The G2 Concept
In 1998 Clavia introduced the Nord Modular synthesizer. The award-winning Nord Modular system is based on the traditional analog patch synthesizer. Create your own synthesizers from scratch on a computer screen by connecting virtual modules with virtual cables.

The G2 provides a wide spectrum of modules spanning from traditional synthesizer building blocks such as oscillators, filters and envelope generators to modern effects processors plus an array of special purpose modules. This powerful tool enables you to create totally unique sounds and also use it as a traditional synthesizer.

Since the start of Clavia in 1983 they have always strived to make it easier for musicians to create. Clavia's ambition springs from a belief that technology alone cannot make good music, but it provides great means to support creative music making.

Although the G2 is a very complex instrument, they don't compromise on simplicity. Technical complexity is essential to the musical possibilities. Simplicity demands a well thought-out user interface -- unctional in a simple way, yet technically fulfilled.

Live Performance
Whether you want to play traditional synth patches or control step sequencers in real-time or make cool sounds with delays, reverb and audio processing, the G2 offers plenty of knobs and controllers to tweak! Talk about sequencing - tweaking a step sequencer will be a lot of fun and extremely easy thanks to the real-time editing controls and the visual feedback from the LCD's. The fantastic Morph capabilities on the G2 offer enormous sonic variations. The G2's 8 Morph Groups per patch let you control sets of parameters from single internal control sources - and via MIDI. In fact, the Pitch Stick on the G2 can also be used to control an entire Morph Group!

Four analog Audio inputs including an XLR mic input with built-in amplifier give you plenty of room for inserting external signals and patch them! For example, you could plug in four external audio sources (or two stereo if you like) and mix and process the audio through various FX modules of the G2. Or plug in a microphone in the XLR input and use the great Vocoder module for vocal adventures. The crystal clear 24-bit, 96 kHz A/D and D/A converters on the G2 ensure highest possible audio quality!

"Nord Modular G2 Engine over the keyboard version, buy a voice expansion board and spend the rest of the money on you woman or so"

Sound: amazing, if u enjoy electronic/minimalistic, also does great vangel type pads/scapes.... just buy the engine version and a voice expansion board and a midi controller keyboard with some knobs, and blow the rest of the money you would of spend on the NMG2X on some c*cain Feature: well, its build is heavy duty, but the pitch stick is not meant to be f*cked with by hard playing types. it is very sensitive and you only need 2 f*ck with it a little to get just the right vibrato Quality: Clavia's nord products are great, they use top quality boards for there keyboards, and the electronics inside them is military grade sh*t (spec) Value: I graded the value a little lower because I think that the engine version with the voice expansion board is worth the money, but the keyboard is allot more than the engine price wise and I think the engine holds it's value better than the keyboard versions G2, think about it..... break a key on the G2 keyboard, the price for shipping that bad boy is allot trust me... but the engine has no keys, just plug in a cheapo midi board and snap those keys off on stage and throw them at the p*ssed off crowd of people Manufacturer Support: email support from these sweden guys is a bit lag, but remember Clavia is a small company with not very many people to answer all of our bullsh*t questions...... but they always support OS updates like there life depends on it (and it does) Overall: if it was lost, stolen or destroyed I would for sure buy a new one (engine) great as a midi sequencer once you know how to use it with other midi gear/computers. the sound is just amazing in my opinion real time effects are great but nothing you have not heard before, exept the delays are f*cking great! lfo can be cranked up really high and fast! dont buy it if your a preset pusher, as this synths is far beyond a preset pushers knowledge period! I only wish it had a midi soft throu, that would be nice.... (oh, you can program that to I suppose?)

Sound: Super sounds!!! Very flexible synth. You can literally make any sound that you want to with it. Very warm and fat. Feature: One of the most useful features that I have found is the ability to tweak a single patch or sound and store up to 8 variations of that patch without taking up additional patch/program slots. This is really cool. Suppose you have a patch that you really like but you want to add a little reverb reverb. You add it, like it and then store it as a 2nd version all within the same patch designation. Add some filtering, store it in position 3. Tweak the osicaltors. Position 4. Add delay, Positon 5. This is so handy to have. Any other synth, it would be taking up another program slot. Quality: This is a Clavia Nord synth. which means it is built like a rock. All metal. No plastic. The knobs feel great and are of high quality. I love the LEDs that surround all of the knobs. This is a very well built synth with a great deal of quality and thought put into all aspects of it. Value: You get what you pay for. This is a quality well built synth so it is worth the money. It is slightly higher then some others but within the price range of what it does, it is averaged priced. Clavia holds their value well too. It won't depreciate quickly. Manufacturer Support: I haven't had any actual dealings with Clavia, simply because the unit has functioned fine since I bought it. As I would expect it to do, since it is built with quality in mind. But judging them by there website and the vast amount of information that they provide you, I would expect all aspects of their customer service to be of the same high quality. I give them a 10 for that. The Wow Factor: I presently cut alot of gear out of my base of equipment. I had a otn of stuff and wanted to cut back to just 6 to 8 keyboards. this made the cut where others didn't. Doesn't tell you much does it? What might matter more is that I kept it instead of any of the following; Access Kb, Novation K Station, Juno 106, Juno 60, Korg MS-20, Korg PolySix, Jupiter 6, Oberhiem Matrix 12, Korg Karma, Triton Rack, Alesis A6. These are all big name synths that are held in high esteem by many. The fact that I kept the G2 instead of any of these tells you a lot. Overall: I expect to be satisfied for years to come. I am not expecting to get rid of it at all. This thing can't get old since you can build anything at all you want with it.
