The recipe for one great gig after another, night after night, HD400 features an array of necessary ins, outs and hardware including two NL4M-series Speakon speaker outputs, a balanced XLR direct output with exclusive A.I.R. processing, a 1/4 in. preamp output, FBV jack and rock-solid construction specifically designed to withstand the rigors of the road.

5 Incredible Bass Amp Models: Clean, R&B, Rock, Brit, and Grind

5 essential bass effects: dedicated studio-grade Compressor plus 3 Smart Control FX including Envelope Filter, Octaver and Chorus, and a fully adjustable bass Synth

Deep switch for supreme fatness

4 programmable channel memories, 36 with FBV Shortboard

Amp Models
Clean: Inspired by* the Eden Traveler, this model is all about clean, funk and fusion bass tone. It'll give you all the warm lows and punchy highs you need

R&B: Inspired by* the '68 B-15 Flip Top, this model is a tribute to those late 60s and early 70s clean, fat bass tones. It is the kind of tone you hear on most Motown recordings, as played by a pioneering young bassist, James Jamerson.

Rock: This model is inspired by* a classic of the genre, the '74 Ampeg SVT, which has appeared on innumerable recordings and arena stages worldwide. Now, all the tone of the head and 300-pound behemoth 8x10 cab is available without having to lookup a chiropractor.

Brit: Based on a '68 Marshall Super Bass, this model delivers the kind of overdriven bass sounds of late '60s British rock pioneers like Cream and The Who.

Grind: As the name would suggest, this is for modern rock lovers-Alice in Chains to Mudvayne and Rage Against The Machine. Based on* a distorted SansAmp PSA-1 into an SVT with a direct clean bass signal mixed in, this model gives you that angry, clear and punchy aggression that cuts through the mix and takes your sound to DEFCON 1.

Effects Models
Compressor: This pro LA-2A-style compressor is ideal for every bass player and particularly useful for the ones who play with their fingers-achieve a smooth and consistent signal at any volume.

Envelope filter: Based on* a Q-Tron, this is the baddest envelope filter on the planet. This effect can be heard on tons of major funk and rock tunes.

Octaver: Based on* the EBS OctaBass, this effect produces a single note one octave below the note you're playing to add a powerful new vibe to your sound.

Chorus: Based on* the much loved T.C. Electronic Chorus. This is the most transparent, smooth and expressive chorus ever built for bass-and using it won't reduce your low end. It's especially beautiful with fretless basses.

Synth: Sitting at the back of the model knob is this secret weapon that turns LowDown into a '70s classic bass synth. From funk to modern rock, this fully adjustable synth delivers incredible tones while tracking every dynamic move you make!

Sound: First off I have been playing bass for 28 years. I have played Eden, Ampeg, Mesa/Boogie 400+, Fender etc. The setting are real good on this amp. You might have to tinker with it to get your sound but it isn't hard. It gets more then loud enough for any gig. The Chorus is my favorate effect but the distortion is good too. I compared the sound of the chorus with my Boss CEB-3 Chorus Pedal and the sound was real close. Feature: This amp is not a one trick pony. There are plenty of great sounds. This amp is more bang for the buck. Ease of Use: This amp was not hard to troubleshoot and get a good sound out of at all. Go check out Line 6's Website. They have some really good presets on it. Quality: This product is built like a tank and looks great. I have had gigged with it for 7 months. No problems. Value: The price on this amp does not do it any justice. If you are on a budget and need a amp in the $300-$750 range this is your amp. Manufacturer Support: I have never had to deal with the company. I have not had any problems. The Wow Factor: This amp looks great.

"Jack of All Trades and Master of All too"
Sound: I will characterize the sound as "anything you want it to be" If you play in acover band at all this amp is great, you can play things like AIC & Velevet Revolver in one setting, Elvis Costello & Motown in another, Audio Slave/Mastodon in yet another, Iron Maiden, Rush, the possibilities are many. Some sounds are better than others, in some settings it can be noisy at low levels and you'll want to mute it, or turn your bass volume down when not playing. The "Synth" mode, I haven't figured out what to do with it yet, not a big fan of it. The grind setting has the fattest low end I've heard of any bass overdrive/distortion they did a nice job of blending a clean signal in with it to thicken it up. I have always been a pbass player (EMG selects) and at no time does this amp sound muddy or unclear with it. Feature: The amp itself really is an accessory, there isn't much you can't do with it. The filter, octaver, and chorus all sound great and track very well. The four presets aren't enough but there is a pedal for that. A foot switch for the presets would make this amp perfect. Ease of Use: Could be just me not reading the owner's manual thoroughly enough but the EQ knobs seem to do wierd things when playing in preset channels for example, the overdrive knob seems to clean up some of the dirt in the rock channel and the high/low mid knobs can do some wonky things too. Quality: Nothing loose, nothing has broken yet after several gigs. Value: For the price, you cannot beat it. I can't think of another amp in the $300 - $500 range that does whaat this thing can do. Manufacturer Support: Have not had to deal with them yet. Their website appears to be helpful with downloads, discussion forums, etc. The Wow Factor: The first thing anyone says when they see it is "Man that thing looks cool" and it does.
