Designing the Hartke VX3500 was a bit of a no-brainer. You just take Hartke's best selling head, the 3500, and mate it to the incredible sounding Hartke VX410 cabinet and Bang! Instantly you have an awesome combination of power and sound AND the best value in bass combos. Why That's because the Hartke VX3500 is NOT just a combo. It's a no-compromise way to buy the absolute best in bass equipment in one great sounding package.

The Amplifier

The 3500 mono amp delivers 350 watts into 4 ohms. It has independent tube and solid-state preamps that can be used separately or together. Comprehensive sound shaping is provided by bass and treble contour controls and a 10-band graphic EQ. It's equipped with adjustable compression to add the precise amount of sustain and presence to the overall sound.

The Cabinet

The new VX 'Very Extreme' 410 bass reflex cabinet was designed for bassists who demand excellent tone but prefer traditional paper cone drivers. This warm, punchy enclosure features proprietary drivers with specially treated cones, impregnated fabric surrounds, matched convex dust caps all mounted in heavy steel frames. The high efficiency low moving mass design allows for maximum output and plenty of headroom throughout the full range of the driver. Rounding out the tone, the cabinet has a proprietary design horn loaded high frequency transducer.

"a great sounding but hernia inducing beast of an amp"

Sound: i use it with a musicman stingray. great sound and very versatile with the 10 band EQ. Theres not a great deal of difference in sound between the valve preamp and the solid state though the depth of the cab usually means im trying to cut low end rather than boost it, an extremely bassy amp, but it cuts through too. you can hear the compressor working and it tends to work as a corrective limiter rather than creative compressor, not brilliant Feature: a built in tuner would have been nice, as would more control of the compressor. Ease of Use: i love the amp and its a breeze to setup and use. its top heavy though, try and carry it up/down stairs using the side handles and it tends to try roll upside down, a massive design fault in my opinion. the amp is ridiculously heavy too, a real beast to load in and out of vans onto stages etc. you always needs two people to carry, and the castors are flimsy over anything other than smooth carpet. Quality: it gets carried around in a van with the rest of the bands gear, a couple of the eq sliders are bent but more due to carelessness when carrying. its blown fuses in the mains lead a couple of times at rehearsals for no apparent reason, it did this the first time i ever turned it on. never done it at a gig yet and i carry a spare mains lead just in case. the hartke logo on the front of the cab has been glued on slanted, not a big deal but its the finishing touches that matter Value: better sounding than the ashdown amp i tried, but not as good as the ampeg which i couldnt afford. Manufacturer Support: not needed yet. The Wow Factor: looks and sounds great. a very sexy looking amp that inspires you to want to plug in and play it. Overall: its the weight thing, a hernia inducing amp and probably the heaviest amp i have ever owned in 20 years of gigging (apart from the dreaded valve matamp) im going to sell and buy the same kit but as a separate amp and cab. it needs two to carry it and thats not always practical/possible.

Sound: Easy to find your sound on this amp head. Feature: i love the fact that you can turn the eq on or off, blend the tube or solid state preamp. Ease of Use: plug in your bass and jam away Quality: it would get a 10 if it were not for the fact that a screw came loose inside and shorted out the tube side of the preamp, so i have to run solid state all the time. Value: you get more than what you pay for thats for sure. Manufacturer Support: i have to send my amp 3 hours away for repair, its cheaper to drive it out there myself then to have it shipped over there, been procrastinating myself tho. The Wow Factor: the casters make it easy to move around which is what i needed, its was louder then all the other amps that were there when we would jam, my brother could hear it clearly a block away at the fire station we work at. Overall: a great great buy, i understand that mine came with a loose screw or something, but the warranty covers that, just a hassle to ship the entire amp instead of just the head.
