Feature:
There are not many features on the amp. Where is the stand-by switch??? Two channels and a boost switch, which is really no more than a 6db boost to the already harsh high frequency. Don't get me wrong, this is a great little amp. With a tube change ( I'm running an EH 12AX7 on V1, a Sovtek 12AX7LPS on V2, and the stock tube on V3. I haven't upgraded the EL84's) the top end smooths out and the bottom end has more umpf. With the pedals I use, the amp puts out nice sound and can even achieve a decent metal sound. (For all out metal buy the 5150)
Quality:
I've been inside the amp. It looks good and seems well built. A tube shield would be nice.
Value:
For the money, I don't think you can find a better, more well built and musical all tube amp. I think the amp would still be a good value at $650.00USD plus.
Desirability:
I have a tweed version and this is one good looking amp. With chrome shining, its ashame the control panel doesn't wrap around the front. I had to go out and buy tweed covered cables to match.
Sound:
Overall, the sound is quite good in the Peavey Classic 30. The lows are little muddy and the highs are a little harsh, but with some tweaking the shortcomings can be brought to a point of listening enjoyment. The harsh highs actually are a complement to the Telecaster I play. The muddy lows are easily adjusted with the eq controls. I use a boss overdrive and a metal zone pedal for effects. The distotion on the lead channel is a little lacking, the pre and post gains need to be up above 6 ro 7 for a good sound, and with out a master volume, the tubes cannot be pre-saturated for break-up at low volumes.
Ease of Use:
Come on, turn the dials and go. Adjust on the fly until you find your sound.
Support:
I have not dealt with customer support other than getting a schematic so I can instal a stand-by switch.
Overall:
This is a very good product. I intend to make a couple of modifications to the amp to better suit my tastes. Just a tweak here and there, stand-by switch, master volume, speaker change. Even with a $150 or $200 investment this will be a value. (Especially if you have exactly what you want when you are done.)
