Pearl P-3002D Eliminator Demon Drive Double Bass Drum Pedal

Ninja bearings, direct-drive design, and unparalleled adjustability meet in one set of double kick pedals for accurate, smooth, and versatile playability.

The best drum hardware is built to last. As a drummer, you'll change heads regularly, and you may even swap shells from time to time as your skill improves and your tastes change, but a good set of hardware can stick with you through several kits. That goes for the kick pedal too. You need a pedal that can stand up to your toughest grooves, yet has the flexibility to grow with you as your drumming style evolves. You need a Demon Drive.

Demons and Z-Links and Ninjas, Oh My!

Pearl's Eliminator bass pedals are well respected among drummers all over the world, and the Demon Drive aspires to even greater heights. The essence of the design is to create a direct link from your foot to the beater, providing tight responsiveness and spot-on control of the beat. Traditional chain- and belt-drive pedals have some lag when there's slack in the system, and drummers have had to work around it. Pearl's Demon Drive pedal, however, offers a direct drive due to the proprietary Z-Link technology. When you step on the foot plate, there's no delay, hesitation, or inconsistency in the response, just a clear, open line of communication from your foot all the way to the drumhead. You don't need to compensate for lag, so your blast beats are more precise and your syncopation is even funkier than ever! The P-3002D double-pedal offers Z-Link on both the master and the slave, so you have the same tight control with either foot.

The direct-drive action is key to a tight groove, but it's got to be read more smooth, too. Pearl chose Ninja bearings for the axle -- that's right, the same ones used in high-end professional skateboards -- to keep everything rolling smoothly along. Ninja bearings go through a special laser-driven micro-polishing process to cut down on friction and speed up your playing. In the Demon Drive, these spherical bearings are self-aligning to ensure the foot plate and the drive mechanism are always on track, even when your foot is off-axis (if only you could get the bass player to compensate like that). The P-3002D's machined aluminum shaft provides flex-free energy transfer so the action on your left foot is as silky-smooth as the action on your right.

Rolls with the Changes

For most young drummers, speed and power is king, and the unholy quest for BPM is in high gear. Time goes by, cartilage wears thin, and creaky-kneed old-timers develop a penchant for finesse playing (no, really, I don't need to play that fast, this groove is tastier). The feel-good pedal of the year, Pearl's Demon Drive has something for everybody. For starters, the direct link is adjustable, letting you switch-up your angle of attack to suit your style. Set it to the rear for extra power and a harder stroke, or slide it forward for more refined, intricate beats. Additionally, both foot pedals are adjustable from longboard to shortboard format. Choose whichever method is most comfortable for you, and take comfort in knowing you can always switch it around. Finally, Pearl understands that most drummers are a little persnickety about getting their kit set just-so. Some players have the wide stance, while others prefer to get up close and personal with the snare. The P-3002D has an adjustable connecting shaft and zero-latency U-joints, so you're free to lay out the pedals wherever you want, knowing the rock-solid performance is right there with you.

I don't see having to replace this any time in the foreseeable future. I may if some significant new jump in pedal technology comes out, but this thing is just too versatile to ever fail anyone.

Sound
This thing is utterly silent... thus a perfect 10 in sound!

Features
This pedal is the most adjustable pedal on the market; the only thing they could have done better is include the wood beaters as well which retail separately for around $50 apiece.

Ease of Use
I took this right out of the box, and hooked it up to my electronic drum set in my apartment. The factory settings were perfect; I could instantly and effortlessly play any double bass pattern I'd ever tried before; having been an Iron Cobra Flexi-Glide player for years I was scared of the transition, but it was seamless. This pedal feels amazing.

Quality
This pedal is perfect, quality-wise. I would expect no less out of a $650 investment, though, and I think Pearl knows that so they really deliver. One thing though that really sets this apart from most other double pedals on the market is that you can take it and with some minor adjustments, turn it into two separate single pedals for if and when you switch between one and two bass drums. The DW and Tama competitors do not allow this; they force you to buy additional pedals, meaning even though this is slightly more expensive, it could actually read more be cheaper in the long run.

Value
Again, 8/10 on the value because I had to buy the wood beaters separately, whereas Tama has the foresight to include wood AND rubber beaters with their Iron Cobras.

Manufacturer Support
I give this a 10/10 on support because though I've only had it for a month, I don't EVER expect to have to contact anybody for any help with this pedal. Pearl = quality, and this pedal is built to last.

The Wow Factor
This thing is sexy as hell... sleek silver and orange finish, and it says "Demon" on it, which just looks awesome.
