

Up to 16 I/Os can be used simultaneously!

1 Stereo headphone output, parallel to the analog out, additional level settings

1 MIDI I/O with 16 channels of hi-speed MIDI via breakout cable

TotalMix: 512-channel mixer with 40 bit internal resolution

* The HDSP 9632 ships in a basic version including two RCA/phono breakout cables (headphone: TRS jack). Therefore all analog I/Os and the SPDIF I/O are unbalanced. XLR breakout cables are available as an option (headphone: Neutrik TRS locking jack), turning analog and AES/EBU into balanced mode.

Included Software:
HDSP Meter Bridge: Scalable level meter with Peak- and RMS calculation in hardware

DIGICheck 3.0 for Windows: Spectral Analyser, professional level meter for 2, 8, or 16 channels, Vector Audio Scope, various other audio analysis tools.

Drivers: Windows 2000/XP (full multi-client operation of MME, GSIF and ASIO 2.0). Mac OS X drivers expected at the end of September 2003.

HDSP 9632 debuts SteadyClock, a newly developed clock technology, combining professional features like maximum jitter suppression at full varipitch capabilities and software controlled sample rates.

Settings Dialog
Just click on the hammer symbol in the systray of the taskbar and the settings dialog of the HDSP 9632 comes up. The clear structured, easy to understand window plus the unique informative status windows for input signal, clock mode and sample rate make your work with Hammerfall DSP to a real pleasure.

When working with several digital sources it is not only necessary to know if these are properly locked, but also if they are totally synchronized. RME's exclusive SyncCheck checks all input signals and displays their actual state, and thanks to their new Intelligent Clock Control concept you have all clocks and states under control - with ease.

The optional 9632 Word Clock Module provides a galvanically isolated word clock input and 2 word clock outputs via BNC jacks. Compared to the well-known DIGI96/8 series, the HDSP 9632 not only offers a further improved analog interface, but also all the features of the award-winning Hammerfall DSP series: All inputs and outputs simultaneously available, MIDI I/O and TotalMix, the DSP-based realtime mixer/router. Hardware updates through software and driver updates are risk-free thanks to the Secure BIOS Technology.

In short: The HDSP 9632 is the ultimate audio interface for PC or Mac, digital or analog.
