Hartke HSB550 Bass Strings (Medium 5-String)

No longer available at zZounds
Rugged, responsive, and reasonably priced, the HSB550 Bass Strings from Hartke deliver the quality you expect and the playability you need.

Bass players will get nothing less than what they would expect from a Hartke product: Reliability, consistency, and ultra-fast transient response for a brighter, richer, more defined tone. The Hartke Bass Strings come in 12 configurations, including 4 and 5-string sets of XLight, Light, and Medium, available in single and 3-packs. They are long scale, nickel-wound, hex-core strings, with color-coded beads for easy identification. These medium-gauge strings offer great sound across the frequency range, and with a B string included, this set is fantastic for heavy rock and metal (though it sounds good with just about any genre.)

Gauges: 50, 70, 85, 105, 135

"The best three-fer deal around on bass strings. If you can't make these strings sound good, check your amp settings. There"

This is a good basic choice in a round wound bass string. Any competent player can make them work.
Sound
These strings are perfectly competent strings, with their own particular dynamics. They start very bright, settle down nicely in about a week, and last a long time. They have been very consistent for me in this manner.
Features
The best feature is the low price on the three-pack price. These are fine strings for the money. I've seen some cheap strings; these aren't at all what you could normally expect at this price point. There is no status to be had in overpaying.
Ease of Use
If you like a bright, cutting, yet airy tone, this string gets it. I even like the somewhat rough texture they have when they're new. It doesn't bother me a lick.
Quality
I haven't seen a problem yet, and I've been looking.
Value
I play these things everywhere, and my tone is generally recognized as distinctive and good. The three-fer deal on these is exceptional.
Manufacturer Support
These strings are almost cheap enough to throw away after every use. What more support is required/
The Wow Factor
Strings have zero sex appeal for me. Strings are tools. I don't go for the hype.
