From Our Catalog
For over 15 years, the RG series has been the undisputed standard in guitars for the hard rock player. The RGT42's mahogany body provides rich warm lows and sweet sustain. Its 24 jumbo frets offer easy playing for leads and chording. The Infinity 1 neck pickup is a versatile and responsive ceramic magnet humbucker with warm classic tone and added output. The Infinity 2 bridge pickup offers enhanced midrange output and excellent dynamics. It uses an Alnico-5 magnet for string clarity.

Ibanez RGT42DXFM Customer Review
Feature:
There's not really any missing features. The pickup selection is more than I'll ever need. Neckthrough is great. Mahogany body. An ebony fretboard would be nice but not in this price range.

Quality:
I don't expect the quality to be bleeding edge on a lower priced guitar. Originally I looked at the RGT42 series over a year ago before I bought my JEM Jr. and found the quality to be lacking. The binding wasn't great and the neck wasn't that smooth. The latest version has much improved quality. There are few areas that could be improved. The bridge is ok. The tremelo bar is really skimpy. A couple screws are not quite perfectly straight.

Value:
The value of this guitar is high. The quality of workmanship is higher than expected and it just plays nice. Having a mahogany body and neckthrough make this guitar (to some poeple) more valuable than the lower end prestige models.

Desirability:
The Prestige models seem to be more directed at an older crowd in their looks (probably due to the price). I've been waiting for shark tooth inlays to come back in style for a while now and here they are. Now more than just the RG250DX have them. The finish on the guitar is really nice. Flat transparent. It looks black with little light, purplish with a bit more light, and more blue/lavendar (like it's supposed to be) in daylight.

Sound:
This guitar sounds great. A lot better than my JEM 555 with the exception of the pickups. The pickups sound great for single strings and the guitar's sustain is amazing but power chords sound a little muddy and not well defined (more noticeable when recording). I've returned my JEM Jr to stock Dimarzio's and removed the EMG which will go into this guitar.

Ease of Use:
Excellent to play. Very nice action. The looks caught my eye right away but the guitar plays great which is why I bought it.

Support:
I've never dealt with Ibanez customer support.

Overall:
I think I'll be happy with this guitar for a while. If something happened to it down the road I would get another (unless something better came along). I will probably end up replacing both pickups and the bridge in the future (after I sell my JEM jr).

"Awesome Guitar, Awesome Price!!!"
Feature:
I love the finish and the neck-through construction. I love the fact that the finish extends from the body to the neck, and the headstock. The edge II trem system is very smooth as well.

Quality:
Exquisite quality. I also have an American custom shop Ibanez S Series, and the RGT42 plays just as good for 1/5 of the price.

Value:
Excellent value. The $525.00 that I paid at the retailer was well worth the price.

Desirability:
I might have to leave my fiance for this guitar! I have been spending more time with the guitar than with her.

Sound:
The sound is good overall, but I am going to replace the stock pickups with Dimarzios to better fit my tastes.

Support:
I have never had a problem with any of my Ibanez guitars.

Overall:
This guitar initially caught my eye because of the transparent lavendar flame maple finish. Once I played the guitar, I knew I had to have it. This is the type of guitar that makes you want to do nothing else but play all day.
