Tone, Pure and Simple

Designed by legendary amp-smith Mike Soldano, the JCA20H has been meticulously crafted to deliver optimal warmth and clarity. Try experimenting with volume and gain levels to obtain a varied range of tonal styles. Hit that classic British crunch with all knobs at 12 o'clock or roll back the gain and pump the volume for warm, jazzy cleans. Push the gain to the max and choose your volume for a Van Halen-esque squeal, and maybe futz with the EQ to get that high-gain crunch emblematic of Soldano's classic designs. All low-watt tube heads love pedals and the JCA20H is no exception. The combination of three 12AX7 preamp and two EL84 power tubes will propel your favorite stompboxes to greater heights with a fullness only an all-tube signal path can create.

Features:

- A set of classic 12AX7 (x3) preamp and EL84 (x2) power tubes for full all-tube tone.
- Preamp, Bass, Middle, Treble, Master, and Presence controls for optimal control and read more unhindered tone.
-Multi-ply, void-free hardwood cabinetry with a 16 gauge, cold-rolled steel chassis for a durable head.
-20 watt tube power into a 16 ohm or 2x 8 ohm outputs for use with any number of cabinets.
-Designed by legendary engineer Mike Soldano for untouched clarity and presence.

Like many low-watt heads on today's market, the JCA20H offers a simple and straightforward set of controls with no extraneous gizmos or gimmicks getting in the way. Whether your pumping the gain for a crunchy lead or dialing back for smooth jazzy cleans, the JCA20H is a versatile tone box with no shortage of character and style.

Sound
this amp has a VERY british tone. i mainly play a les paul with emgs, and i'm hooked up to a peavey 4x12 cabinet. plugged straight into the amp i can get anywhere from an early eric clapton kind of sound to an ac/dc sound. with the active pickups, there is no clean sound, but with passive pickups and the guitar's volume knob rolled back, it's not too bad. with the amp's gain maxed out, it has a good classic rock crunch, but definitely not metal. but it takes pedals well and doesn't need much help to get there. if you want a more american, scooped high gain sound, you'll need an eq pedal. but this amp is made for a classic, british blues sound, and that's where it shines. killer tone.
Features
this is as bare bones as it gets. one channel, no effects. but that also means there's nothing robbing the tone.
Ease of Use
you have 6 knobs: gain, low, mid, high, volume, and presence. i think even somebody that's never used an amp before can figure it out.
Quality
all the quality is in the tone. to keep the cost down, it's not built with high quality parts. but it is put together well, and seems pretty solid. time will tell, but i'll be surprised if i don't have problems with knobs when i get some miles on it.
Value
to get a 20w tube amp with this kind of tone for this price is a steal. i would have considered it at $500. at $250, i couldn't say no.
