Knobs for Sustain and Level. Switch for Direct On/Off.

Typically thought of as a "second string" pedal, a Compressor's creative capabilities are often overlooked due to pedalboard space constraints or the subtlety of the effect. The Guyatone ST-2 Compressor/Sustainer puts all these arguments to rest, offering extreme amounts of compression in an incredibly compact stompbox format.

The ST-2's variable Level and Sustain controls allow you to dramatically "squash" the input signal, yielding smooth, clean bell-like notes that last for days. In addition, the ST-2 features a direct on/off switch. When engaged, the direct switch blends in a dry input signal at equal volume with the compressed signal, eliminating the attack-altering characteristics common to other compressors.

By manipulating these 3 controls, the ST-2 can be used for a wide variety of applications. With the Sustain control set at maximum, the ultimate "chicken pickin" guitar tone can be attained. With Sustain at minimum and the Level control above 12 o'clock the ST-2 can be used as a clean booster, perfect for overdriving the front end of an amp. Varying the Sustain and Level controls further will yield everything from subtle compression to signal limiting to note attack-altering effects similar to the SV-2! The ST-2's full-frequency response makes it ideal for use with any instrument including Guitar, Bass and Keyboards.

When big compressors don't offer enough, try the ST-2 on for size!

Guyatone ST2 Compressor Customer Review

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Does the job. No flaws that I can tell.

Sound
Excellent. Seems very transparent. My Strat gets a real twang/snap thing happening. With Sustain set high on the clean channel, it makes the clicky sound. My Les Paul sustains for days on medium gain with this pedal. Best of all, my Ibanez accoustic with pre-amp doesn't hurt my ears anymore when I hit it hard into my Laney LC50-II tube amp - it evens out the loud and soft notes nicely. Not noisy at all. This pedal doesn't seem to add any noise to the mix whatsoever. On my strat when on single coil with high gain on my amp, it simply amplifies the noise that is *already there* - so the compressor is just doing it's job. The more the Sustain knob goes higher than 12 o'clock, the more any existing noise is amplified (only a nuisance if using a single coil with high gain distortion and the Sustain is set too high). The further below 12 o'clock, the single-coil noise is actually reduced - less noise than without the pedal!!!! For reference, at 12 o'clock on the Sustain, the single-coil noise through the unit is the same level as when the pedal is turned off or unplugged. I have finally found the compression I require for playing Joe Satriani's "Midnight" with this pedal! I also tried using this pedal as a clean boost to my drive Laney's pre-amp valves, and liked it better than my Ibanez TS-7 Tubescreamer. Completely clean boost without messing with your EQ or fuzzing it up.

Simple unit, but that's all it needs. 2 knobs, level and sustain. One switch to optionally enable mix of dry signal with the compressed signal.

Quality
Too early to tell how long it will last - haven't had it long. It seems solid enough. The switch is standard issue, and more rugged than my old Ibanez TS-7's switch. I don't much care for the rubber seal thing around the outside, as it may stretch and fall off later on.

Value
Great value! I'm stoked with it! So much bang for your buck. Much better value for money than the Boss CS-3, MXR Dynacomp and the Marshall Ed The Compressor.

Manufacturer Support
Never contacted them, but their website is pretty cool. It has sound samples of most of their pedals.

The Wow Factor
Tiny and curious wee gadget. Smallest pedal I've ever owned!

Musical Style:
Hard rock, Country
