The Floyd Rose licensed double-locking tremolo system by Graph Tech, high-gain humbucking pickups and lightning-fast fretboard combine to make JTV-89F the perfect instrument for players of heavier, high-gain styles.

The Floyd Rose(R) licensed double-locking tremolo system by Graph Tech is designed for rock-solid stability in any alternate down tuning--and with any instrument. With JTV-89F, you can use extreme whammy bar techniques with classic electric guitars and exotic instruments like sitar--which would otherwise be impossible without heavy mods. The custom-designed bridge includes built-in piezo crystals that flawlessly translate the Variax guitar tone and dynamics. The precision piezos are housed inside a set of Graph Tech String Saver(TM) saddles, which are highly resistant to rust, corrosion or perspiration--ideal for sweat-stained stages and beer-soaked venues.

Imagine going from Standard tuning to Drop Bb in an instant--without interrupting your recording session or sacrificing an ounce of playability. JTV-89F lets you go lower than guitars have gone before, without worrying about pitchiness or slack strings. You can mix and match any tuning with any instrument--and also create your own tunings on the fly with Virtual Capo. It's easy to save your custom read more tunings, either to the open Model slot on the Alt Tune knob, or to one of the other alternate tuning slots. read less

For starters, kudos to zZounds.com... I ordered this blood red JTV89F last Wednesday afternoon and it was in my hands by mid-day on Thursday. Very well packed promptly shipped. The guitar was marked as a "blem", but I'll be damned if I could find so much as a fingerprint on it. Physically it's flawless. As for the guitar itself, if you ignore the Line-6 modeling, you're still holding a seriously great axe. The workmanship is absolutely first class, solid with a beautiful finish from head to toe. The fret board is quite flat and plays quite nicely. If I had to describe it in a single word, I'd say it's "fast." The GraphTech locking trem system is just what you'd expect from a Floyd-Rose design... once the strings are stretched and tuned, it stays in tune despite string-luffing dives. The magnetic pickups are above average humbuckers, with the bridge position sounding a little hotter to me. Plenty of output if you want it, but with a nice clean sound as well. Now, plug in and bring the modeling into play. With a single knob you can get the essence of a Tele, Strat, Les Paul, Rick, ES, Acoustic, Banjo, Sitar and several variations of each. Are the sounds perfect? well, no... but they're pretty good, especially if used in context with other instruments. In a mix, yeah... that's a Rick 12 string and suddenly it's the neck pickup on a vintage Tele! Solo time? Dial up a Les Paul, or just turn the modeling off and enjoy the magnetic pickups. The only problem I have with this guitar is read more having to wipe off the drool whenever my friends play it.

Musical Background:
Playing guitar poorly for 54 years, in clubs, on tour, around a camp fire, etc.

Musical Style:
Rock, Folk, Grateful Dead-ish, funk, whatever else strikes my mood.
