What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Mahogany body Rich, warm, focused sound; added sustain
Gibson '57 Classic humbucking pickups Vintage PAF feel; warmth, depth and distinct edge
SG slim profile neck Fast playing across the whole neck
Rosewood fretboard Open, warm tone and smooth playing feel

The Gibson 2013 SG Standard electric guitar looks and sounds as devilish as always. Ever since Gibson first released the SG design in 1961, players have appreciated its light, fast playing both onstage and in the studio. The 2013 SG Standard comes with two switchable Gibson '57 Classic pickups onboard, to deliver all the classic tones that have made this instrument a legend.

Slender-Necked Beauty

The neck on the Gibson 2013 SG Standard adopts the slim-profile design that emerged in the later 1960s. This makes the neck notably slimmer than the rounded shape found on the 50s-era instruments. Staying true to the original 1961 SG design, nine trapezoidal inlays accent the bound rosewood fretboard. The headstock is finished to match the body. A mother-of-pearl Gibson logo inlaid at the center of the headstock stamps this instrument with a pedigree of peerless quality.

Solid Design for Tight Tone

The 24.75-inch-scale mahogany neck is glued in a deep-set, long-tenon neck/body joint with a 17-degree back-angled headstock. The body and neck are balanced to achieve perfect cross-transference of resonance where they meet at the 19th fret, sealed with Franklin Titebond 50 glue -- one of the strongest industrial wood glues in the world. A 1-11/16" wide Corian nut completes the equation. This solid neck-to-body jointing and precise alignment is something that you can distinctly feel as you play the 2013 SG Standard. "SG" stands for Solid Guitar, and its responsive action that you read more feel in your hands is why this instrument has a reputation for such playability -- musicians don't love it just for those cool little bat wings on top.

Classic Electronics With Subtle Updates

The Gibson 2013 SG Standard comes stacked with a pair of Gibson '57 Classic pickups -- a recreation of Gibson's famous PAF humbucker of the late 1950s. With the three-way toggle switch and Tone and Volume knobs on each pickup, you can dial up everything from cool, clean blues tones to thrashing power chords. The stopbar tailpiece is matched perfectly with one of Gibson's legendary Tune-o-matic bridges, yielding maximal sustain and a distinctive singing tone. The ivory-colored tuning knobs display vintage styling through and through. A black hardshell case is included.

I don't care what anyone says, Gibson still makes excellent guitars. I got one of these in Cherry and it's completely exceeded my expectations. After a string change and slight truss rod and bridge adjustments to adapt to heavier strings, this thing ROCKS. Playability is superb, the neck shape is perfect for me, and it's a tone monster. I couldn't be happier.
