Coil-tapping option Splits humbucking pickups into single-coils
EMG SA pickups Focused and precise tone with great attack
EMG 81 TW pickup in the bridge Aggressive, focused tone; great midrange presence
Floyd Rose locking tremolo Stays in tune through dive bombs or light vibratos

The Kramer SM-1's sleek, Mahogany neck through body features a 25.5 inch scale, 24 fret playground topped with an Ebony fingerboard. Its recessed Floyd Rose provides solid reliability for the most aggressive dives and pulls while firing through an assortment of pickups.

EMG Version

The EMG version has 81TW (bridge) and 2 EMG SA (middle, neck) pickups. The EMG's are controlled by 1 volume, 1 tone and a 5-way position selector, but that's not all. The Kramer SM-1 features a unique push/pull feature on the volume control that will engage the bridge pickup in any of the 5-way's positions. Combine this and the mini-toggle coil tap switch and a world of tones are at your fingertips!

I wasn't totally sure about buying a Kramer, knowing they were owned by Gibson. I remember this brand from the 80's, and they seemed like good shred machines, but nothing prepared me for the guitar I received. The Kramer SM-1 is a shred monster! I ordered the EMG version, and have never looked backed. Even my other guitar (which has EMG's) doesn't sound as good as the Kramer. The 3 p/u configuration - H/S/S, the coil tap mini switch, and push-pull volume pot turn allow for a variety of sounds, not just shredding. If you can have only one guitar, try this axe, I have been won over by it.

Musical Background:

off and on for 30 years

Musical Style:

modern shred.
