Line 6 StageSource L3m 3-Way Loudspeaker

The Line 6 StageSource L3m is a high-performance digitally networkable PA system featuring a 1,400 Watt 3-way, tri-amped speaker system with Smart Speaker Modes and a scalable, multi-function design. Flexible analog inputs with 12-band feedback suppressor plus digital networking via L6 LINK allows you to link to multi-speaker PA systems.

The StageSource L3m delivers the same power and technology as the L3t -- including intelligent Smart Speaker modes and L6 LINK digital networking -- minus the built-in two-channel mixer. The "m" in L3m stands for mono.

Six Smart Speaker DSP Modes

StageSource L3m is designed to be the world's most versatile loudspeaker system for musicians. Using six powerful DSP-based Smart Speaker modes, StageSource L3m optimizes its output for a variety of performance scenarios including front-of-house PA, floor monitor, personal PA, keyboard backline, acoustic guitar backline, or with a Line 6 POD multi-effects processor as a high-performance electric guitar speaker system. Onboard accelerometer and pole mount sensors automatically detect the speaker's orientation and set the Smart Speaker mode accordingly, or the speaker mode can be set manually on the rear control panel.

When used in a backline configuration (keyboard, acoustic guitar, or electric guitar), the L3m speaker activates the Virtual Tilt Back mode. Virtual Tilt Back optimizes the speaker's tuning to achieve an upward tilt to its main axis and aim the sound towards the performer.

Reference and PA mode This mode is for live sound reinforcement and features a flat frequency response, a 2.2 kHz crossover frequency, and maximum low frequency extension. This mode is optimal whether your cabinet is mounted on a tripod, on stage, or installed as part of a larger multi-component system.

Playback mode Optimized for prerecorded music. Functionally, Playback mode is similar to P.A. mode but includes an EQ curve that emphasizes extreme low and high frequencies, making it well-suited for playing back music from a CD or MP3 player, or for DJ applications.

Floor Monitor mode Automatically activated when the onboard accelerometer detects the unit is in a horizontal position (you can manually override this setting). This mode provides a slight reduction in low frequency content to counteract coupling when the speaker is placed horizontally on the stage. StageSource loudspeakers offer two built-in solutions for 30- and 60-degree monitoring angles achieved via dual integrated kickstands and a robust, retractable handle. When the speaker is in use, kickstands and handle lock into secure, rattle-free positions.

Keyboard mode Optimizes the L3m for use as backline amplification for a keyboard rig This mode features a flat frequency response with a 3.5 kHz crossover frequency, adding more relative energy to the cone and providing a warmer response.

Electric Guitar mode Built to accommodate the modern guitarist who uses a multi-effects floorboard device such as the Line 6 POD. Rather than sending the signal from the guitarist's floorboard to an amplifier and then putting a microphone on the amp, this L3m mode features an overall frequency response that emulates the sound of a 212 combo amp. The L3m's dual 10-inch speakers play full range, with the horn adding only the smallest amount of sparkle to the sound. Users of the Line 6 POD HD500 or POD HD Pro can plug directly into the L3m's L6 LINK input on the control panel for digital audio and logic integration.

Acoustic Guitar mode Designed to provide a warm and balanced full-range amplification experience for acoustic instruments. This mode also features a 3.5 kHz crossover frequency, with a custom-tailored low-frequency response to minimize boominess than can occur when amplifying acoustic instruments.

StageSource L3m offers another benefit for acoustic performers: acoustic guitar modeling. Most acoustic-electric guitars utilize a piezo pickup that captures string vibrations but typically does not convey the resonance of the guitar's body. The acoustic modeling feature of the L3m, based on Line 6's Variax Acoustic technology, supplements the piezo signal with a physical model of an acoustic guitar's natural body resonance. The combination of the 3-way loudspeaker, acoustic modeling, and feedback suppression make the L3m a powerful live sound solution for acoustic musicians.

Powerful 1,400-watt, 3-way design

The 1,400-watt, 3-way, tri-amped speaker system and a dual-braced tour-grade plywood enclosure combine to deliver astounding power and reliability. The innovative multi-function design enables the L3m to be the perfect loudspeaker in a wide variety of applications including floor or stage-stacked, pole-mounted, horizontal as a floor monitor, virtual tilt-back for instrument backline, or flown with the integrated M10 suspension points for installation.

The electro-acoustic configuration of the L3m, combined with its powerful DSP implementation, provide a unique platform to adapt and optimize the loudspeaker's performance for a variety of applications. Using Smart Speaker Modes, the system enables the fine adjustment of crossover points, component levels, and dynamic control, ensuring the L3m performs optimally across all applications.

The design of the L3m reflects years of research and has multiple benefits over a traditional two-way 12-inch woofer and horn design. In the L3m, one 10-inch driver is optimized for low to mid-frequencies, delivering maximum detail and performance where needed. The combined radiating surface area of two 10-inch drivers is nearly 40% greater than a single 12-inch resulting in a more dynamic low frequency transient response. The lighter cone and mass of 10-inch drivers also result in faster overall transient response.

With the 10-inch drivers handling more of the critical vocal range, the output is incredibly smooth, musical, and natural throughout the spectrum. The 10-inch drivers in the L3m has a greater mid-high frequency range than a typical 12-inch speaker, permitting a higher crossover point to the high frequency driver. Finally, a dual 10-inch driver design improves thermal management, as heat is now dissipated from two voice coils rather than one, resulting in high performance durability.

A precision-engineered 100x50-degree constant-directivity waveguide delivers coverage throughout its entire frequency range ensuring everyone in the audience gets the same acoustic experience. The 100 degree horizontal dispersion is wide enough for solo use yet controlled enough for arrayed pairs. The 50 degree vertical coverage reduces acoustic smear from reflective sound surfaces, as minimal energy is reflected off of ceilings and floors.

Integrated feedback suppression and limiting

Because feedback and unwanted distortion can ruin a performance, StageSource L3m uses intelligent 12-band feedback suppression and limiting to identify the problem frequencies and adjust levels without affecting the overall sound.

L3m feedback suppression continuously analyzing the audio signal, identifying frequencies that have the characteristics of feedback (steady frequencies with few overtones, rising in amplitude), and then applies a narrow notch filter to remove the offending frequency. Up to 12 independent feedback frequencies can be removed with the L3m's feedback suppression.

The feedback analyzer can be set to one of three modes, depending on how aggressively the analyzer will seek out potential feedback frequencies.

Fast networking via L6 LINK

For bands, live sound events, or houses of worship, setting up a multi-speaker PA just got much easier. In live sound situations where two or more speakers are needed, StageSource products use a proprietary digital networking protocol called L6 LINK to simplify setup. Loudspeakers will automatically self-configure, pan stereo signals, adjust Smart Speaker modes, and perform system-wide optimization. Add StageSource L3s subwoofers to the mix and the system automatically sends summed signals and sets the crossovers.

If you want to take your live setup even further, connect your StageSource speakers to the StageScape M20d smart mixing system via L6 LINK to form a complete, networked live sound system capable of unparalleled power and flexibility. Together they redefine the typical mixer-speaker paradigm and create an intelligent live sound eco-system rather than merely a linear combination of components.

Multi-function design and scalability

Multi-function design combined with powerful Smart Speaker modes and digital networking provides true scalability whether you're using a single L3m as a standalone PA or multiple L3m speakers for use as mains, monitors and backline. Together with StageSource L3s subwoofers, a variety of configurations are available to meet whatever live sound or installation needs you may have.

Rugged construction

Designed to give years of reliable service, StageSource L3m features heavy-duty plywood construction, durable fitments, and a strong steel grill with protective screen backing.

Polypropylene end caps provide additional handling locations and add protection. For install applications, StageSource L3m features four M10 suspension points plus an M10 pull-back.
