Sound: well, it's a bass pedal so the sound is about what you expect except for the fact that the direct drive and overall construction of the pedal make it silent, smooth and silent--at least for now because it's brand new. Feature: this is a very nice double-bass pedal. it doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles--just a nice, well thought out gig bag and a really sweet drum key (seriously, this is going to be my "main key.") the beater heads have replaceable weights but it only came with 1 set so I guess the others ones would have to be purchased. It would make sense to me to include the weights so the user can test them without having to buy them. Ease of Use: I'm not a veteran double-bass pedal user but this went together without instructions and, as far as I know, the only adjustment is for spring tension which is very easy to do w/out tools. I appreciate the offset clamping mechanism which makes it a little easier to attach and detach it from the drum. Quality: Mine is new but it seems built to withstand heavy use. The build quality, finish, etc. seems really good. Again, this pedal is so smooth, quiet and, although i'm no speed demon yet, it feels plenty fast. One design feature which separates this from others that I've looked at is that they have added small bridge bars between the uprights on each pedal--this just seemed like a good idea to make it sturdy. The pedal base plates are nice and chunky steel plate. They aren't wide platforms but the weight of them seems to keep them pretty stable once they are attached to a drum. Value: I think Mapex hit this one just right--this one seems to hit a sweet spot in price for double-pedals. I spent quite a bit of time at you-know-where testing different pedals and this one seems to have the professional feel of the higher end models at a really attractive price point. I'm not a professional gigging drummer but I didn't want to bring something home that I wasn't going to enjoy playing. Manufacturer Support: I have not used Mapex support--I'll give them a 6 because I didn't receive a manual. It's not rocket science but I think a simple assembly/adjustment sheet would be a good addition. The Wow Factor: I don't really care what a bass pedal looks like but this one is very nice looking! The design is simple and clean--direct drive, nice looking castings for the pedals and uprights, and most of the hardware--including the springs--are a nice glossy black. Overall: Like I said, I'm not a professional, gigging musician but I was looking for a double-pedal that I wouldn't need to replace any time soon, something that I would enjoy playing and wouldn't feel limited by (in terms of speed and technique) that was built well enough for a lifetime of casual playing. I haven't had enough time yet to claim that it will last forever but it seems to be built at least as good as the TAMA pedal that I have had for over 10 years. BTW: Thanks ZZOUNDS for delivering my pre-order ahead of schedule!!
