A friend of mine let me borrow his 1968 Guild D212M 12 string (US made) before I purchased this Guild D 125 12 (made in China). The only things these two guitars have in common is they look alike and they have 12 strings....that's about it. Their feel and sound are completely different. The 1968 D212 has a very dark and rich sound. The new D 125 12 has a much brighter sound, the guitar is lighter in weight and the neck is easier to play. I was planning on monkeying around with diffident string and bridge pins...one small problem....the action is ...well...perfect rihgt out of the box. How did that happen? As matter of fact, it's action is better than my Taylor 415! I might mess with it in the future after I break a few little g strings. The neck on this Chinese made Guild is excellent. Like the US build this Chinese build has a double truss rod. Another difference is the US build adjusts it truss rod thru the head and the Chinese adjusts thru the sound hole. The double truss rod feature is what made Guild a really great 12 string because it makes the neck stronger. Over time most 12 string will warp around the 5 fret or the bridge will pull out...or both. This guitar is so nice. It's caused me to reconsider the whole Guild guitar line. For the money, you really can't beat this 12 string. It's solid wood and comes with a nice case. The only complaint I almost have is...Guild pick guards are ugly...but that makes it a Guild. Buy this guitar while you still can...the read more old Guilds are almost gone!
